Product Spotlight: Baby Carriers/Slings

Babywearing! For me, this was the hardest item to figure out. There are SO many different carriers and slings, it seems like some work better for newborns and others for older babies... but especially with my second, I discovered that wearing the baby is super convenient, and I was able to get a ton accomplished while he slept on my chest. For my first, I think I just laid on the couch all day for weeks with him on my chest and lamented my perceived laziness, haha.

Anyway, what are we looking at? STM+s, what have you used that you loved? What didn't work too well?

Re: Product Spotlight: Baby Carriers/Slings

  • When doing my registry (which I finally finished, huzzah! I am going to make it public pending a clean anatomy scan, which is tomorrow!) I consulted 3 sources - the "Best of" Babylist guides, Mommyhood101 reviews, and a NICU/L&D/postpartum nurse I follow on Instagram who has hundreds of thousands of followers. If there was a consensus among the three, that's typically the item I'd register for.

I chose to register for a fabric wrap for when baby is littler and a more structured one for when they get bigger. I ended up choosing the Solly Baby and the Lillebrand 6 in 1.

I am curious to see others' thoughts! (And when we move to a private group, I'd love to see everyone's registries! It's been very fun putting together).

  • I'm so jealous of all the first timers that are putting together registries! Mine is so boring because I have so much already from the previous kids, haha. I think I'm going to get a new carrier, though, since my kids have sucked on the same old one we have so much, this new kid deserves better  :D

Anyway, I have a ring sling from https://wildbird.co/ that worked really well with my second until he was about 2 months old - super easy to use, really comfortable... for my first during that early stage, I had a Boba wrap and that thing was super awkward to use, and I always felt like he was going to fall out.

Then when the kids got a little bigger, like around 2 months or so, we started using a carrier from https://babytula.com/. I LOVE this carrier, but it's really the only one I've used. It came with a newborn insert, and that was a little weird to use, so I just used the ring sling until they were big enough for the Tula without the insert. Easy to use, really supportive... when my first was a little over a year, I took him across the country by myself, and just wore him the whole time in airports for hours. Super convenient. I'll be getting another one from them for this kid.
  • @fifilala516 I was just thinking about this, I’d love to see what other people have in their registry. I’m using mine right now just as a placeholder for things I’m interested in but it has way too many things in it, I have like 6 strollers, 3 swings, 4 sound machines etc. so I need to go through it. I’m not a FTM but my son is 8 so there is no baby stuff in the house and it’s been so long I feel like a FTM all over again. Putting the registry together has been much more fun this time, there are so many cool products out now!
  • We have a Baby K'tan and an ErgoBaby 360.  I LOVED the baby K'tan for the first 3 months!  My baby needed to be held/nap on me, and it made it possible to get things done.  It was also super helpful after my C-section to comfortably wear baby.  I am paranoid about hip safe positions for babies in carriers and found it easy to get baby in/out of safely.   After about 3 months, I switched to the ErgoBaby as he was getting too big/wanted to see more of what was going on.  But did not get too many opportunities to use the ErgoBaby since Covid hit.
  • I was obsessed with the baby Bjorn air carrier one with my first. I wore him in it allllll the time.
With my second I did still use it, but I had also picked up a ring sling and gravitated towards that because it was quicker to put on and it was cozier for her while it was cold out.
I did get a second hand moby wrap for her as well but I didn’t totally love it
  • I had just a fabric wrap to use when my son was small, and it was fine, though I think it was a bit hot.
I have a Lillebaby carrier as well, which we used for hikes, dog walking, etc. It was pretty comfortable for both myself and my husband (who is soooo picky).

I also bought a 2nd hand more structured fabric carrier...Hawk was in the name. I really liked that one as it was so easy to put on and comfortable.
  • Are any of you familiar with the Konny Baby carrier? I never know of I can actually trust reviews!

  • I love my Solly wrap and Ergo. excited to baby wear again! We also have a kelty hiking carrier.
