Time for everyone’s most hated thread!

Week's Successes:

Week's Challenges:

GTKY: What is your go-to comfort movie?

Re: Fit Mom Friday 10/8

  • Health/Fitness Goal: very vague but I just want to eat healthy and keep my body mobile through yoga, walking, and moderate exercise

Week's Successes: 2 yoga sessions and 1 workout this week! It's not much but it's an improvement. And my glutes are actually sore!

Week's Challenges: working from home snack attacks. I need to stock up on healthy snacks

GTKY: What is your go-to comfort movie? Not a movie, but alternating between Downton Abbey and Great British Baking Show

  • Health/Fitness Goal (and why, if you want to share): Avoid excessive weight gain, maintain strength for a smooth L&D and healing process

Week's Successes: One cardio-strength circuit (I’m still sore! Yay!) and one walk.

Week's Challenges: I’m working full-time hours this month and it has been rough, after being part-time or less than for the past six years. On my days off I have no motivation to work out, I would rather nap, but I’m trying to schedule in both during the day because I feel like they’re both important.

GTKY: What is your go-to comfort movie? Sleepless in Seattle or You’ve Got Mail (love Tom and Meg), but also if I just need something to have on I usually go for GBBO (so soothing and calm!).

Health/Fitness Goal (and why, if you want to share): Eat a nutritious diet (within the confines of what my food aversions will allow) and continue my weekly yoga practice to strengthen my pelvic floor and prepare my body as best as I can for birth.

Week's Successes: Prenatal yoga 4x after work this week, and I even snuck in an extra walk during one of my lunch breaks!

Week's Challenges: It’s still soooo hot outside, it’s nearly impossible to walk outside during my lunch break or do any other outdoor exercise. But temperatures should be going down soon, so fingers crossed I’ll be able to get out there soon!

GTKY: What is your go-to comfort movie? Hmmm comfort movie…. I’d have to go with Aladdin. It’s one I can watch over and over again and “A Whole New World” always gives me the feels since it was our first dance song at our wedding. 🥰

Question: Has anyone tried yin yoga during pregnancy or a prenatal yin class? From what I’m gaining from my prenatal yoga classes, learning to breathe and relax your tight or contracted muscles through pain is very important to practice to prepare for birth. Since yin postures are held for 3-5 min it seems like they would make for the perfect practice for labor prep. Has anyone tried this or for STM, do you think this kind of practice would be helpful?
  • @minnie_yoga_mama I’ve never tried it but that sounds great! For me, a lot of my attention during labor was focused on imagery, commanding my muscles to relax, and breathing deeply and slowly. And depending on what kind of a labor and delivery experience you are aiming for, something that prepares you for holding a position such as squatting for a period of time would be really helpful.
  • Health/Fitness goal would be to maintain regular exercise, relieve stress and build more stamina, and obviously prevent any bodily issues that arose during pregnancy. Exercise like some aerobic activities like walking and swimming for thirty minutes a day and Yoga while avoiding lying on belly or flat on back. Actually my friend is in her second trimester. we discussed this, she mostly wants to relax but for next week she has re-scheduled for exercise. I am helping her.

  • Health/Fitness Goal (and why, if you want to share): maintain basic strength/endurance so I can keep up with my kids!

Week's Successes: 2 strength workouts, a couple prenatal specific ones also, a couple walks

Week's Challenges: I swear fatigue just hit me. I was hoping to get walks in every day, my fave is to go with DH after dinner because it’s the one time I can really get him to open up and chat. But he had evening meetings all week. (We’ll do “night walks” with the kids throughout this season too as holiday decorations start popping up, i took them on a mini one once this week)

GTKY: What is your go-to comfort movie? Like to watch by myself? Bahahahaha. Howls Moving Castle is probably my favorite book and the movie version is very relaxing. With the kids, How to Train your Dragon is one of my favorites. For awhile DH was into some shows that weren’t my favorite and so I’d make him rewatch The Office with me afterwards, I don’t remember how I put it, so I wouldn’t have nightmares? Lol
  • @bluecampanula I totally get it, The Office is our palate cleanser, too! We’ll watch something super heavy and then just turn on an episode of the Michael Scott Show and everything is better.
  • @aloha_mama it’s such a good show. We definitely watched the whole thing again last year too, because we didn’t have the emotional energy for anything else
