Re: Weekly randoms w/o 10/2

  • It's a little quiet this week! What is everyone up to?
  • Loading the player...
  • work is so busy! But there have been some staffing changes recently that i think will be really productive. fingers crossed.
  • i spent the morning arguing with my OB office about the fact that they forgot to order one of the screening tests they offered and I opted to get. Of course, I didn’t realize this until today (thanks pregnancy brain) and today is the last day I am eligible based on gestational age. They gave me a very pointed line of questioning, told me that it is not their typical process to do both the two that I chose and that someone should’ve informed me of that when I filled out the ridiculous form they gave to me. My midwife kindly went the extra mile to get it done for me, which I appreciated. Then, to top it all of the lab I made an appointment at was closed for an emergency - why I could even make a same-day appointment while they were closed is beyond me. Eventually I found  another lab in town that was open and got the blood drawn before the end of day. Such a fun full-day fire drill 😑🤦‍♀️
  • @morgantu fx! Change is hard but hopefully those changes help!

@jenis_fan_for_life oh boy! Well that sounds like a big hassle. I'm glad you were ultimately able to get the test done.

I'm over here panicking a little bit about the supply chain. We need to get a new dresser for our bedroom so that we can put a changing pad on top for the new baby, and we also desperately need the extra storage room. I am freaking out that nothing (that I like at least) will arrive by March. Most things are just totally sold out. Total first world problems, I know.
  • @kgg2241 we just ordered some furniture on Sunday and it won't be here for 8 weeks. Big hope it'll be here by then, even. I'm already ordering holiday gifts because im nervous about supply chain issues.
  • @kgg2241 I already did my Christmas shopping for exactly this reason!!!
  • @jenis_fan_for_life that is so enraging that they didn’t tell you they weren’t doing it, they just skipped it! What a crock of shit.

I’m anxious over here because I got a call on Friday from a genetic counselor letting me know that I tested positive as a carrier for Pompe disease. He explained that the chances of this negatively affecting the baby are low, about 1/400. I was comforted to realize that at those odds, it’s still more likely that something else would go horribly wrong for the fetus. But anyway now we need to get my husband tested to check if he’s a carrier, and I cannot get maternal fetal medicine to freaking call me back so I can set up the appointment. I’ve called them 5 times since Friday, I can never get through, and they never return voicemails. It took me two weeks to schedule my own genetic testing with this office, and we literally cannot afford to wait that long for this test. I am so frustrated.
  • @morgantu @Panaceia oh good point! I have no idea what I even want to get DD yet 😬. We might take a trip instead to take some of the pressure off, but I still need to figure out a few things.

@jessier19 well that's frustrating. That is a lot of calls for them to not get back to you. I would be extremely annoyed. Hopefully they get back to you and you can get DH's testing done asap. I'm also sorry for the worry that comes with finding out you're a carrier. Fx his test comes back fine.
  • @kgg2241 if you find out the exact name and part number for a dresser you like, search it generally and you might find options. I did that because like 5 places had it sold out then I finally found it in stock on a different site.
  • @jessier19 for sure a crock of shit! And I can’t believe MFM is so unreachable!! Do you have the genetic counselor’s contact information? Are they scheduling you with a genetic counselor from the MFM department? Or another type of provider? You could try reaching out and asking for the genetic counselor’s help getting an appointment for your husband. If you don’t have his contact info, I might be able to find it for you. I am also a genetic counselor and we have a database we can look up other GC’s direct contact info.
  • @jessier19 how frustrating! Unbelievable. Especially because this involves something that is a) time sensitive and b) will take days if not weeks to even get results after you finally get an appointment. I am so so sorry. Is there another office you can contact? Or even go to the office in person?
  • Pregnancy insomnia sucks.

    That is all.
  • @goldfishcraker
I feel you. I don’t recall it being this bad with my son, but this pregnancy insomnia is kicking my butt.
I hope you can get some good rest soon.
  • Happy Thanksgiving to our Canadian friends!
  • I suck at checking in. It's been a crazy month so far. Hopefully things will calm down and I can check in at least a couple times a week!
