My story isn't too exciting. We met on eHarmony went on a couple of dates. A year later we bought a house together and 7 years later came our baby girl.
We met at church. We were in the same small group for a bit. I always thought he was just a guy who's wife didn't come to church or she worked Sundays or something. Then found out he was single. We flirted for a bit. Eventually he chased me across a dark parking lot in the rain to ask me out. Good thing I knew what he was up to or it would have been CREEPY.😂
We met in high school. I was a rising senior and he was a junior. We started dating but I am from right outside NYC- very career focused and liberal. High school relationships don’t last. So he and I agreed early on to have fun and when one of us stopped having fun and being happy we would break up, no hard feelings. Cut to 9 years long distance that included med school, a military deployment to Afghanistan, and two multi state moves and we got married, moved in together, started our careers, got a dog, went through multiple rounds of various fertility treatments and now are expecting our third 17 years after we met.
We met in college. I drunkenly cat-called him one night when I was walking through a friend’s dormitory and he was coming down the hall in nothing but a towel. He showed up at my house with one of my roommates about 2 weeks later and I had to, quite embarrassingly, admit to it and apologize. We dated for 8 years before we got married, and just celebrated our 11th wedding anniversary.
In my defense, my hubby was and continues to be extremely sexy.
My best friend was dating his best friend when we were 14 so naturally we got shoved together as 3rd wheels. It was quite rocky through high school as my parents didn't approve of our relationship and he got into quite a bit of trouble. Things were much better post high school (and my parents finally got over it). Got engaged on our 6 year anniversary and have been married for 12 years now.
We were 14 and 15 years old when we met in 1st period biology class in high school. In true teenage boy fashion, he used to throw little wads of paper at me, much to the appreciation of our teacher. 🤦🏻♀️ Finally I opened one of the wads to find out he was actually writing me cute little messages! My dad was a teacher at our high school and thought it was soooo funny to tell all of his students if anyone tried to date me, he would “kill them and then fail them.” 😑 But he decided to take his chances! Fast forward 11 years and we’ve left our small town, built our new lives together, currently building a home together, and now expecting our first child, which will be the first baby on either side of our family! We pretty much grew up together, and had our dream fairytale wedding in Disney World in 2016. 💖 I tell hubby now it’s a good thing we still even like each other, let alone LOVE each other since we were literally just kids when we started dating!! 🤣
High school sweethearts, here! Shout out to all the others, we’re usually the minority so I’m totally surprised to see so many!
I was a grade ahead of him but our ages are the same. Our younger sisters were in the same class and were best friends and he would drive my sister to and from soccer practice while I creepily watched from the window. He finally asked me out one night at cheerleading/football practice, like a good Southern boy. We went to college together, got married after graduating, he immediately left for a year-long deployment to Afghanistan, and now here we are 16 years later— moved all over the world, two crazy cats, one amazing DD, and adding another one to the mix in April. I think about how young and dumb we were when we met and wonder what I would think if DD came home and said she was going to marry her high school boyfriend someday 😂
WOW! Yes, so many high school sweethearts! We were NOT, but pretty close....
I met my DH in college, I was a 17 year old freshman and he was a sophomore. Hung out in the same circles, and eventually became really good friends. He is so funny, I never anticipated that I would fall in love my freshmen year and continue that relationship to this day. We were together 10 years before getting engaged (because we were so young to start), and had a 3 year stint of long-distance while I was in graduate school. Cue 17 years later (8 years married), 2 daughters, 2 dogs and 3 states later, here we are! He is currently a SAHD and loving every minute of it!

Our best friends (who were my roommates) were dating each other. When we first met we didn't like each other, I thought he was a tool and he thought I was a b*tch. 2 years later he was stationed in AZ again and we were at a party and I was VERY sarcastic and giving him crap and he thought I was flirting. He made our friends find a way to have me text him, I figured it would be a fun, summer fling and here we are 10 years later. 😁
DH is obsessed with Star Wars and my parents worked on Star Wars so friends introduced us for that reason in college. We were friends for a while before hooking up and then dating.
H and I met in DC at a midseason adult drinking league-sorry, I meant kickball-party. My friends had been going to kickball things but back then I had two jobs so never came with them. I finally got to meet up with them at this bar and he was the one who met us at the bouncer and got us armbands because they let you drink any well drinks for free. Anyway, back then I didn't let guys buy be drinks because I didn't want them to expect anything after, but I got a good vibe from him so when he asked i said yes (and he bought me a NON well drink, lol. Ridiculous). When I got home there was already a friend invite waiting for me on Facebook and he actually called the next day to see if I could hang out. We kept missing each other and finally had a first date a couple months later. The rest is history! Been together 13 years and married 11. And I proposed (technically).
@SmashJam lolol when DH and I moved to DC for his law school we were sooo confused by all the kickball leagues. They eventually became popular in NYC too, but we'd never seen them before DC and were like what is this culture
Crazy the number of high school sweethearts! I don't normally come across this many others!
We met when we were HS sophomores after he briefly dated a friend of mine. We became friends and then started dating that summer (Y2K, 21 years ago!) when we were both 16. He joined the USMC and I went away to college, so we only got to see each other a couple times a year until we got married in 2005. After that between lots of deployments to the middle east and me going away to vet school / internship we were really only able to live together for maybe a total of 4yrs of our first 11 yrs or marriage 😂. Finally in 2016 we got to be together full time again and start working on starting a family, which has been rather slow with this infertility annoying-ness!
My husband bought me - ha! But, really. It was post-college, living in NYC, a friend asked me to go to a charity bachelorette auction for her co-worker and I was like -- go? I want to be in it! Turns out this co-worker was my husband's boss' cousin lol and he was dragged by his boss. There was a mingling session prior to the auction and we chatted and sure enough-- he bid on me and he won! We went on an official first date a couple weeks later.

We met at a bar, he called me a goddess and bought me a drink. I had just called off my engagement. Thought he would be my first one night stand 😂 13 years later, it’s been a wild ride and now baby #3 on the way.
We met in college, we had a class together freshman year but didn't really get to know each other until we were juniors. Then we went our separate ways until the second half of our senior year and finally started officially dating once we graduated - right as I went away for a graduate program for two years. Long distance until I moved back home and we got married a year later!
we worked together and his roommate and my friend were dating. A bunch of coworkers would hang out at DH & roommate's house for parties/after work/etc. anyway, we became friends, the roommate/my friend broke up and then DH sent me some messages on AIM (that makes me feel old, lol) we hung out on our own and then started dating. 15 years later here we are.

I love reading all these stories! And I can’t believe how many of you met your SO in HS!
I met DH after moving to Texas for my masters program, when we were both working at the same TexMex restaurant. We hung out as friends for a while (plenty of drinking and partying, as per the server/bartender culture), hooked up, and then ended up dating. Now we’ve been together almost 10 years (including more than 6 married), and moved to three more states, and are on kid number two. Life is crazy!
Yes, these stories are great! A lot of you have been with your SOs a long time!
I was in the same graduate research lab with H, and we were friends for a few years while we were in other relationships. We got singled up for a while, then kissed after a happy hour about 7 years ago. We both knew immediately that it was the real deal and that we’d spend our lives together.
Re: GTKY 8/24 - How did you and your SO meet?
I'm loving the stories. They are giving me all the feels. 😭
