1st Trimester

Low beta number. Please help ease my mind!

Hi everyone! I am just looking for some success stories or similar situation is. I had a miscarriage in April and had a cycle after that and then this current cycle where I just found out on Friday that I am pregnant. I have a 42 day cycle and my cycles have been very irregular in the past. I am on metformin as well as clomid. I got pregnant on 50 mg and then now when my dosage went up to 100mg.

Anyway, I went for my first beta test yesterday and it came back at 25. According to some pregnancy calculators I am six weeks pregnant but then others will say I am three weeks pregnant. My first day of my last menstrual cycle was August 10, but I literally just got a positive test barely a faint line on Friday (10 PDO). I was testing before that and there were no lines I could see. So I’m wondering if I ovulated later than I thought. When I called the nurse today she said that it was a low number, which makes me nervous. Last time I was pregnant and had a miscarriage at 13 DPO I was at 9.6 on my first beta draw. This time at 13 DPO I am at the 25. So I do feel optimistic. I go for my next blood draw tomorrow but just looking for some positive affirmations, success stories, anything uplifting. I feel cautiously optimistic.

  • One beta number doesn’t mean much other than that you are pregnant. The trend up or down is what matters with betas, so you’ll have to wait for your second number and your doctor’s interpretation to know much. But your test was positive, so that is a good thing!

  • Same comment as prior post, it’s the increase/decrease that matters. If it’s helpful to hear, my first beta for my son was 27 and two days later it was in the 90s. Betas have to start somewhere and you may have tested very early (as I did, I also have long cycles) so your first number is understandably low. Good luck!
