Baby clothes

I wanted to start this thread for general baby clothes advice-- favorite brands, if there is an awesome sale, etc.

But also, I was curious if anyone has used UpChoose (https://www.upchoose.com/). It is a subscription service where you return clothes as the little one grows out of it and they send you the next size. I like sustainability aspect of it but I am wondering if it is really worth it. Thoughts?

Re: Baby clothes

  • My boys have pretty much lived in Carters and Cat and Jack since they were born. I find the quality decent, and it's hard to beat the price, although I haven't really looked around that much - we were lucky to have a ton of hand me downs to start. For this baby, I've only really purchased a few things from Target and Carters as well. I've gotten a few things from Hanna Andersson - their stuff is really nice, but pricey. I only buy from them when it's on sale. We bought family PJs from them last winter, and I really like them.

  • My 2 year old mainly has hand me downs, Old Navy, Target, and some Carters.  He is rough on clothes so I never spend too much on daily clothes!  I also love Primary, Gap, Burt's Bees, and H&M.

I have never heard of UpChoose but that sounds like a great idea for clothes newborn to like 12 months since they only wear them for such a short time before sizing up.
  • My favorite places to buy kid clothes are Target, H&M, Old Navy, Gap and Hanna Andersson. I get a lot of things second hand too.
  • I really like Cat and Jack at Target and H&M. Also Nordstrom Rack has some really cute things!
  • I haven’t heard of upchoose but that sounds like a great idea! I just have giant bins full of my daughter’s old clothes that I need to go through for the baby and give away the rest, but I’ve been putting it off.
My daughter pretty much lives in Carter’s/osh kosh and target (cat& jack especially). The price is great and the quality was fine as a young baby, but once she started crawling, and especially going to school her clothes just got destroyed so quickly. We had some good pieces from Burts bees-very soft, and higher quality than Carter’s. The children’s place has some nice stuff but they fit my daughter weird. I got really into freebirdies for a bit. Their sleepers are SO soft, and they really can wear them for a long time, but my daughter has short legs that never seemed to fit them right and once she started crawling they didn’t hold up as well as I would have liked, but I really liked them when she was younger.

I used to despise boys' clothing because I didn't understand the prevalent themes—fire engines, dinosaurs, construction...until my kid hit 18 months and became OBSESSED with construction vehicles. He is only two years old and is enthralled and in love with all things "bau bau," as he refers to backhoes. Dump trucks, forklifts, bulldozers...they all bring out this incredible excitement in him, and I have no idea why!!! I didn't force it on him because it's not even remotely interesting to me- he's simply pulled to it almost instinctively. I am really fussy about his clothes at this site, but I have begun to relax and choose more items that I know he would appreciate. Any T-shirt emblazoned with construction equipment
  • I am so lucky that my boys will be exactly 2 years apart so all of the clothes from my first should fit the second. He had so many clothes that he used and outgrew before he ever wore so I am excited to use them again! My favorite brands are Carter's and Cat & Jack.
  • Exactly the same situation as my first two kids! I went through all the baby boy clothes awhile back and found it hard to get rid of some of it, so my baby girl will be wearing a ton of "boy" stuff that I was too sentimental to donate  :D
  • I just went through my baby girl clothes for baby boy, and got a ton of hand-me downs from a friend. I'm afraid I have too much already! How many short sleeve onesies does a 3 month old need? I think my husband is on the side of "just keep stuff you may use even if it seems like too much"..
  • @jesscak2 this is exactly how my son was! He gets so excited when his truck or sports/balls shirts (or pumpkin Halloween shirt) are clean and picks them out right away.  He just randomly got obsessed with all these things after 18 months as he got new toys/activities and talks about them all the time now.   Now he pretty much lives in sweatpants and tshirts/sweatshirts since he picks them and gets so excited.
