Placenta Previa

I had my anatomy scan yesterday, very grateful things are all looking good with baby girl.  But they discovered I have an anterior placenta previa with a posterior placenta lobe.  Basically, a whole lot of placenta lol.  I'm a FTM so I'm wondering if anyone has had a placenta previa before?  It sounds pretty straightforward - I understand the placenta is blocking the cervix and so it will mean a scheduled C-section unless the placenta moves off my cervix as my uterus grows (which the doctor said is common actually - so fingers crossed).  Does anyone have any experience with this?

*if I shouldn't have created a new discussion for this or there's a better place to discuss this, please lmk!  Thx.

Re: Placenta Previa

  • @shoarmie99 I had placenta previa with my first. I had no idea until a scary bleed at around 15 weeks where apparently the baby kicked the placenta, which I was then told could happen. Thankfully that was the worst of it. Otherwise, my placenta didn't move and it was just a scheduled c-section at 37 weeks. My OB said with previa he schedules c-sections no later than that so the body doesn't go into labor on its own.

  • @Tulips29 Thank you - I've been told to look out for any bleeding.  I need to find out if I need to be less active or anything like that (not like I'm extremely active lol).  That's interesting to know you were scheduled for a c-section at 37 weeks - it's crazy to think I could meet this baby that much sooner!  Wow.  Hope you're having a good start to your week!
  • I wasn't super super active either, but I don't recall being too limited. I didn't do any high impact activities, but I still went on walks and short non-strenuous hikes. But definitely good to ask your OB. This was also 5.5 years ago, but he put me on bed rest my last month prior to delivery, but I know bed rest has not been recommended much in recent years. Yes, it's exciting to think you can meet the baby a few weeks early!

  • I had this with my 1st! Made me a little nervous i honestly but my OB said that usually for most it corrects itself as you grow. Thankfully mine did & i had a normal delivery without complications. Your next scan might simply show a correction also🙂. fingers crossed!
