2nd Trimester

Preeclampsia: coated vs non coated aspirin

Hello Moms,
My baby is due 2/10/21.
Was prescribed 162mg of aspirin at 8 weeks due to a history of preeclampsia.
I bought the coated version.
Been taking it for 8 weeks but no sure if I should be taking the plain version instead.
I have put out multiple calls to ask the Dr but his Nurse Practitioners always answer and are very dismissive in their answers.
Any one know if the coated has the same efficacy?

Re: Preeclampsia: coated vs non coated aspirin

  • I would confirm with your doctor at your next visit but if the difference in effectiveness was significant I would think they would have been explicit in the recommendation to take aspirin. I wouldn’t worry, or switch to uncoated if that makes you feel better.

  • I don't have any answer to your question but I do have a question. What brand of aspirin do you take? I was told to start taking baby aspirin at 12 weeks but I haven't because idk what brand to buy. I just know they recommend 81mg.
  • @elbebeninoonina I take aspirin for the same reason, this is my 2nd pregnancy and no one has ever said anything about coated or not. I honestly didn’t know there were 2 kinds. I think as long as it’s low dose it’s fine. @mclove5894 I take the Bayer low dose, but I’ve taken generic in the past and never noticed a difference.
