Re: September 2021 IUI

  • Introduction/DX: MH and I were diagnosed unexplained a few years ago when trying for our first. We’ve tried for our second on our own for a little bit with no success. So here we are, again, ready for another IUI.

IUI number: This will be #2 this time around. #4 over all.

IUI protocol: We are reducing my letrozole to 2.5mg this time, since I over produced last time. I’m hoping for just 2 mature follicles and to let them get a little bigger than last time before triggering.

R/R (rant/rave): Baseline appointment was on Monday and I miraculously didn’t have any cysts!!! Yay! I’m a little annoyed with the time of my next appointment. Because Monday is a holiday, they aren’t seeing me till Tuesday, which will be CD11, which should be fine. But because everyone is getting pushed to Tuesday, I can’t get in till 8:30. I’ve already taken so much time off of work, I hate that I’ll have to take off even more. And then again, likely that same week, for the IUI. Ugh! Why can’t getting KU be easy!?

Anyways. This will be our last IUI of the year. Since insurance only covers a certain amount every year. But hopefully IUI #2 will be our lucky one like last time! Trying to stay positive this cycle. I’m feeling much more hopeful.

  • So I thought I would give an update, even though it seems no one is joining me here yet… again lol. But my anxious mind just needs to get this out into the universe, and maybe someone who’s lurking can chime in.

I had my scan on Tuesday morning. Everything looked great. Lining was 8.8. 1 mature follicle this time was measuring at 18.5. I did have a couple other smaller ones that could get there, but honestly, I double it (they were both around 12-13). Plan was to wait one more day then trigger Wednesday night and IUI Friday around noon. Good. Good. I was happy with this plan. Everything seemed to be lining up almost exactly like my successful IUI. But… I just had a feeling.

I took an OPK Tuesday night which came back negative. I took one more Wednesday night a few hours before I was supposed to do the trigger shot and it came back nearly positive (and when I say nearly, I mean, it was close, but defiantly not positive). So of course I took another OPK a few hours later, right before I was supposed to do the trigger shot and that one came back positive. I tend to have very fast, strong surges, so that wasn’t a surprise. I went ahead and did the trigger shot like planned and emailed the triage nurse to see if this is going to mess up our timing for the IUI. I still haven’t heard anything back from the clinic and I’ve just been spiraling down deep rabbit holes, reading study after study. I think our timing might still be ok? Blah. Idk.

Anyone have any advice or personal stories they’d like to share? I’m working myself up to calling the clinic in a little bit and I want to be prepared to advocate for myself, since I don’t have much confidence in my clinic.

    *Lurking from September FET thread*

I did read one post online where a woman took the trigger shot after getting her positive opk and the iui worked for her.

I did 4 iuis ( none were successful for me) but I understand the frustration of wanting to make sure the timing is right.

Were you able to contact your clinic?
  • @romeoandjuliet146 My clinic actually called me back before I had a chance to call them. Plan is to stick to the plan...
Thank you for sharing a positive success story. From what I've read, it does sound like it will be ok. We might even have better odds? Idk. Do you know if this other person kept the same time for their IUI or did they move it up sooner?
    Thanks again!

  • @LJMoon6 I hope everything went good with your iui
  • @romeoandjuliet146 Thank you! It did. They don't do a scan before the IUI... I'm not sure if it's because what they see wont change what they do... but anyways. The procedure was just fine. Didn't hurt at all like it did last time. MH's post wash sperm count was only 13.9mil, which seems low, but I do know anything over 10mil is good. So who knows. I'm still staying super hopeful. I'm already started testing lol. Looks like my body is metabolizing the trigger shot must fast this time because at 6dpo my test is negative. Woot. Here's hoping they turn positive in a few days!
    Thanks for checking on me!
