1st Trimester

Food cravings and aversions?

While I didn't have food cravings during the first trimester, I did have a food aversion.
My boyfriend and I made sloppy joes, and within 2 bites, something was definitely not tasting right to me. I tried to eat more, and had to spit it out.
To me, I may as well have been eating worms as that is what it was to me. Nothing about the smell while cooking, and nothing was wrong to him. But I just could not stomach it.
Months later, we tried to cook sloppy joes again. I did enjoy them pre-pregnancy and was missing them. Within the first couple bites yet again, it tasted like rusty pennies (ie. blood) to me. I tried to push through and tell my brain to enjoy the meal but, nope, not happening.

We figure since I eat all ingredients in other meals that it must be either the spice packets or, most likely, the tomato paste, no matter the brand.

Have you had any food cravings or food aversions?

Re: Food cravings and aversions?

  • I had a multitude of them throughout pregnancy. Coffee, ranch dressing, salmon… just to name a few. And so far we are 2 for 2 of my son hating those foods. 🤷🏼‍♀️

  • No specific cravings but my severe nausea really kicked me in the butt. It has also been hard to just enjoy food so I was really worried about getting the right nutrients in and eating enough for the baby so I wasn’t so nauseous. Sometimes it feels like a double edged sword since you need to eat but have no appetite from throwing up throughout the day. Thankful for nausea pills 🙏
  • For me, in between week  6 and week 11 (I am in week11) - I have to eat every 2-3hrs even if I take a bit heavy meal. Also, my tummy/stomach pain starts and to calm down i hv to eat abit heavy small snacks does not work. I dont hv twins, and OBG (Dr.) told me just to do what your body says. I feel i am eating too much in 1st trim.
not to mention nausea feeling make me tired.
  • I've been craving pickles and cheese this entire pregnancy. I feel like such a stereotype.
  • I can't stand chocolate, i usually love chocolate so soo much but now i cant eat a tiny bit. It started when i smelled the nutella while making a sandwich for my husband, the smell was off then i tried abit of the spoon, i had to spit it it was so weird!
  • Yep, Chocolate is mine, too. I normally love chocolate and can't get enough of it, but now just the thought of it makes me want to gag. I'm not that far along, but eating already has become a challenge of trying to think of one thing that does not make me feel nauseated. Macaroni and cheese has been my go-to lately.
  • Along with some of the ladies above, I have been off chocolate more now than ever.
I found early pregnancy I could still eat it, but around 2nd trimester and now at 32 weeks, the indigestion/heartburn becomes so bad after chocolate that it makes it impossible to desire any.
Also with me, mac and cheese has been such a craving! I did make homemade mac and cheese for around 3 days straight last month. But I try not to because I know how much weight can be gained keeping that up. But oh how it stays on my mind!!
Like when I opened this post, I stupidly tried chili. My SO made it, he really makes good chili before pregnancy and I loved the smell, loved the taste before all this. Tried a couple of bites and could not.
Anything with tomato paste or something is just out. I keep trying every here and there, but with how tomato is with heartburn, and ..I just miss taste of things I did enjoy.
Once the baby comes, I think it is chili and sloppy joes and chocolate all the way!!!!
(Although somewhere I heard one shouldn't eat chocolate if breast feeding, but I haven't looked into that yet).

Pickles and cheese has always been a favorite snack of mine. Really anything crunchy with cheese (cukes, carrots, apples). I still eat it but it’s nothing new to me lol. I have no appetite so it’s one of the things I still love.
  • I have this with just about everything
