Follicle Count on Early Days of IVF

Hello,

We just started our first IVF. Today is the day 5 of the cycle and Day 3 of the injections. We just had the ultrasound and there are three follicles. RE said more of them might pop up in the next day or two. I know 3 is on the low side. Do you have any experiences with more follicles popping up in day 6-7 of the cycle? Is it common? We are super bumped up and just wanted to hear others' experiences.

Best,

  • Yes in my experience I always start out with 2-3 and end with 11-12 retrieved and I’ve had 6 egg retrieval’s. Everyone is different though! I know it’s easy to overthink it but try not to stress so much in the early days.

  • thank you so much for the reply. I hope it is similar in my case. my AMH is 1.47, which is on the low side of normal that's why I am extremely stressed and anxious.
    thanks again.

  • My AMH (at 33!) was 0.62 as I recall for my first IVF cycle and around 0.28 for my second (I'm probably fudging the numbers a bit). I had similar stats to yours -- 3 to 4 on first check and usually ending up with around 10 eggs.

Out of those, we got 2 embryos (day 6) our first cycle, transferred both and had a take-home baby girl in 2018. The second cycle we got a few more embryos (2 girls, 1 mosaic). Transferred one and due early December 2021.

This is just the first of many steps on your journey so just take it a day at a time and you'll make it through!
