@kgg2241 bahaha I love that, as a FTM I remember seeing that and thinking not me 🤣 oh this is so me now. Right now the room is just filled with all DS’s old baby stuff, I guess I’ll get around to doing something eventually
This meme is 100% me. We are not ever sure WHERE this baby will be sleeping lol. We have a bedroom available, but its upstairs from me and mh, and I'm nervous to put dd (3yo) there with the steps but also want to be able to hear the baby. tbh i might put the baby in a big closet for the time being.
We didn't really have a nursery with either of our girls...just a crib in the spare bedroom which then became my bedroom that I still share with DD2. Instead we splurged on a super cool big kid room for DD1 and hopefully when we get into our house we can do the same for DD2 and this new babe when they're old enough. I did FINALLY buy myself a rocking chair though so at least I'll be able to rock DD2 and baby at night instead of carrying them around the house half the night...
Oh yes, that meme is us too 😂. We went pretty big for DD's nursery because my friend is an interior designer and offered to help. We have a super small house though, so this baby and DD will eventually have to share. Until then the baby will be in our room. I'm actually having a bunch of anxiety about them sharing since it seems like sleep will be harder for both of them. I also have no idea how the new baby will even fit in DD's room. I refuse to get rid of the rocking chair 😭.
Here are a few pics of DD's room. I still love it.
Our plan will be for baby girl to be in our room for the first 6ish months and then, if she’s not an awful sleeper, we will hopefully move her in to share with DS. Like @morgantu, we have a split level so 2 BD on the main floor and 2 BD upstairs. It’ll be a great house for a four person family in like 5-6 years. 😂 Until then…yikes. DS will only be 20 months when baby arrives so I don’t see us moving him upstairs for another couple years. If baby girl ends up being a bad sleeper and we don’t want to mess DS up, we will move her upstairs, I guess?
Our little one will be in our bedroom, and just one wall + nursery furniture will be dinosaur themed. We do have an extra bedroom but we currently live with my parents (separate areas, only kitchen & laundry are shared) and it would mean they would be up in their part of the house. We plan to just have them in our room until we move out and into our own place.
@kgg2241 RIGHT???? I ordered one and it initially said around 15 weeks for delivery...then I found one in the quick ship section that will only take 3 weeks. It won't really match the rest of our furniture, but we'll probably be at my parents house for a few more years so I don't think it matters. Plus I can barely walk as it is....
AND DD2 was in the room with DD1 and I right from day 1. I was worried one of them would end up having trouble sleeping but they both just slept through the other person's noise. I was shocked at how well it actually worked. #3 will be in with me and DD2 so I'm hoping it works just as well this time around...
Also on team “not sure where baby is sleeping yet” would loooove to design a little girl nursery but it would mean giving up our play room which im not really willing to do yet. It is so nice having a designated place for toys that also has a door I can close when I dont want to deal with the mess lol. These are some pictures I’ll be pulling inspo from if we do decide to do the nursery.
I probably won't have a nursery I started co-sleeping with DD5 when she was 1, and before that she was in a crib right next to my bed. I'll probably do the same with this kiddo. But I do want to re-decorate our bedroom, and since we'll be three girls, I have a feeling it will involve lots of pink!
Ignore the books, it’s purposeless to keep them on the bookcase with a toddler.
This is DS’s room, which baby girl will share eventually (not til she’s at least 6 months). My plan is to remove the hanging toy baskets and move the bookcase and put a mini crib against that wall. I’d like to get a new glider, too, because the one we bought squeaks. And I’ll figure out some wall stuff for each of them, maybe move the Bible verse over his crib and have some name decor or “big brother” “little sister” stuff for their respective sides of the room.
So DS1 had two rooms that I had painted for him because we moved when he was 5 months and I was super sad that he only spent a month sleeping in his room. We did an adventure outdoorsy theme because DH and I love camping and hiking. I don’t have photos of his second room, but I also repainted the mountains. But went green this time.
For this kiddo I’m not painting any crazy things again. Cause I hate painting and I did DS room this summer and it’s ginormous so no thanks took me forever. 😂 but I’m hoping to find a cute simple wallpaper. And am going nautical/ocean theme this time. This is the crib we’ll be getting. And I’ll do light gray dresser/changing table and bookshelf. And I’m reusing the light tan recliner from DS1 room. Then adding in lots of dark navy accents! (And I found a cute “poop deck” sign that I for sure will be getting 😂)
We’re moving to a new house soon, and our plan is to just give baby all the stuff from DS’s nursery and then decorate DS’s new room a little more grown up. So instead of decorating a nursery, we’re decorating a room for a preschooler!
@appleblossom8317 We don't do nurseries (mostly because we're still not in our house and won't be for a while still...but I do love nurseries and seeing other peoples') instead we put the money towards big kid rooms when they get older. We just started DD1's room and it's sooooo cool!
@appleblossom8317 DH and I kind of think similarly. While we have a “nursery” we make it so it’ll last a long time and not just for the baby stage. Just never made sense to me to be needing to change things so often!
@appleblossom8317 that sounds great! Our house is a split level, 2 BD on the main floor, 2 BD upstairs. Our plan is to really have two big decorating transitions. First was creating the nursery for DS, which this baby will share for a good while. And then, when we’re ready for the kids to be upstairs, we’ll make the big switch and decorate for them upstairs and bring my office downstairs where the nursery is now. That’s a couple years from now but it’s fun to think of someday giving the kids free reign upstairs (and maybe, just maybe, having the main floor not look like a daycare 24/7).
@rachelredhead Theo was upstairs when we moved. He was 5 months. I was worried at first. But now am 🤷🏻♀️ About it 😂😅 new baby will also be upstairs when he goes to his room (which I’m guessing will be around 4 months again)
@nursejenn5 I don’t have a lot of concern putting the baby upstairs. If she ends up being a crappy sleeper we will definitely put her up there so she doesn’t disturb Truman. I’m more concerned w Truman since he’ll likely transition out of the crib in the next year. Our stairs are gnarly and he’s too short to hold the rail. Once he’s big enough to hold the rail and I feel more confident about him going up/down, I won’t worry about the stairs so much.
@nursejenn5 and @Panaceia We are similar in our nursery thinking. I don't want to majorly redo the room. I'm trying to keep everything very transitional to where it isn't very baby-ish. DH made a comment about how it looks mature, but I doubt the baby will notice or care.
My mother in law, who is surely some sort of angel, has offered to buy us a new crib for this baby. We can’t afford one, so we were banking on transitioning DS to a toddler bed before baby girl needed the crib, but now this gives us an option for things to happen more organically. I was hesitant to accept at first, knowing cribs aren’t cheap, but she genuinely wants to and told me to let her know what crib I’m interested in.
Will let you guys know if it pans out, but I’m genuinely floored atm.
I decorate the nursery for me so it is a space that brings me joy while I am in it! For DD1 I went with a feminine wallpaper that I felt could grow with her. I plan to do the same for DD2. I just went to order the furniture today and it is backordered until late March/early April 😩 I ordered it anyway, but I am really hoping things speed up a bit and it comes earlier than expected….!
Here is my basic vision board for wallpaper and furniture. Furniture is a dark olive green.
@jenis_fan_for_life I feel the same way! My daughter's nursery brings me so much joy. It is my favorite room in our house. Fx your furniture comes sooner than expected!!
@faithmovesmountains my MIL bought our crib! Then transported it from TN to PA. I’m sure she feels good about being able to help, I have a hard time accepting large gifts but I’m getting better! Enjoy the help, you certainly deserve it.
@Nik102 that’s so nice of your MIL! I struggle with this same issue with my MIL. She is super generous and always trying to help, but I feel guilty and have a hard time accepting it. We are fortunate to have MILs trying to help.
Eee! The crib and changer combo my MIL bought us showed up at our apartment today. I literally am so excited. Hopefully DH and I can get it assembled on/ by the weekend…
Re: All things nursery!
Here are a few pics of DD's room. I still love it.
@morgantu if our closet was big enough to put a crib in our closet I totally would!
AND DD2 was in the room with DD1 and I right from day 1. I was worried one of them would end up having trouble sleeping but they both just slept through the other person's noise. @Panaceia that is good to know they mostly slept through each other's noises! That makes me feel a bit better.
We have 2 very small bedrooms, and will hopefully buy a house next summer. So a bassinet in our bedroom will be it.
