Product Spotlight: Monitors

What monitors are we looking at? Any recommendations from the STM+s?

Re: Product Spotlight: Monitors

  • We have a small house so we can hear him crying form anywhere I just liked to have something to pull up and see if he was settling back down etc. I didn’t want a monitor that was always on because my son was a loud sleeper. We used the Nooie cam and it worked great for that purpose plus it’s affordable. This time around we are buying a new, much larger house so I’m not sure which monitor we will buy but we will likely need something different for 2 babies.

  • I've used the Infant Optics DXR-8 for almost 5 years now. We've been pretty happy with it - never really had range issues, easy to bring to other places for vacation, etc. If you have multiple kids, you can't see both at the same time, but it cycles from camera to camera constantly every few seconds, so that's been fine. Picture is good enough. My only complaint is that the battery crapped out after 2 years, but it was easy to order a new one and replace it, and we keep the monitor plugged in 95% of the time anyway.
  • I have heard great things about the VaVa monitor. I was going to get one, but they were out of stock around Prime Days, so I ended up getting a Vtech one. My priorities were pan/zoom/2 way talk. We don't have a big house, but we have a 4 level split. Plus once baby is in her own room, I'm a heavy/deep sleeper and I don't trust myself to always wake up if I don't have a monitor next to me.

@magalina_h Would you mind explaining why those are your priorities (for the clueless FTMs)?

Pan: more so when baby is in a toddler bed to be able to move the camera around the room.

Zoom: to be able to see them more closely. This is handy both as a baby and toddler. Are their eyes open or closed when they're fussing? Did their pacifier fall out? Etc..

2 way talk: to try to soothe baby without being in the room. Also as a toddler to tell them something without going in their room (lay back down, no climbing)
