Weekly Randoms 11/1

How was everyone's Halloween? What's on tap for this week?

We had a great weekend. We went to the local-ish amusement park on Saturday, and it was a total s-show. It's a park geared more toward little kids, so it's always a good time, but yeah - the day before Halloween was a madhouse. Luckily the kids just wanted to trick or treat (they had spots set up all over the park to find) and watch the character show and weren't interested in rides - the lines for the rides were crazy. Then yesterday we hung out with my parents and brother and SIL, had dinner, and the kids went out trick or treating for about an hour. SO MUCH CANDY. I also made cookies and cupcakes for the weekend (we were celebrating my little guy's 3rd birthday) so there's junk food all over this house. So dangerous.

This week I'm moving little guy's stuff into big brother's room, and they're going to start sharing a room this weekend. Once his stuff is out, then I can fully start organizing the baby's room.

Is the fact that it's now November freaking anyone else out? I feel like the next two months are just going to fly by!

Re: Weekly Randoms 11/1

  • Wow, @lisa337, you had a very busy weekend! I don’t know how you can do it with two already and being so far along in this pregnancy. Organizing the baby’s room is gonna feel so nice I bet.

Heck yes on the November is here and freaking me out vibe. It’s now just two months away for me. It’s getting too real. I can’t wait to finally see Benny’s face and hold him in my arms and touch him and kiss him!

  • @katepattsea I was honestly surprised at my energy level each evening! I usually collapse in the evening after the kids go to bed on normal days. I guess the kids' excitement is infectious and helps me power through it. We'll see what happens over the next couple of months, though. That same park we went to does special stuff for Christmas, too, and the kids are (of course) super stoked for going again in December. We may need to find a way to squeeze me into that double stroller and have the kids walk!

    Benny  <3 that's so cute! I just think that's such a cute name for a baby/kid.
  • We had our Babymoon in Baltimore this weekend. It was nice but short - in fact, I would say our little mid-stop jaunt on the way there was the highlight of the weekend since the weather was beautiful (and was very crappy once we arrived). We ate good food and saw some cool sites, and I got a wonderful pre-natal massage that I wish would have lasted longer than an hour.

I am getting the feeling that baby will be here before we know it, especially since I'm measuring large, in the 84th percentile (I posted about it in the Baby Weight thread). I'm mentally preparing myself to go early.
  • @fifilala516 Glad to hear your baby moon was nice, albeit short and during not so nice weather. All I think about when I think of Baltimore is crab and The Wire 🤣 #westcoastproblems

Probably a good mindset to prepare for an earlier delivery - at least you can have everything ready and not be stressed if the baby comes early. Or you could be like my SIL who was measuring fairly large, was 2 weeks late anyway, and gave birth to a kid that was nearly 10 pounds (and she did it at home 🤯🤯🤯) But I’ll keep my fingers crossed it won’t be like that 🙂

  • @Lisa3379 - sounds like such a fun Halloween!

@katepattsea - Benny is such a cute name!

@fifilala516 - I know what you mean about the feeling baby is gonna come early.  I have that same feeling!

Our Halloween was low key.  Hardly any trick or treaters so now we have a bunch of leftover candy my husband has to eat.   We bought a car seat! We went with the Nuna pipa but still need to get more stuff for baby room.
  • @Lisa3379 I’m set to induce middle of Jan if she doesn’t come before then and it’s just so wild to think Jan is in two months. On one hand I’m so over being pregnant but on the other hand I still have a lot to do around the house (remodel is going painfully slow) and at work. I have a huge presentation in two weeks that I’m presenting to the CEO/L team, I’m excited because it a great opportunity/exposure but it’s also a little stressful. It’s via Zoom since we’re still not back in the office so that makes it a little easier - especially since I’m feeling super large and waddle-y

@fifilala516 glad you guys had a great babymoon, prenatal massages are so nice!

@karenmarie9 i ordered our car seat in the beginning of September and it still hasn’t shipped. Starting to get a little concerned - these supply chain issues are no joke! We ordered a few new furniture pieces for our living room over a month ago and they won’t arrive until March 🙃
  • @elksamm My car seat and stroller aren’t due to arrive until mid-December, which is a little concerning…
  • @fifilala516 just checked the date - I ordered in August and it was supposed to arrive by October, now they are saying hopefully by November but who knows!

Anyone thinking of getting the Snoo? If so, will you rent or buy? Does anyone know if they go on sale for Black Friday? I was looking into renting because this is for sure our last kid but when you add everything up and factor in resale price it kinda makes more sense to buy. Plus then you can get it in advance and not worry about ordering at the perfect time. Of course there’s always the chance LO won’t like it and renting would have made much more sense…
  • @elksamm I keep second guessing my decision to not rent a Snoo. I don't know. Even though renting seems like a great option (especially if the baby doesn't really like it) I'm reluctant to get something that I'm going to have to wean the baby from. What's the typical resale price?
  • @Lisa3379 the low end of the Snoo resale price is $600. DS used the rock n play (now recalled/discontinued) and it worked so well and while there was some transition period to not using it it was so nice to get all the extra sleep in the beginning, DS was sleeping 12 hrs a night by 10 weeks
  • @Lisa3379 I think the incline is what helped so much, being able to put DS down right after feeding without causing indigestion/spit up. Looks like you’ve picked a good option
  • I just finished a podcast that I was absolutely riveted by, and wanted to recommend it to anyone interested, especially if you're into true crime stuff. It's called Your Own Backyard, and it's about the 1996 disappearance of a Cal Poly student named Kristin Smart. It's been a decades-long investigation, and because of this podcast (most of it came out in 2019) there have been some big developments in the past year. It's really well done - I finished the over 10 hours of it in two days.
  • Anyone who already birthed a child and isn't planning on taking birthing classes? I'm feeling like I should be fine, but a refresher would be good.. plus I feel like I have no time and no babysitters!
  • @Limes030 I've birthed 2 and am not taking a class. I didn't take a class before #2, either. The thought has crossed my mind to refresh my memory about things... I think people have mentioned podcasts here before? That might be a good substitute for a class. Can anyone help out and name some birthing podcasts that they've heard are good, or have found them to be decent personally?

@Limes030 I’m not planning on taking a birthing class, I did centering care with DS and found it to be rather useless. Nothing went even close to the way I had planned and everything I had learned went out the window once I ended up in L&D. I’m in no way saying it’s useless for everyone but it just wasn’t for me.
  • I paid for a birthing class (online) through the hospital and found it to be a waste of money. I learned maybe 1 or 2 things I hadn’t known before.
  • @elksamm I agree for the most part. I found the classes most helpful with easing my fears about childbirth, and just getting a better idea about the basic process and options available for handling pain, etc.
  • Limes030 I did no class with my first child and will do no class with my second.  I always have anxiety about what's going to happen and what to expect, but remind myself that women have been doing this for hundreds of years.  We all got this, birthing class or not.
  • @Limes030 I am actually planning on taking one this time. This is baby #3. I took the hospital classes before my first daughter. For my second I took nothing. But I am aiming for a natural birth this time so I’m taking some classes with my midwives for allll the info on the medication free birth since I have never had one! These classes are free too, so that helps haha. If you’re doing it the same way you birthed your other one, odds are you will be just fine 😉.
  • @Limes030 this is baby #2 and no class for us. Honestly the class we took before #1 ended up not being helpful for us at all.
