High hcg

So I had a miscarriage a couple months ago, and got pregnant again before my next period. Basically I can only guess that I’m 6 weeks. I went to my doctor a few days ago for a blood test, and they called last night leaving a message that I am definitely pregnant and have a high hcg level so they want me to come in next week. What can a high hcg level at about 6 weeks mean? I’m kinda annoyed with myself for missing the call so I could have asked them, but I figured I’d ask here so I don’t have to wait thinking this whole long weekend about what it could mean.

My hcg was pretty high with this baby so I spent an enormous amount of time researching why. It could mean you’re farther along than you think, it could indicate an issue like a molar pregnancy or chromosomal issue, I’ve read a few studies that high hcg could indicate a girl, there’s a small chance it could indicate multiples (although the jury is really still out on that as not all multiple pregnancies have high hcg), or it could literally mean nothing. The ranges for hcg are huge especially at 6+ weeks, so one number doesn’t really matter but more the trend. So they should do at least 2 draws around 48hrs apart.

@kelz621 It could also mean that your HCG from previous PG/MC never dropped down to 0, and so you could be showing HCG from the previous PG if it was not all completely 100% expelled. This is why they tell you to not try for PG before your first AF after MC.

Your HCG has to be quite low for your body to be *able* to ovulate. The reason doctors recommend waiting until after your first period is for dating purposes--it's hard for them to know when you ovulated without the reference point of a new cycle. Aside from the fact that it's harder to date the pregnancy, there is no need to wait after an early miscarriage.

*sigh* Yes. But it's also possible that your HCG level never goes DOWN to 0, that then people who do not BBT start BD again and then test because they don't get their AF back right away, and see a positive test and are all like "YAY I'm PG again!" when it's still HCG from the LAST PG that never actually went away. Cause depending on how far along you are and how your body reacts, it can take some people/PGs MONTHS to drop down to that 0... So they aren't PG at all with a new baby, because they never ovulated, because it's still old HCG. I have seen this happen multiple times over the past 7 years... Trust me... I'm like an early MC expert, having had 5 of them myself.
