Upcoming Appointments: Anatomy scan Nov 10th - I can't believe how fast this is going!
How are you feeling?: Definitely feeling significantly better these days. I've also cut down on my carb intake significantly and that seems to have made a huge difference. Even when not pregnant I feel a lot better on a lower carb diet. High carb meals give me a lot of indigestion (heartburn, burping, etc.). So I think I'll try to stick to that as much as I can.
Rant: I find that I'm having a hard time committing to things for this baby. I keep having this feeling that the rug is going to be pulled out from under me. For example: I want to book with a photographer for newborn photos, but I can't bring myself to reach out to her. I told myself after my last appt I would, and now I'm thinking of waiting until after the anatomy scan. But then I'm thinking well will I even be able to do newborn photos? what if I have a preemie again? Ugh. Don't get me wrong, I'm super excited. But I just feel so nervous that its all going to come crashing down on me. Rave: I've definitely been feeling some movements lately. Its pretty small but an occasional kick or punch near my pelvis. It's been very sweet!
Upcoming Appointments: Nothing for two more weeks.
How are you feeling? Mostly good, but very tired! I get up at 6 to spend some time with hubs before he leaves for work, and then go back to bed for a couple hours. (I freelance from home and am between jobs, so I’m grateful to be able to sleep in!)
Still having occasional queasiness, but not too bad. And my back is gradually getting better after a minor injury last week.
Raves: I feel like my little bump is finally here to stay! For a while it kind of fluctuated day to day (probably depending on bloating and how recently I had eaten, lol). Some mornings I would think, I don’t even look pregnant today! But today, even when I suck in my belly, the bump is still there a little bit!
I’ve also been feeling the occasional flutter, although I’m not positive it’s the baby… Could just as easily be my own muscles twitching.
Excited that today is my last day in the first trimester!!!
Me: 30 // Hubs: 31 Married May 2019 Baby #1 due April 19, 2022
Upcoming Appointments: nothing until Nov, but I am excited cause I haven’t seen the baby since 5 weeks and I’m so ready!!
How are you feeling?: OK, starting to feel a bump coming which makes it more real, and I’m expecting to feel flutters soon.
Rants/Raves: really ready for Halloween and enjoying all the actives I have going on. I got to take my 16 week bump pick on top of Grandfather Mountain, so I was happy about that.
Upcoming Appointments: I think I have one in a couple weeks
How are you feeling?: shitty. I think the nausea is starting to wear off, but the aversions aren't, and the pain is getting worse and worse. Reached out to a new PT, but I haven't heard back. Just trying to psych myself up for pushing through this much pain for 24+ weeks (pain didn't go away with birth last time).
Rants/Raves: Rave: it rained yesterday!!!!!! Drought + fire season has me so anxious, but rain makes me feel better on both fronts. I hope it pours all fall, winter and spring lol.
How are you feeling?: Overall pretty good! Still having weird aversions to things, but no nausea. Maternity pants are starting to stay up better which is great because they're SO comfortable.
Rants/Raves: I got my covid booster yesterday and I've felt awful all day. It's 6:30pm now and I'm starting to feel a little better- I've slept most of the day. Counting on feeling 100% by morning! Or 85, I'd settle for 85.
Questions: Can we do a product spotlight on breast pumps? I need to know which ones y'all loved and what all has changed in the 5 years since I've done this!
How are you feeling: Vacation lag. Today was the first day back of real life. So tired but like good busy. I vasolate between feeling almost normal with mild tiredness and nausea/fatigue. I'm happy to have some good times mixed in sick all the time was getting old quickly.
Rants/raves: My child lost her mind tonight poor thing is exhausted came out of nowhere at 6:30 pm. Then it was all down hill that sleepy delusional state where they will do anything to stay up and cry on a dime. Hard to go back to school and be "on" all day and not have 7 adults all cater to you all the time like on vacation, I get it.
Also, shout out to the Gatorade my husband makes. He adds as much salt as I can tolerate which is still half concentrate of Pedialyte as well as my other go to in nausea 20% cranberry juice with 80% water or on special occasions sparkle water. Pretty sure it's how I'm still alive.
On another note our reveal went off perfectly! We had our daughter open a box and it had a shirt that read, Big Sister Finally! She was excited but everyone else was shocked. My grandmother in law said on video, "But you said the factory was closed!?" Lots of tears. It was so fun and we got to do gender reveal at the same time thanks to NIPT. Also, we got to tell both sets of grandparents at the same time. Considering one set lives like 6 states away it's a miracle this worked out during a pandemic.
Questions: My brother is going on about mama bear diapers. I feel old and out of the loop. What cult is this?

Rants/Raves: My rave is that my husband has been so amazing, picking up craving foods without hesitation and just being really gentle and loving. I'm so glad I get to go on this journey with him. He was finally able to come to an ultrasound with me yesterday, as our COVID restrictions have eased, and it was so sweet seeing how much he already loves this baby. My rant is that I had a big fight with my mother today. She has chosen the last couple of years to go full conspiracy theorist and anti vaxxer and we had a big argument about how I won't be letting her see the baby if she doesn't get vaccinated for whooping cough. She tried to make me feel guilty but I am putting my foot down as this is important to me and it's our choice as parents to do what we have to, to keep our baby safe.

How are you feeling?: I’ve definitely had more energy, and less nausea! 🙌 However, the food aversions are still a beast. I’m still extremely limited in what my stomach will allow me to eat. I gagged on a fleck of cracked pepper in my cous cous for lunch today (black pepper of all things has been the WORST). Last week I had on and off headaches and Friday it was absolutely throbbing. 😓 Laying down for the evening and sleeping it off that night did the trick— I guess my body was just telling me it needed more rest!
Rants/Raves: My registry is kicking my butt. How does a baby possibly need so many items?? Just clothing him seems like such a huge feat!
Questions: Am I insane for having 163 items on my baby registry already? And I still have more items to add. 😅 Is that excessive?? We have Christmas and both our birthdays before baby comes so hopefully that will help. We decided to put on all clothing for the first 6 months or so too because if someone gets them for us, great, and if not, we’ll use the completion discount to get them ourselves. Is anyone else in this ballpark?
163 sounds like a lot (for me). Babies don’t really need much (especially newborns), but I think those check-lists make it seem like we do.
I never put clothes in my registry because I want people to focus on the other items, I like to pick out the clothes myself. People still get me clothes in the end….
Start by Thinking about the basics: feeding, sleeping, cleaning/diapering and transport. Everything else is gravy. Also, I don’t know how much space you have, with my first and second we lived in a 2 bedroom townhouse so I didn’t have a ton of space for all the baby swings/bouncers etc, we made it just fine….
In the end, if your family and friends buy your entire registry, that’s great. However, if they miss certain items, don’t go crazy on buying them all yourself, unless critical.

Don’t get too many clothes, they never get to wear them too much before they outgrow them. Remember they outgrow them within 2-3 months. I had my babies in onesies or footies at the beginning because it’s soooooo much easier to change them 10x a day. Pick a couple of picture worthy outfits, but be aware that they may only wear them for a picture and will outgrow them in no time. Also, you don’t know how big/small your baby will be at birth so some of the sizes/season may not match so get a variety of sizes. Neither of my girls wore newborn sizes for longer than 2 weeks.
Once they are 6+ months, they are less floppy and can wear outfits better.
I happens too fast!

@rbflei Mama bear is on of the Amazon brands. @shlecks we have a newborn feeding series scheduled and the first one in the series is for breast feeding/pumps. So yes! it is coming, I just moved it up, so it will be next week! @minnie_yoga_mama I'll echo @queenklau focus on the must have/basics first. safe sleep, car seat. maybe diapers and wipes. I will say we were team green and didn't have a lot of clothing on our registry and we still got a lot of things. I would also consider the season you're registering in vs when baby will be born. often times clothing you put on your registry now will not be available in the next season/when you have a shower, etc. Also, if you don't want to look at your registry/want to keep things a surprise have a friend keep tabs on it for you and let you know if/when you need to add things at certain price points etc.

How are you feeling?: fine. really can't complain at this point.
Rants/Raves: I've had to move up to my "bigger" scrubs. We still haven't told a lot of people. We saw DH's parents Saturday and finally told them, but I haven't seen my family in person in a while, guess we'll just send a text? idk.

@minnie_yoga_mama no one bought anything off our registry, but I bought off our registry because most stores will give you a completion discount or bonus to use to complete your registry so I still think it's worth treating a registry like your own shopping list.
Est Due Date / Weeks + Days: Est Due Date - April 16
FTM/STM/TTM+: FTM
Upcoming Appointments: Nov 2 for monthly check in -- last one with this doctor because I'm moving...need to find another doctor ASAP!
How are you feeling?: Within the last few days I've been feeling mostly normal! I can eat whatever I want, which has been amazing. I definitely feel like I get dehydrated quickly so I'm trying to be better about drinking more. Still battling insomnia/early morning pee sessions...but I don't feel quite as "bone-tired" as I was feeling last week.
Rants/Raves: I just found out I'm having a girl! Me and my partner were so excited and couldn't help but buy some onesies...got several on sale at Old Navy and ended up only spending $1.94 with the rewards I had. Even if she never wears them, I feel like it was money well worth it. And I've always told my partner I wanted more than one kid (even though I am fully aware I may change my mind after having one haha), but as soon as I told him we were having a girl he said, well that settles it...we have to try for a boy next time. Other than that, I'm getting ready to move this weekend (ahhhhh) and just trying not to let the stress overwhelm me.
Upcoming Appointments: OB appointment and specialist appointment next Thursday to begin discussing cervical length checks and progesterone shots/suppositories due to my history of preterm delivery
How are you feeling?: A bajillion times better. I can finally tolerate hot coffee and tea again, snacks are enjoyable, and I don’t gag while making dinner anymore. The fatigue is there but I feel like I’m always tired anyways so now I just have an excuse for a guilt-free power nap in the afternoons.
Rants/Raves: I don’t remember who said it (it may be on another thread) but we are also taking DD6 on her first tent camping trip this weekend! It’ll be our first island hop since Covid began last year and we’ve never been to this one before so it will be really nice to just get away and camp on the beach for a few days.
Upcoming Appointments: Not until mid November now. But then anatomy scan the day before Thanksgiving!
How are you feeling?: Overall much better! The nausea and fatigue are definitely starting to reduce. I think I’m going to try going off the Unisom and B6 this weekend, but not looking forward to the insomnia that comes with the transition. Also, I’ve been feeling some definitive baby movements (i.e., that I can distinguish from gas) in the last 2-3 days.
Rants/Raves: I’ve gotten some great feedback about my work from the supervisor for my new job, which feels great! I also got to see my parents this weekend 😊 They live out of state, so visits are exciting.
Questions: Can we add team blue/pink/green to the weekly check-in? It would help keep track of people better!
I agree not to register for clothes. You get them no matter what and you can get then fairly cheap when you need to. What helped with my registry was I had a very thorough friend who had a kid a few months before me and I asked what what recommended and she sent me a list and why she loves it. She was right about all of it.

How are you feeling?: still waiting for all of the first trimester ickiness to be gone all the time.
Rants/Raves: my aost 3 year old son got sick this weekend, luckily it wasn't covid but doing with a sick toddler who in turn gets you sick is exhausting. He's back to moral today but I'm still recovering lol
I actually would say you should register for at least one set of clothes in the hopes that people could at least see what your style is, but no more than that.
How are you feeling?: Much better overall. Even though I’m past the initial drop-dead fatigue, I still need a lot of rest and tire much more quickly than normal— or than I did in previous pregnancies.
Rants/Raves: DH and I just got back from our anniversary/baby moon trip in the Smoky Mountains. It was really nice and we enjoyed it, and the kids had a great time without us. But when we got back home this evening the transition was REAL. Whew. Glad they’re all asleep now.
How are you feeling?: feeling ok. Still struggling to eat but needing to eat more
Rants/Raves: I’m honestly an emotional mess this week. Spoilering because this got long and ranty
I submitted a big section of my dissertation and I’m not really sure how to take the feedback, which is sending me into a tailspin. I’m talking to my advisor tomorrow so I’m hoping that helps. I always thought that I would finish my dissertation, get my degree, and move onto another career. Now, I’m feeling so inadequate that I feel like I definitely want to go back to teaching next year, but that feels like a waste of this year. Ugh! It’s way too early to make decisions like these, but it’s all I can think about right now.
@fameonmain2 Aww, I hope your talk with your advisor will be really helpful and encouraging. That’s a big emotional step and decision even without pregnancy hormones.

How are you feeling?: Sooooooo tiredddddd. I think I skated through 1st Tri without too much fatigue, but it’s all caught up to me now. Like all of it at once.
Rants/Raves: I was looking at the calendar and realized it’s almost time for my next appt and was super excited, until I realized it’s telehealth. So there will be like nothing to it. But at least after that, it’ll almost be time for the anatomy scan. We’re moving along!
@fameonmain2, sending you good vibes! It always seems worse than it is while you are living through it. How are you feeling?: Gross. I'm nauseous and still having food aversions. I thought I'd turned a corner but I think the weird switch between warm and cold weather here is making my sinuses act up, which might be affecting my nausea?
Rants/Raves: Dr is not helping with my Sudafed confusion. Internet says no til 2nd tri. Pharmacist says yes, but half the dose with double the time between. Dr responded to my Sudafed specific question with a badly formatted list of things I can take throughout the entire pregnancy, with notes about specific ones. The formatting was so bad I can't tell if the "limited only after 24 weeks" goes with Sudafed or not. Like, just tell me yes or no on this one. Single. Med. Rave: my son has managed to escape being a close contact through 3 separate rounds of covid cases and contact tracing at his school, which now has 6 active cases and is still open.
@bluecampanula thank you I hate telehealth so much! Are things still very restricted where you are? Or is this common for non-ultrasound appts?
@monstera13 I'm in education! But my dissertation has a historical focus so I do a lot of archival research.
@queenklau thank you I already feel a little better today, I talked to someone else on my committee last night and it seemed like I was close on this draft, so hopefully that's a good sign for my conversation later today!
@smashjam thanks! And so glad your son has escaped being a close contact. My nephew's elementary class had half out due to testing positive but luckily he did not. It was a week of serious anxiety though waiting for his test to come back every day!
@fameonmain2 yes and no? I have a really hard time telling how we stack up to other regions. There are the cdc/federal/state/county rules and guidelines - but then individual organizations frequently take things further.
The main OB/CNM group associated with the hospital is doing all in person visits. I opted for individual dr midwives I’ve used before, but they are doing every other visit by telehealth as an extra precaution. I made the decision knowing this part would annoy me, but went for familiarity, mainly.
@SmashJam pharmacist here There are no well controlled studies in pregnant women using sudafed. Mostly retrospective and interview style, self reported data. They show a small increase in risk for certain defects like gastroschisis when taken in 1st tri, but no other variables were accounted for such as dose, longevity, smoking, etc. That being said, I typically recommend waiting until 2nd and 3rd trimester if you can wait it out. Also though, I took Sudafed 4x before flights in my first trimester with DS3. I know that's not super helpful or definitive but its unfortunately a "We dont know. Weigh risk vs benefit" type situation. If I was totally miserable, I'd take the lowest effective dose for the shortest amount of time possible.

Est Due Date / Weeks + Days: 4/3, 16+2
FTM/STM/TTM+: STM
Upcoming Appointments: OB appt next week, MFM in 3 weeks
How are you feeling?: fine. really can't complain at this point.
Rants/Raves: I've had to move up to my "bigger" scrubs. We still haven't told a lot of people. We saw DH's parents Saturday and finally told them, but I haven't seen my family in person in a while, guess we'll just send a text? idk.

Questions: nothing I can think of.
FTM/STM/TTM+: STM, DD6

What helped with my registry was I had a very thorough friend who had a kid a few months before me and I asked what what recommended and she sent me a list and why she loves it. She was right about all of it.
Est Due Date / Weeks + Days: 4/18 - 14 weeks 2 days
FTM/STM/TTM+: these will be 4 and 5
Upcoming Appointments: midwife Tuesday
How are you feeling?: Much better overall. Even though I’m past the initial drop-dead fatigue, I still need a lot of rest and tire much more quickly than normal— or than I did in previous pregnancies.
Rants/Raves: DH and I just got back from our anniversary/baby moon trip in the Smoky Mountains. It was really nice and we enjoyed it, and the kids had a great time without us. But when we got back home this evening the transition was REAL. Whew. Glad they’re all asleep now.
Questions: nope
FTM/STM/TTM+: FTM
Upcoming Appointments: November
How are you feeling?: feeling ok. Still struggling to eat but needing to eat more
Rants/Raves: I’m honestly an emotional mess this week. Spoilering because this got long and ranty
Questions:
FTM/STM/TTM+: 4TM, Team Green
Upcoming Appointments: November 3! November is almost here!

@bluecampanula I'm ready for my fatigue to be done too! It's all I can do to get the dishwasher loaded. Hopefully it disappears quickly!

Est Due Date / Weeks + Days: 13 weeks tomorrow!
