@sunshineandlemons I just got my second HCG draw this morning so I’m waiting anxiously for tomorrow!!
I’ve listened to the All Too Well 10 min version a lot of times. A LOT of times!! Im not even the biggest T Swift fan but man what that song is so catchy
Here’s another one- I went to pick my daughter up from preschool and my car wouldn’t start so I took my husband’s truck. Evidently, it’s bad to leave your keys in the car because I guess it triggered my anti-theft device on it (it’s parked in the garage, so I’ve not worried about leaving the keys in there, oops). 🤦♀️
I need to vent, sorry if this gets long. The neighbor kids invited themselves over while my husband is at work and life turned into chaos. I texted him that he's returning them the second he comes home. (Our neighbors are like a mile away lol) I'm hungry, the baby is fussy, the dogs are chaos. I had my blood draws this morning, told the nurse that I have difficult veins, and she goes, "we don't need that pessimism in here." Instead of idk looking at my veins to find a good one, she immediately grabs mys hand sticks the needle in my vein right above my pinky finger and digs around, then gave up and went to go to my other hand. I stopped her and said, "Yeah, can we try an arm?" My vein is blown out, my hand is bruised and it hurts to do anything; moving my fingers, holding things, and if I touch it oof. I just want to eat dinner and probably go pet my goats.
@thegeekymom What the heck, why on earth would they start with the hand as their first choice for a blood draw? That's ridiculous. I hope your hand heals fast!
I also suffer from shitty- vein syndrome (pretty sure that's the official medical term), which was a rough combination with IVF. Two things that have helped are (1) drinking a LOT of water starting an hour before the draw, and (2) putting a heating pad on my arm for 5-10 minutes before the draw. You may already know that, but I thought I'd mention it just in case!
@skilouise Pretty sure it's definitely called shitty vein syndrome. 😂 I've had to do everything, sometimes heat works, I'm always uber hydrated before going in, they always need to use a butterfly needle. I've even had them use an ultrasound to find a vein a few times. One time last pregnancy a phlebotomist guessed, she was like "there should be a vein there" and she went in blind and it weirdly worked. I was once turned down, every phlebotomist available tried to find a vein and then they told me to just go home and try again another day. When I needed my IV for my last labor they called in a paramedic (all they had besides nurses at night) he blew out 4 veins and the 5th poke he was literally praying out loud. My veins are a total shit show.
Ouch. When I had my first IVF egg retrieval, I got clearance to drink water up to two hours before the procedure. The anesthesiologist had another job working on pediatric patients, and he tried and failed four times to place the IV. They needed to bring in a second person to place the IV.
When I went into labor, I told them to place the IV right away just in case, even though I didn't need saline or anything for hours. I just didn't want to take a chance. If my life ever depends on the ability for someone to place an IV right away, I'm in trouble.
