3rd Trimester

Is my baby having a party in there?! Rapid "shudders"?

I am 38 and week 28 with my first.
Sometimes, it feels like I have no kicks, punches or any movements. But then after some time of rest--it feels like shudders and flailing legs of kicks and like my baby is trying to escape.
The "shudders" scare me though because it feels like a very rapid movement as if my baby is having a seizure.
Has anyone else felt such a rapid quick succession of movements?
I know baby's nervous system is still developing, so I try to attribute that feeling to that.
But it sure feels like tuckered out where I feel nothing for a long while (seems few hours) and then a PARTY!!

Side note: I'm bringing these sensations up with my obstrician tomorrow. I did go to the hospital to check on baby 2 weeks ago after almost 3 days of "no" movement as I am new to the sensations.
Turns out baby was on his back and so all that movement was mostly directed upwards. Everything was fine, but when he changed positions is when I began to feel the "rapid shudders". When I looked it up, it reads as a somewhat common occurrence.
Wondering what other people have experienced :)

    Completely normal.

  • I’m glad you’re bringing it up with your doctor because that would have been my advice. Perhaps it’s hiccups?

    Thank you for your replies.
The obstrician said it is most likely reflexes. The shudders feel too rapid to be hiccups. It feels like as quick movement as when a cat scratches its neck, shockingly quick, and only last a couple seconds.
Which would make sense for developing reflexes I suppose. It is a very odd sensation to feel as I have been expecting regular feeling kicks/stretches/jabs/punches, and have never heard of the rapid shudder movement until I felt it at times and looked it up.
