Any thoughts about this cycle? Let the FW planning around holidays begin! I become a little less hopeful each cycle that passes, but trying to stay positive especially with all of the distractions with the upcoming holidays.
Any questions? Not today
Rant/Rave? Rave: I went out for a run today after taking a few days off because of a health issue. Rant: I promptly tripped and wiped out in the street, skinning my knee and mortifying a college student that watched me do it.
GTKY: What is a must-have food on your Thanksgiving table (or other holiday meal if you don't celebrate Thanksgiving)? Mashed potatoes! They aren’t even necessarily my favorite food on the Thanksgiving table (although I do like them), but it just doesn’t feel like Thanksgiving without them.
@abjm0325 Good job getting out on the run! Sorry about the fall though- hopefully only your pride was hurt.

Any thoughts about this cycle? Our timing wasn't terrible, but if this cycle didn't work out my next FW should be *right* when my mother comes to visit 😂 Only vaguely awkward....
Any questions? Not today.
Rant/Rave? My rant and rave are the same. An old colleague told me in September about a job that would be coming out soon that he thought I'd be a good fit for. He was in touch with the team who would post it so was planing to keep me in the loop. I have been checking their website occasionally and yesterday when I did, I saw that the job had been posted and the deadline was midnight!! I scrambled to get my application together and my friend, bless him, looked through it at 10:30 pm so I could submit it on time (they never told him they'd posted it). Gah! So, I had a stupendously stressful yesterday but also I'm vaguely excited about applying for a new job. It was a lot.
GTKY: What is a must-have food on your Thanksgiving table (or other holiday meal if you don't celebrate Thanksgiving)? Ooooo, good question. I think for me it has to be apple pie. It just wouldn't be Thanksgiving without it. But back when I hosted I made a chanterelles on toast appetizer that family have continued to serve even without me so that might be a second place. And by appetizer I mean something to eat while we continue cooking to keep the wine from getting us too drunk before dinner 🤣@Paturkey I'm glad you were able to get the application in on time! What kind of job is it?

Month/Cycle? 5/5 and 1/1 AL

Any thoughts about this cycle? Well I'm still waiting for my beta HCG to go down to 0 so I don't think we'll be able to do anything this cycle. Honestly though it's kind of a relief not to be tracking anything ATM.
Any questions? NATM
Rant/Rave? My oldest has been asking for another sibling lately and she has been so sweet about it. I told her that it is harder for mommy to get pregnant and mommy needs help from the doctor and she just hugged me and said whenever I'm able to have another baby she will be happy for me. My youngest has been a little wrecking ball lately though! I don't know if it's just a phase but she has been throwing stuff down the stairs and breaking it, tossing all of the clothes out of her drawers, and spilling stuff all over the floor. Part of me wonders if she's just bored...

@abjm0325 ouch i hope your knees are ok! i know the feeling about thinking a clock is ticking, i did not think we'd be still trying at this point at all. i really thought we'd be in the 2 under 2 club.
@Paturkey ooh fingers crossed for the new job, keep us posted!

Rant/Rave? both? lol i got a new car last night, i love it, something we have been planning for months. but why, oh why is the process of buying a car such a time consuming awful experience?
GTKY: What is a must-have food on your Thanksgiving table (or other holiday meal if you don't celebrate Thanksgiving)? real mashed potatoes, please for the love of god do not do instant!@abjm0325 I’m definitely looking forward to the holiday distractions! Do you do a lot of traveling that impacts timing? I hope your knee is ok!! Sometimes the worst part about falling is the embarrassment of it happening in front of someone.
@paturkey hopefully this cycle is it so your mother coming doesn’t make things awkward!! Ohhh a new job!? I’m glad you were able to get it in on time and best of luck!! 🤞🏼 When would you find out?
@shortstack930 my 3yo has been TERRIBLE lately. Like really horrible, no good, about to leave him on the police station steps bad. I am PRAYING it is just a phase, and you’re definitely not alone! My 1st never ever behaved like this. It’s like any minor inconvenience (like putting his boots on, getting dressed for the day, putting on pajamas, having to stay home when mh leaves, etc.) throws him into a tizzy and one hell of a fit that results in damage to the house or furniture and injuries (to me). And they last like an hour… What is this?!? What are you doing about it? I’ve tried breathing, stretching, distractions, bribes, but he literally refuses it all. I’ve also tried ignoring it, and that kinda worked yesterday, but he was still dead set on doing some damage and I feel like that doesn’t fix the problem??

Any thoughts about this cycle? Remaining positive, but just wto- currently cd13 so it should be in the next few days.
Any questions? I don’t think so. Maybe in my response to @shortstack930 above- how to deal with 3yo fits?
Rant/Rave? Well, it’s a rant y’all. My 5yo was sent home from school because they were on the playground and it was cold. He was running around and it made him cough and then he told the teacher that his throat was dry. The nurse said he had a deep wet cough and sore throat, which he definitely didn’t. And he even said his throat didn’t hurt, he just wanted a drink. This was his second “quarantine”, I took him to the doctor and they said it was allergies- but I would have to get him covid tested to rule it out before they would send in a note saying allergies. I’m so frustrated. He only coughs when he’s jumping around and especially when it’s cold. It’s been going on for months now. This was all like a week and a half ago, I chose not to test him because he wasn’t sick, and just kept him home because even with a note saying he has allergies, they will still send him home for allergy symptoms. Which essentially makes the note useless. I’m so sick of everything being covid.
GTKY: What is a must-have food on your Thanksgiving table (or other holiday meal if you don't celebrate Thanksgiving)?Besides the obvious, I really like fried cabbage. But my family is very polish so this was always a thanksgiving staple growing up. I also like chunky whole berry cranberry chutney.
@Paturkey Just a skinned knee and my pride, so not too bad! It was a pretty spectacular fall though, right into the middle of the street. Glad you were able to get your application in on time!
@shortstack930 I’m glad the mental break is a relief for you right now. My DD talks about being the big sister sometimes and it is always so sweet.
@anniemarie887 Oh gosh, yes. Car buying is the worst! Enjoy your new ride 😊
@paytonpedro We are traveling right after Thanksgiving, so I’m really hoping for an early-to-average O so FW will be done by then. Of course, saying that our loud my body will probably now decide to O like 5 days late. The three-year-old fits are so hard! One of the only things that worked with my DD was timeout in her room. She was told she could come out when she calmed down, and we only went in if she was being destructive and then only to remove the problematic item. I hope the phase is short for you!
@anniemarie887 Woot! Congrats on the new car!! And yes, car buying is the devil's playground. Why is it such a nightmare?!
@paytonpedro thanks! The interviews are next week so I should hear by either end of this week or early next. It's all so fast! For the 3-year-old fits, it's just hard. Do they just need to destroy things? Because you could always go for a Lilo & Stitch thing where you build something with blocks and then let them destroy it. I have pillow fights with my son when he needs to let it out and I also do a commentary of him beating the sh*t out of his bunk bed ladder with a pillow. Like fake announcer voice, "And here he comes with the overhead chop! Ooooo, that's gotta hurt. Is the bed gonna make it? I don't know Bob, that was quite the uppercut." It entertains us both and he gets his feelings out. I also put an actual timer on it so it's a proper bout. 😂 Also- can I try your fried cabbage? That sounds amazing!!
@abjm0325 I hope that your knee heals quickly. Wiping out on a run is the worst.
also im going to confess this here because it’s a safe space but when I got to daycare this morning I realized DD wasn’t buckled in 😭. It’s a 3 minute drive so thank god nothing happened but I feel like the world’s worst mom. I literally never do anything else (or so I thought) until she is buckled in because I’m scatterbrained and this is my fear. I don’t even know what happened that distracted me. Is there anything you guys do to remember or do you all still have functioning brains??
@paytonpedro I totally get trying to deter the violence. It's just so hard to work out what to do and every kid and parent are different. For me, I used to get really physically angry when I was a kid and I asked my mom for a punching bag or karate lessons or *something* and she always said no because she didn't want to encourage it. But I *needed* that physical outlet. I played sports and stuff but when I got to college I immediately joined the rugby team and was like: I have found my people. So for my kids, I try to make space for them to release their anger physically and have it contained in a pillow fight or game so that it can be released in a safe way with very clear rules and boundaries. But I don't think I started doing that until DS was about 5 maybe? My DD is generally different in that she gets mad and storms off to talk to herself about how mad she is in her room (but she does love a pillow fight). People are all just so different. I'm sending you lots of solidarity and I really hope you find something that works for you and keeps you and your house physically safe.
@paytonpedro the threenager phase is ROUGH! When DD2 is really getting out of hand we put her in time out and actually strap her into her booster seat in the kitchen and just put her in the corner that way she can't get out. Sometimes if that doesn't work I put her in her room and tell her to have some quiet time until she's calm. Half the time she destroys her room but honestly idk what else to do.
@bows22 you're not a bad mom!!! Life is stressful and we all have those kind of days. What I do is I don't even put the car into drive until I ask the kids if they're buckled. DD1 can buckle herself but she takes forever to do it so I've made a point to ask before I start driving.

@paytonpedro we also have issues with transitions like getting dressed and out the door - i do a lot of talking through it, but sometimes it's just pure alligator wrestling bc we are running late and have to go. no magical words of wisdom, but i see you!
@bows22 not a bad mom at all! nothing happened, and now i'm sure you'll triple check. give yourself some grace. also liek @paytonpedro the deviation thing is 100% true, not to be doom and gloom - but that's why they say most of the accidents where kids get left in cars are the parent who doesn't normally do the drop off. you just go in autopilot.
also i heard the funniest (but also scariest) thing the other weekend - i was saying about terrible twos and a social circle friend goes, "oh just wait until the f*ck you fours!"
@abjm0325 I could have written your “any thoughts about this cycle” section. Exactly how I’m feeling. I really don’t want TTC to cloud this time of year so I’m trying to keep my head straight. And ugh that sucks about your fall!! Poor you, and also that poor college student that prob had no clue what to do!!
@paturkey the “awkward ninja sex” when having houseguests has worked out well for other TTGP members!
@shortstack930 oh my gosh how sweet is your kid? That’s so nice ❤️❤️. And thank you, I’m going to start getting in the habit of asking her if she’s buckled in as I’m putting my seatbelt on.
@anniemarie887 yay for a new car but omg YES why is it the worst ever. And +1 for thinking I’d have 2 under 2. It took us 6 months to conceive DD but for some reason I thought it would be faster the second time, like maybe coming off of BC was the problem the last time. Nope.
@paytonpedro when DD went through her hitting/lashing out phase she would have to go in timeout to calm down. It worked pretty well and the phase was short lived. Hopefully it is for you too. And thank you!! Your post made me feel so much better. The leaving in the car thing is also something I’m so paranoid about. I think people who are like “I’d never forget my kid” are dangerously arrogant. I always keep my computer bag in the backseat because I wouldn’t get very far at work without that. So scary to think about.
