Trying to Get Pregnant

TTA/Benched Week of 8/30

edited August 2021 in Trying to Get Pregnant

***General TW that this thread can and will mention MC and loss.*** This is a place for those of us who have already started TTC, but have hit a roadblock and are delaying for whatever reason. You can express your thoughts, feelings, and frustrations on not TTC and connect with others who are in the same boat. TTC can be a long journey, and having to wait makes it feel even longer -- even if it is for a good reason. I invite you to resurrect this thread at any point in the week if you have something to say. Treat this like an ongoing conversation.

Benched = involuntarily not NTNP/TTC and "out of the game," usually due to medical reasons.

TTA = avoiding pregnancy by using protection or FAM, usually for non-health-related reasons. __________________________________________________________________

Re: TTA/Benched Week of 8/30

  • I just re-introed and this will probably be my home for a few months.

Are you benched or TTA? benched sort of.

What brings you here? Need to talk with my RE about doing another FET. And probably need a bunch of testing first

How long do you think you'll be here? A few months. I’m hoping I can do a FET around Dec/Jan ish.

How have things been going? Not too bad. I’m both excited and nervous to jump into a FET again. But I’m a little worried that my one remaining embryo won’t make it and I’ll have to start all over with eggs that have only gotten older and crappier. On one hand I have great insurance which has some IVF coverage but on the other they are forcing me to use my last embryo before another ER which kinda pisses me off cause I’d rather have had a chance to bank more while my eggs were younger. But I’m grateful for the coverage so I’m thinking I’ll just press on and hope for the best.

    Any R/R/CS/Q? Nope

GTKY: What’s your current favorite song? (doesn’t have to be a currently released song, just what have you been listening to lately!)

I’ve been rewatching old greys lately so listening to a lot of chasing cars. I both love and hate that song cause of greys lol

  • @hanshotfirst77 welcome again! Sorry to hear about the complicated insurance thing with the remaining embryo and the sense of wanting to press on and capture more eggs while they're youngish. I totally hear you on the frustration of having roadblocks thrown up (by your body, by insurance, or by general just medical slow-mo) to moving along with the process. That seems like it's been the story for me more than it has not all through this.

Are you benched or TTA? Benchy-benched till November when I hopefully will do another egg retrieval after my failed (all abnormal) retrieval in July.
What brings you here? As above.
How long do you think you'll be here? As above
How have things been going? They were super sh**ty for a couple of weeks after getting the bad news about my embryos but I've been feeling a little better of late. Partially it's just that I'm super busy in my normal not TTC life, so that keeps me occupied. Partly it feels good to have some sort of plan to latch on to, even if it's a hail mary plan.
Any R/R/CS/Q? Not really. I'm having my first natural cycle in many months, and it is weeeird to feel normal hormones again. Also I think I ovulated super early (day 10????), which i will try not to worry about until I am 1 cycle further away from hormonal birth control and my stims cycle.
GTKY: What’s your current favorite song? (doesn’t have to be a currently released song, just what have you been listening to lately!) You know, this is oddly a tough thing for me to answer. I love music, but I have had a hard time listening to music for some years now for some personal sad family reasons. Music of all sorts is always kind of risky because i feel like I might start crying unexpectedly. Still, I do listen sometimes. I think maybe my last music-listening jag was some very old school Paul Simon.
    History
I am doing this on my own. Left ovary and fallopian tube removed due to cyst/necrosis just after birth. Right ovary and tube still purport to function.
Began TTC in Aug '18 @ age 35
5 or 6 (or 7?!) cycles using frozen donor sperm, ICI. All BFN
    Mar-Jun '19 IUIs, all BFN
Began process of referral for RE in spring of '19, blood tests confirm low AMH (.54) but all else is good.
May '19 HSG shows open tube, but ultrasound suggests fibroids
MRI in June '19 confirms two large fibroids, one growing through wall of uterus
In June '19 I move from California to Oregon, disrupting my insurance, referrals, etc. 5 months spent piecing it all back together.
Nov. '19 attempted myomectomy (vaginal approach) failed. 2nd surgery using laparoscopic method in Jan '20 is successful.
April '20 --> June '20, natural IUIs, all BFN.
July? saline ultrasound and bubble test demonstrate open tube
July '20 clomid cycle cancelled for thin lining
Aug-Oct, 3 femara cycles, all BFN
RE referral. While waiting to set up an appointment Nov-Jan,I continue with natural cycles and ICI, using a known donor, BFN...
Jan '21 more bloodwork, AMH is worse (.30), FSH high albeit not catastrophic at 13.2. hysteroscopy all good. "looks cozy!" says the RE.
Feb '21, injectables (menopur, novarel), iui, BFN (doc said the frozen donor sperm sample had the "best numbers she'd ever seen!")
Mar '21, injectables, iui cancelled due to lack of follicles, converted to at home-insem. BFN
May '21, first IVF round cancelled due to cyst.
July '21 IVF: standard antagonist. 225menupur/225gonal-f/cetrotide/5000u trigger, AFC 7; 6 days of stims. 8 eggs retrieved, 7 mature, 5 fertilize, 4 made it to blast. 3 are 4AB, 1 is 4BB. PGT-A results all abnormal.
Oct '21 somewhat improved AMH (.51) and significantly improved FSH (8.9). Maybe it's all the pills I swallow.
    Dec -21, standard antagonist. 225menupur/225gonal-f/cetrotide/5000u trigger, AFC 5; 11 days of stims. retrieval yields 5, 4M, 2 reach day-6 blast (4AB & 4BB). 1 low-level mosaic (chr. 3 deletion), 1 complex abnormal.
Feb '22 FET (low-level mosaic): CP.
May '22 egg retrieval, lupron flare protocol. HGH priming for 1 month before stims; md lupron 20/20u daily; menopur 225, follistim 225, 10k trigger after 8 days of stims; AFC 10; 13 retrieved; 10 mature; 8 fertilized. All frozen at 2PN for later thaw, grow, and biopsy.
July '22 egg retrieval same protocol: 9 days of stims; AFC 8; 10 retrieved, 8 mature, 4 fertilized and frozen.
Sept '22 ER same protocol: AFC 10; 12 retrieved, 11 mature, 11 fertilized.
From the 3 retrievals, 7 survived to day 5-6 blastocyst, from which I have 2 normal embryos!
Jan 20, Fully medicated FET, baby aspirin, dexamethasone, acupuncture, and as much woo as I can stand (which isn't very much). BFN.
July 23, Natural FET + baby aspirin. BFN.
  • @optimistgardener I’m sorry to hear about your failed cycle. IVF can be such a roller coaster. When I did my ER I was so disheartened with my results. Fx for your next ER! I feel you on this whole process. Sometimes it just plain sucks. I’m glad you’re able to stay occupied it does make things a little more manageable.

  • Are you benched or TTA? Benched

What brings you here? *TW* MC at 8 weeks in August

How long do you think you'll be here? At least one full cycle

How have things been going? This weekend felt a little bit like a turning point mentally and physically. For the first time in two weeks I am starting to feel hopeful again.

Any R/R/CS/Q? We went out of town this weekend for some time away in the mountains and it was so nice. A great reset for this week, I hope!

GTKY: What’s your current favorite song? (doesn’t have to be a currently released song, just what have you been listening to lately!) Good question! That I don’t have a good answer too, haha. I’ll come back later if I think of something.

@hanshotfirst77 That is awesome that you have IVF coverage, but a bummer about the strict rules that come along with that coverage.

@optimistgardener I’m so sorry about your bad news on your last egg retrieval. I have been known to ovulate early like that occasionally, but I have pretty short cycles which might be why. I hope you level out to your “normal” soon!

  • @abjm0325 I’m sorry about your loss. But glad you are feeling better. I know how hard it is to feel hopeful after a loss. Fx you will be off the bench soon 🤞🏻

  • Are you benched or TTA?  Benched

What brings you here? Broken IUD is still stuck. Everything in my city is moving extremely slow. I am still waiting for the 3rd party ultrasound clinic to get me in to see what we're even looking at. If it's found that I need surgery, I may not get it for months or I'll have to go to a different state for it.

How long do you think you'll be here? I have no idea.

How have things been going? Frustrated that the doctor stressed this is a potentially very serious issue, but it doesn't seem to be taken seriously by the people in charge of the next step of my Healthcare.

    Any R/R/CS/Q?

GTKY: What’s your current favorite song? (doesn’t have to be a currently released song, just what have you been listening to lately!)
My 90s Playlist is all I've been interested in listening to for a few weeks.
  • @WashingtonQueen That is so frustrating that the medical community doesn’t seem to be taking your IUD problem seriously! Can your doctor put in a referral for you or do anything to help speed the process along? Crazy that you might have to go to another state for the potential surgery.
