@doxiemoxie212 I don't think I struggled with my appetite pre-pregnancy as much as you did. But my appetite was suppressed a couple months prior to getting pregnant and honesty, the first four or five weeks of my pregnancy I was not getting hungry. Like I'm fairly certain my "dinner" a number of nights was a glass of wine... oops.
This last week though I've been very similar with the panic hungry. I will go from fine to I need to eat RIGHT NOW. I don't feel like I'm eating a lot of food - just eating more times throughout the day. In fact, I probably need to increase my calories to a more normal level and/or just track that I'm getting minimal a day. I was fully prepared to have your reaction and eat more at each meal.
I feel like kind of a hot mess navigating my first pregnancy. I wish I had had more time to have planned these changes into my life (or had one last hoorah, like during our honeymoon)... but here, I am, reading everything I can on the first trimester, craving a glass of merlot, and needing a nap.
Is pregnancy rage a thing? Because I think I have it lol. I have been getting irrationally angry in the evenings. I was an absolute monster last night, to the point where I had to apologize to my husband this morning. I didn't experience this in previous pregnancies, and it's really outside of my normal repertoire of emotions. I don't know how to deal with this, just hoping it will die down as I get more used to my raging hormones.
Last night I could not stop having hot flashes. Our bedroom was 63 degrees but it felt like 95 every 30 min or so, and then it would feel so cold I couldn't get warm. I literally didn't sleep a single minute so I had to cancel DD's baked egg challenge because it wouldn't have been safe for me to drive I was really upset about it. I think I finally got 30 min this morning, but it was hours after we'd have had to leave, and obviously 30 min isn't really enough. And I don't know how I'm going to get DD to agree to a covid test again to reschedule it - last time the nurse refused to help me hold her head/hands so DD ended up thrashing and got a bloody nose. I truly hate our pedi's office and should switch, but there aren't many options here. Le sigh.
@legallullabies I feel like a hot mess, too, and I’ve read all the books already… You might get an opportunity for a hoorah during the second trimester if you’re up for it (alas sans merlot).
@maggiemadeit My rage is real. I was watching TV with H, and he was commenting on literally every occurrence in the show so that I couldn’t hear what the characters were saying. I wanted to throw something at him, but instead I said as nicely as I could, “can you please be quiet?” But I could tell he was hurt.
@doxiemoxie212 so sorry about your DD’s baked egg challenge and your sleepless night! You might be able to desensitize/ counter-condition your daughter to the nose swab at home. We did that with my DD for taking a temperature. Some testing sites let the parents take the covid swab as well.
I feel so distressed talking about my symptoms which are neither transient nor normal. I went to urgent care yesterday for persistent nausea, vomiting, light headedness, extreme exhaustion (sleeping >18 hrs/day), 2 weeks of rapid weight loss, and low BP (85/50). They assured me I wasn’t dying or dehydrated enough to urgently need IV fluids, but they didn’t have fluids or the ability to draw labs, or even the ability to diagnose me with HG which I would need to go to a lower risk infusion center for IV fluids. In the meantime, we got exposed to covid+ patients in the waiting room.
My OB office has reverted to its line that I’m not their patient until my 8 week intake, otherwise if I’m ill I need to go to the ER. Today I switched OB offices a week before intake because I felt abandoned. The new appointment is on Tuesday. I’m hopeful I can get labs drawn at my new OB office to rule out anemia/nutrient deficiency, make a definitive diagnosis as to whether I have HG, and of course confirm the pregnancy is viable.
@loveanddatadriven Ugh, that's awful... I'm so sorry you're dealing with that, and glad you switched. Definitely doesn't sound like an OB office you'd want to go to
@loveanddatadriven I agree, it's good you switched OB providers. For the nausea and vomiting, try vitamin b6. Ginger tea and peppermint may also help. Other than that, your new office may have to prescribe medication. It's important to stay hydrated during pregnancy and obviously you can't if you're throwing up frequently.
@loveanddatadriven So sorry you've been feeling so terrible! Did you have symptoms this bad when you were pregnant with your daughter? And kuddos for kicking the first OB office to the curb. Ridiculous they wouldn't see you early!
so sorry you are having a terrible time @loveanddatadriven! Hoping you can find some relief very soon!
@doxiemoxie212 sorry you couldn't sleep and had to cancel the challenge! I know you've been looking forward to getting these challenges done (as much as you can anyways)!
@jennykatedvm I had nausea/vomiting until 17 weeks of pregnancy that were on the heavier side compared to my understanding of what’s typical, but I was able to keep working on a modified schedule. I only lost 4 pounds total, and weight gain had already begun by this stage in the pregnancy. I managed in that pregnancy with B6, ginger as @sarahhedger7 suggested.
This time, weight loss shows no signs of stopping. I’m on Zofran all day now, which gives me mom guilt, but I also weighed the risks of not keeping down fluids with the risks of Zofran and made a thoughtful decision.
@loveanddatadriven So sorry you are dealing with this, and sorry you were dismissed and left alone to deal with it. I hope your new OB will be able to help!
@loveanddatadriven I think it's a good call you made on the zofran vs dehydration, so definitely try to cut your self some slack from the guilt. Hoping they'll have some good answers and support for you Tuesday.
@loveanddatadriven that's great you switched doctors, I can't believe that they couldn't somehow get you in earlier so you could "become their patient". I hope you get answers in a few days and the weekend isn't too much of a struggle!
@maggiemadeit my mood swings definitely manifest in the form of rage, lol.
My symptoms have started rearing their head, and I know its early-today I'm 4 weeks! But yesterday (TMI ahead) I couldn't leave the toilet my stomach was so wonky, and today I woke up with a super awful headache-not a sinus ache, or tension headache from sleeping weird on my pillow-an actual headache, with nausea as well! The headache could have been caffeine withdrawal, because I was cut short on my coffee drinking from my wonky tummy yesterday, but I'm not sure. Dr. Google says morning sickness can occur early-but I usually don't get it til 6 weeks like clockwork. H is making fun of me for saying its everything but the baby-he doesn't understand I'm not supposed to have symptoms yet, so I just want to figure out whats causing me to feel gross so I can stop doing it.
My honest to goodness, surely preggo related symptoms are bloat and some seriously bad cramps. It's hard to be comfy at a desk in a chair!
@doxiemoxie212 ugh I feel you! It’s like I have no temperature regulation. Every night I go to bed comfortable or cold, wrap myself in a blanket, then wake 1-3 times in the night in an absolute sweat. I’ll put on the AC but then can only stand it for about 5 minutes before I have to turn it off. Some mornings I end up on the couch and fall back asleep there. Luckily last night I was able to fall back asleep in bed.
Okay, I feel nauseas. It feels like motion sickness. NOOOOOOOO I get motion sick so easily, and it is so awful, but at least with that I always know I can get out of the car and feel better within 5 min. I know every pregnancy is different, but I really thought that since I had ZERO with my daughter that I wouldn't have any with this one. I'm so dumb lol
@loveanddatadriven Sounds like you totally made the right call switching OBs! It’s a good thing you found out now how unsupportive they are so you can find someone who will be there for you when you really need it! My OB told me at my 1st appointment to not worry about nutrition or keeping enough food down right now. She said as long as I drink enough fluids, the baby will be completely fine and to just focus on getting food and nutrition in after the nausea is better after the 1st trimester. Hearing that made me feel much better seeing as I can barely keep anything down— even trying ginger tea made me gag and get sick the other day.
@fameonmain2 I’m having the exact same experience! I was actually nervous because my first pregnancy symptoms were actually chills and night sweats! Every night now I go to bed shivering and bundled up and by the morning I’ve sweat through the sheets! So weird! Hubby says it’s like I’m going through menopause at age 25 😂
@miss_lynn9 I'm feeling the same, just sore boobs, slow GI, stronger sense of smell and exhausted. Had a little nausea last week but it disappeared. The last two times I was pregnant I already had pretty significant morning sickness by now so makes me a little nervous. Feel bad saying that though with so many of you having terrible nausea and vomiting.
@miss_lynn9@jennykatedvm I’m really glad you shared, I feel the same way, but was hesitant to bring it up when so many are suffering. I threw up about a week ago, and since then I have almost no symptoms, just feeling a little tired. I know not every woman gets morning sickness, and that every pregnancy is different, but my default is worry, so of course I am worrying.
The only symptom I do seem to be having is super weird pregnancy dreams. I had them with previous pregnancies too. Last night I was on tour with Miley Cyrus and my kids 😂
@jennykatedvm@maggiemadeit I was also hesitant to bring it up with so many people feeling horrible but every pregnancy is different and it's nice to have someone else to talk to that is going through the same thing. I am also worried that something is wrong because I had morning sickness early in my last pregnancy. It's going to be a long month until I have my MW appointment.
@miss_lynn9@jennykatedvm@maggiemadeit I’m glad you shared, too. I was also feeling worried about sharing about nausea since I thought it might add anxiety to those not experiencing it. This is a safe place to share experiences, worries, wins, and losses even (especially) when they’re different. I’ve got my FX for you that everything is fine!
@maggiemadeit I’d be interested in a “Trippy pregnancy dreams” thread. This morning I dreamed I was a litigator late for court (umm…I’m not a lawyer…), and I was late because I couldn’t squeeze my enormous pregnant body into my work clothes in the courthouse bathroom.
@loveanddatadriven YES! I normally never remember my dreams, so it’s a total laugh to me to see what my brain is up to every night without my knowledge!
My nausea last week was terrible, but I think it was due to jet lag/exhaustion after vacation. I've been really focusing on sleep/food to try and get my body back to where it is happiest. I started drinking a protein shake first thing in the morning and that has gone really well and helped quite a bit. I've also been taking Unisom before bed every night even if I don't need it. Still pretty tired this week, but the nausea has let up a bit. Now its just a mild slow burn of nausea
My boobs still hurt a ton, uterus stretching, peeing, and eating all the carbs. So. Many. Carbs.
@jennykatedvm thanks! No ketones in urine and not dehydrated enough to warrant fluids, so great news that our diligence has been paying off. I’ve got new medications to try. Waiting to hear back on blood tests. I’ll just keep working on eating/drinking like it’s my job.
I've lost all my symptoms! Figure I have about a week before I regret complaining about that, lol. It was nice to have the reminder that I was pregnant though...
I have the most incredibly painful hemmie, and I didn't even have any constipation or straining it's so awful. I got them last pregnancy in 3rd tri from standing, but 1) I'd gained, like, 40% of my bodyweight in 20 weeks, and 2) I lived in NYC so I was on my feet a lot. This is too early for that to be the case, and I'm not like crazy on my feet all day. Ughghghghgh maybe my mom, DH and DD will let me just stay horizontal the rest of the day...
@Ivorytower2 I've been taking unisom for about a week now. The first night I took the full 25mg and was soo groggy the next morning and almost fell on my way to the bathroom. Since then I've been breaking them in half and I seem to be doing much better that way. It is super important to stay hydrated though so if you know you aren't getting enough water during the day, definitely try to increase it!
Was freaking out a bit the last 2 days because I wasn’t feeling as nauseous. Just went to feed the dog and gagged and dry heaved getting her food out. Hopefully this is a good sign?? Ha
@fameonmain2 Probably a good sign lol. Does feel weird to be wishing for the nausea! Still waiting for mine to show up...found the log from my first pregnancy and didn't get consistent nausea until about a week from now, but still makes me nervous.
I bet! I'm guessing we'll feel the same in a week or two. The hyper salivation and sour taste has started, so I'm guessing nausea is close behind. Will feel better after an ultrasound tells me there's really a little bean in there.
I’m so happy I’m not the only one freaking out. I’m 5w today. No nausea yet. I was crying in the car this morning because I’m so anxious about it. The first trimester tango is so bizarre - when you feel sick you want to feel better and when you’re sick you’re freaking out hoping the baby is okay. Ugh.

@Blondesweety444 Unisom is the best. Definitely helped my nausea a lot last time!
@Blondesweety444 So good to hear you’re feeling better!
