Baby weight

So I am 27weeks1day! I had an ultrasound on Thursday when I was 26w6d, and they ultrasound said the baby is weighing in at 2.7lbs. I have a feeling i’m going to have a big baby, which terrifies me! (ripping wise or not being able to deliver vaginally). Anyone else know the weight of their baby yet? if so how far along are you & what do they weigh!? Am I being dramatic? Is there something I can do to fix this?

Re: Baby weight

  • I wouldn't worry too much. It's just estimates. With my oldest they estimated him at being almost 9 pounds two days before delivery. He was 6 lb 7 oz at birth.

  • @firewife_911 ultrasounds can be way off with measurements. Is this your first baby? I tore with my first and smallest baby (8.2 lbs) but didn’t tear with my 9.1 lb babies.
  • @firewife_911 Ultrasounds are generally considered about 20% give or take on size. I was having biweekly ultrasounds for 3 weeks leading up to my first, and they were estimating almost 7 lbs, turns out she was growth restricted and 5 lbs 5 oz at birth. I was like, how did you not know, you were checking her so much?! My doctor just shrugged and said weights aren’t super accurate. So I don’t put a ton of faith in ultrasound weights.
  • @firewife_911 don't put too much stock in the estimated weight of your baby based on imaging.

When I was pregnant with my first, I listened to the Evidence Based Birth podcast to get good information backed by science. I believe they have an episode(s) which include 'big babies' etc. I'd recommend checking it out to help quell your fears.
  • So at today's u/s. 29+6. Little man measuring 3.5 pounds. I think 52nd percentile. Rough estimate if baby gains a half a pund a week in 3rd trimester. That puts us at a 8.5 pound baby at birth. Also its pkus or minus 6 oz.according to u/s tech.
  • I had my 28-wk appointment today and apparently I am measuring large. Not anything alarming, but the doctor wanted me to go for my growth scan (which was scheduled for Nov. 23) for next week. Silver lining that I get to see the baby next week?
  • Baby is about 3 pounds, 9 oz and 84th percentile. I have a feeling I may deliver early!
  • @fifilala516 delivering early sounds pretty nice! I haven’t had a growth scan since the 20 week AS where LO was measuring right at the 50th percentile. I’m feeling so big, LO is for sure going to be bigger than DS (he was 6 lbs 4 oz full term, 3rd percentile). I have an appointment on Friday and think we’ll schedule my final growth scan then.
