I had my future totally planned out when I was a kid. I was going to be a dolphin trainer at Sea World and then retire into fashion design with a little boutique on a Southern California pier. Obviously neither of those things happened lol. But one day I hope to get into something a little more creative, if only as a hobby. I have a sewing machine collecting dust and a mom who would love to pass the skill on to one of her adult kids. My sisters nominated me 😂
I wanted to own my own daycare but like a fun daycare with jungle gyms inside and all the best toys. I literally used to draw out photos of the layout of the school. I also wanted to own my own sandwich shop. It would be located next door to the daycare so I could easily hop back and forth.
I, just like @pinkkillersheep, wanted to be a dolphin trainer or a marine biologist - but growing up in Wisconsin meant have to move out of state to complete a degree.
I wanted to be a teacher from my first day of preschool until I was a junior in college. I was in my a student teaching placement and I realized I loved the kids but realized I couldn’t get a hold of a single parent, 1st graders were getting handcuffed and taken out of my classroom, I was trying to find maternity uniforms for pregnant 4th graders, I cried leaving everyday. Nothing I could do would be enough, ever. By elementary school we as a society had already failed these kids.
So I went into healthcare and I specialize in pediatrics. Now I’m working on my second degree in Women’s studies and sociology with a minor in org leadership. I want to work with women survivors of human trafficking.
I wanted to be a teacher. I loved school, I loved tutoring my peers, and I loved the whole schedule. I taught high school for five years before switching to Upward Bound which is exactly the fulfillment I needed with students minus the stress of lesson planning/testing/classroom management.
