Monday Bitchfest 12/20

Tis the season for bitching and moaning.

Re: Monday Bitchfest 12/20

  • Anyone else just want the holidays to be overwith? I haven’t found any of it fun for a few years. Just stressful.

  • I'm so tired of not being able to enjoy normal things these days due to covid. I'm so paranoid of catching covid, passing it to the kids, etc that I can't even enjoy life it seems. Even a simple dinner out, away from people, makes me paranoid after.

@furmama2babymama I hear you, but I'm trying to enjoy the holidays as much as possible. It is stressful, add being pregnant and I have no energy for much holiday festivities.

  • @furmama2babymama I both do and don’t want the holidays to be over. I’m disappointed at how little I’ve done this year because I usually make a point of doing all the things. Kinda just want to call it for the year and say I’ll try harder next time, but I have no idea what Christmas will look like with a kid.
@Tulips29 I feel for you. I think I would’ve lost my mind a long time ago if I had kids through all this. Hopefully this next wave passes quickly.
  • @Tulips29 I’m feeling exactly the same way. DH and I went out to dinner once over the summer when we were vaccinated and it looked like things were getting back to some level of normal and I still had anxiety about it.  Self care and hobbies feel impossible.
  • @KFrob that's how I've been feeling since this weekend. We went out with some friends, all vaxxed/boosted, sat away from people, etc...and I've legit had a pit in my throat since Sunday night. The anxiety is on level 10. I woke up 4 times throughout the night last night trying to think "do I have a sore throat....am I feeling out of breath...am I feeling anything at all..." It's seriously too much for one's mental health. I decided to move my booster from Sunday to tomorrow thinking 1 day shy of 2nd tri won't  make a difference and I'll just feel more protected a few days earlier for my own sanity.

  • @Tulips29 sorry you’re feeling that way, the anxiety is so awful.  I ended up doing my booster one day before 14w also! I figured better to be safe over the holidays. I can’t wait until the vaccine is available to the little kids. It will be such a relief to not have to worry about unknowingly giving it to them.
  • @Tulips29 and @KFrob Same, I think I mentioned this in the other thread but my anxiety about rising cases overtook my initial desire to get out of first trimester. We had three people test positive in a weekend at work (mind you we’re only about a 35 person team, less if you factor in they were all on day shift) and that was enough for me to pull the trigger. I think we’re not too far off from vaccines for under 5! My 2 year old niece is in one of the trials, so rest assured things are happening!
  • @pinkkillersheep I read that they pushed it back from the beginning of the year to around March. That took the wind out of my sails.  I looked into getting the kids in a trial but there weren’t any active in our area.
  • @pinkkillersheep I hope you weren't effected by the positive cases, that's scary. Our offices are open across the country with no mandatory return to work and I truly don't get it. Only a handful of people are coming in from time to time and we can all work remotely, so why even re-open? 1 office re-opened last week, which is even more confusing. Safer to stay home these days. So cool about your niece being in the trials. I'm always so curious by what's involved with that. Same to what @KFrob said, I saw they pushed the under 5 vax due to not a strong enough immune response to the vaccine?

Do any of you have kids 5+ who are vaxxed? My son is turning 5 soon and while I'm for vaccines, I'm nervous. We have SO many anti-kid vaxxers in our community. They are for all the standard kid vaccines but this one the parents are pushing so hard against and protesting the mandates.

@Tulips29 yes! DD1 is 5. She had her second shot Dec 6th. She did great!  I think she’s had more of a reaction to the MMR vaccine than this one. If you do research on this vax, like real peer reviewed journals, this technology isn’t new. In the past it was too expensive and impractical to use.  Technology caught up and there was a need. That’s how they did it so fast and how they know it’s safe.

  • @Tulips29 My other niece is 5 and handled the shots like a champ. Also, I work in manufacturing so we don’t have a remote option and haven’t through the whole pandemic. It’s created a pretty significant divide between us and the “corporate” people. I could probably fill every bitchfest post about it lol.
  • I'm getting my booster tomorrow, finally. I wanted to wait to get the maternal fetal medicine specialist to say it was a-ok to get. Too bad I'll probably feel gross on Christmas eve, but I'd rather be boosted sooner than later.
Though I have no symptoms I've been pretty terrified of COVID since omicron hit. I wasn't able to get any at-home tests from any drugstores or the health department without standing in not socially distant lines, so I'm just hoping that I'm not making a huge mistake by hanging out with my family. I've got a nephew and of course my firstborn yet unvaxxed.

DH says that I'm making Christmas un-fun by worrying about it. I've pretty much accepted the reality that Christmas isn't meant to be fun for adults.
  • @mauvelousone this was me yesterday. I had my booster appointment and tried to get a rapid test somewhere just in case even though I have no symptoms, and they are not available anywhere. The rapid testing line by us was 3 hours long. We got a PCR test instead. I'm also terrified with unvaxxed kids at home and vaxxed people around us catching it left and right. Hope you don't feel crummy afterwards! Drink lots of water.
