I did move for 1 year, after university, for Paramedic school.
I do love to travel though haha.
Best thing is probably that overall, people are friendly and want to help each other out.
Worst would be that there is really not much to do.
Also, we keep hitting -56 in the winter lately. So that's not super fun ha.
If someone came to visit...it would depend on the time of year. We have some fun festivals in the summer. And apparently our restaurant scene is decent. In winter, there's a record-breaking snow maze nearby that I've been wanting to check out. And of course skating and tobogganing is a fun way to burn some energy. But there really is nothing exciting here 😅
I was born and raised in Raleigh, NC. I went to undergrad and grad school there too (Go Pack!) I moved about an hour west of there 4 years ago for work. Since I moved to the tiniest town, I think the last census was something like 6,000 people, I sometimes miss how much Raleigh has to offer for kids and adults. We're still pretty close to some metro areas and the closest city has more restaurants per capita than literally any other city in NC; it is nice to be in a small town with kids though, everything is kid friendly and there are tons of family focused things to do all year.
edited to add that I just read an article that says the nearest city, in fact, has the highest number of fast food restaurants per capita in the nation... maybe not the best options, but a claim to fame nonetheless!
After law school I moved to Minneapolis, because my parents and sister live here now. I expected to stay maybe a year or two and then return South. But it’s really a wonderful city and I’ve had excellent job opportunities here. My husband’s extended family is here,too, so we feel pretty settled. I think if we moved it would be to St. Louis (to be with my brother and his family) or Charlotte (for work and we just love that area). Since my husband is a dual citizen w/ Brazilian citizenship (and our kids will have dual until they’re 18), we do talk about moving to Brazil sometime. But I think that would be more likely to be a small vacation property purchase we visit occasionally, not a forever home.
Philly is known for their cheesesteaks and our "rough" sports fans! However, there are lots of great parks, historical areas, beautiful brownstone houses, museums, and lovely BYOB restaurants!
