Let's chat about the holidays! What do you celebrate? Do you celebrate at home? Do you decorate alot, a little , or not at all? What is your favorite part of the holiday? Tell me everything!
Hi!! I love the holiday season. I celebrate Christmas. I usually work on new years day. I love to decorate. I spend way to much money on holiday decorations for every holiday. I love to go look at Christmas lights. I love to give gifts. I like finding things for people I think they will like.
I also celebrate Christmas and love the whole season. (I also love Halloween, though, so I don't start Christmas early because I feel like we need more time to savor Halloween.)
My favorite part of the Christmas season is definitely the music. We get out the tunes the day after Thanksgiving. We listen to Christmas music at home, in the car on the radio, and we also play the piano and sing together like it's the 1940s or we're the Von Trapp family or something super corny like that, but it's fun and the kids love it.
I like the religious aspect of Christmas, and we do advent with the wreath and usually make it to church 3/4 Sundays and on Christmas morning. (Tradition is the kids wake up before 6, we open presents, have breakfast, get ready for our day, and play with toys, so they're actually ready for mass at 10:30. Then after church my parents and brothers come over for Christmas brunch and movies.) We like reading the Jesus books and a few years ago I made a nativity out of Legos and there's a piece to build in each door of the advent calendar.
New since last year, my three year old is obsessed with Santa (we also have a six year old and Santa has been a presence in our life for quite awhile), but starting when he was two, this boy just LOVES Santa and everything to do with him, the reindeer, the beard, the hat, and he plays Santa all the time, so I love doing all the Santa stuff because he gets so into it. We went to the tree-lighting in our downtown and saw Santa there, who had a real beard, so my kids are convinced we got the real one. Friday is Christmas Fair at the kids' school and the preschoolers traditionally don't go, but I'm in charge of it and I convinced the preschool teacher to bring her class up during a break to see Santa, and every morning this week my son has asked me if today is Christmas Fair. He also loves the Elf Pets movies and, though I never saw myself as someone who would get an Elf on the Shelf (and I'm trying really hard not to), we now on several Elf Pets. I love doing all this Santa stuff with him!
We celebrate Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. The best is Christmas, of course, because I love giving gifts, too. We aren't really religious, but my parents are so we might go to church with them. We go see the lights and do other little holiday related things around town. We have live reindeers come with Santa, and a giant ice palace a few towns away, and ice caves. It's very cold and snowy here so it's hard to doing outdoor things, but we try. We don't have very many traditions, which is kind of sad. We just like spending time together.
This weekend we are visiting my parents (3 hrs away) because their city has a lot of holiday activities they want to take my oldest daughter (8) to and they close down after this weekend. Then I hurry back home Tuesday morning and stress clean everything before they come here with my sister for Christmas. It's gonna be hectic. I should clean NOW but I have zero motivation.
