Re: Fit Mom Friday 10/1

  • Health/Fitness Goal (and why, if you want to share): Trying to keep up my energy and stay active but right now just mostly trying to survive first tri somewhat upright.

Week's Successes: A few yoga flows was about all I could manage. But today DD6 and I went on a hike! It was muddy and I think I have a million mosquito bites, but it ended with a bunch of natural pools and waterfalls and it was amazing. DD6 went swimming for a bit and we brought lunch. I love that she is at an age where doing things with her is fun for the both of us (although I’m pretty sure I have a ton of video footage of me nagging her to stay off the slippery rocks).

Week's Challenges: Working a lot more than I wish I could but that’s just the phase of life we’re in right now. DH is in grad school and he gets some money still from the Reserves but we rely mostly on my paycheck. I do feel less nauseous at work, maybe because I’m too busy to notice? But yesterday I didn’t sit down until 3 pm and “lunch” didn’t happen until 4 pm. I’m just tired.

GTKY: What holiday tradition do you have that is unique to your family? We don’t make turkey on Thanksgiving, DH smokes a pork butt, and I make key lime pie for dessert. For Christmas we focus more on “stockings”, which are in theory stockings but everyone’s takes up at least half a couch. DH and I always stay up the night before wrapping presents and watching “Die Hard”.

@aloha_mama  Kudos for you to getting to some yoga even when feeling exhausted. Just chiming in to say that I usually try to be a fit pregnancy mama after the first trimester when I can function. I am not there yet, but hopeful I can join this thread starting in the next few weeks. I haven’t gained any weight (down 5) so far due to MS, but I am already feeling “floppy” so I def want to get back to it soon in some form.

Does anyone have any recommendations for thigh/glute/leg workouts in pregnancy?
  • @Ivorytower2 Squats, squats, squats! I love squats lol so good for you and help so much with labor and delivery. Reverse and curtsy lunges, donkey kicks, and kneeling kickbacks are also great.
  • Health/Fitness Goal (and why, if you want to share): Continue a regular 4x/week yoga practice and prepare my body as best as I can for an easier labor!

Week's Successes: Dragged myself onto the yoga mat for my 4 days this week after work, despite the exhaustion and totally feeling like crawling into a ball and sleeping for the night. 😅

Week's Challenges: 😴😴😴 Can I just sleep all day, all the time??? I literally have no energy to do anything but work and sleep right now! I had to shorten some of the practices to 20 or 30 min, but still got them done!

GTKY: What holiday tradition do you have that is unique to your family? My family has their own self-created holiday called the “Disney Dinner!” It started when I was just a baby, when my whole family— aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents included— would travel to Disney for a family vacation every spring break! So just prior to going on our trip, we’d hold an annual Disney Dinner, where we’d make recipes of dishes you can find at the parks and resorts, wear Disney clothes, play Disney games, play Disney park music, and do all things Disney! We’d also plan out our Disney itinerary together! Now that we live in Florida, we still hold smaller Disney Dinners, but instead of annually we’ll just hold one any time before we go on a weekend trip!
  • @minnie_yoga_mama I love the Disney Dinner! That sounds amazing! What would you look forward to the most? We live by the Disney resort in Hawaii and sometimes we’ll go get snacks from there when we’re at the beach nearby. I love their Dole Whip and DD always goes for a Mickey-shaped musubi or shave ice. We’re moving to CA next year and I can’t wait to take her to Disneyland!
  • @aloha_mama Oh where to even begin! Since we’re foodies my favorite part of the Disney dinner is always making some of the fun foods we find in the parks! In terms of the actual trip— I look forward to all of it!! The sights, the churro and toasted almond smells, the anticipation and excitement, the literal magic you can feel, and just making soooo many happy memories as a family! I always look forward to encountering that bit of “Disney magic” that inevitably happens every time we go— whether it’s unintentionally being in the perfect spot at the right time to catch a parade or surprise musical performance traveling by, or happening across Belle walking through right after dropping my ice cream cone so she could comfort me (I was maybe 3??)— there is always a magical Disney surprise that just makes our trip feel more magical!

As a Disney fanatic, it was obvious that we were going to get married in Disney. 💁🏻‍♀️ So of course we had to serve Mickey waffles for our brunch buffet reception! 😋 And after the wedding, I was still hungry, so we got rum dole whips at the Polynesian where we were staying and watched the sunset from the beach over the Grand Floridian before watching the Magic Kingdom fireworks from our balcony. ❤️ We can’t wait until we can bring our babies there and start making memories with them too! Your kids are absolutely going to love making memories at Disneyland when you live there!!
