Real Talk: Raising Black Children

Hi Everyone! I'm excited to get the conversation about raising Black children.

It's something that we have to think about, even with our little ones, to ensure that we're creating the right spaces and building networks for them where they feel loved, safe and free to be who they are. I have 3 young Black sons who will one day be Black men. I wrote this article on The Bump - What #BlackBoyJoy is all About.

    One thing I'm always thinking about, and would love more advice on is how to correctly advocate for myself and my boys when I'm in the presence of medical professionals. Especially since my boys are also multi-racial - I'm often mistaken for their Nanny, and not their mother. We spent tons of time in the Nicu so that team knows me quite well! But when we are in the presence of other professionals I find myself running through a list of things to do in order to Look and Feel more like the adult in the room and SHOW everyone else that I AM their mother, and qualified to make important decisions. #blackboyjoy #newmomoftwins
