Cabergoline for milk suppression

Hi all,
I need to wean my 3 month old and want to do it quickly. I have oversupply/clogged ducts and currently have mastitis. I am very over it. I did my best, but I won't suffer anymore. My doctor said I could try carbergoline. It seems there could be some side effects, but supposed to work quickly. Anybody had any experience?

I am sorry you are struggling. Have you been feeding frequently? Some of those difficulties can be overcome with the right support.... I don't have experience with cabergoline, but I did find this Cabergoline is used to treat hyperprolactinemia (high levels of prolactin, a natural substance that helps breast-feeding women produce milk but can cause symptoms such as infertility, sexual problems, and bone loss in women who are not breast-feeding or men). Cabergoline is in a class of medications called dopamine receptor agonists. @linnys-ibclc thank you! I will take any support I can get. I am a scientist and am very surprised that most of these methods (Sudafed, Benadryl, sage, cabbage leaves) don't have a lot of numbers or data supporting them. I am deathly afraid of the drying up process due to the constant pain of oversupply and clogged ducts... I can only imagine what cutting out feedings will cause. I have tried several things for oversupply including block feeding, Cabocreme, and sage tea and don't see much success with any of them. I know it is not popular to stop breastfeeding, but those that have decided to quit for their sanity/well-being need support too.

yes of course you need assistance. Breast milk is the gold standard for babies because of the many benefits. It totally is your decision.

Here is an herbal tea at target called no more milk. blocked ducts can be unclogged by a baby's suck. you can try different positions. Making sure the latch is good is important. If you have pumping equipment you could use it to help relieve some of the pressure. I have heard that cool cabbage leaves can help by placing inside the bra. LMK if you want my contact info.
