1st Trimester

Bacterial vaginosis 1st trimester

Anyone have BV while pregnant in 1st trimester? I’m 5 weeks pregnant and doctor wants to treat with metrogel but I’ve read that it’s contradicted during the 1st trimester.
If anyone has had this, how were you treated? Thanks!!

Re: Bacterial vaginosis 1st trimester

  • @lshap83 I’m almost 11w and was diagnosed with BV at 9w. I used the metrogel and my doc gave me the option of an oral med or the inserted vaginal gel. The gel just seemed easier to me and less likely to cause side effects. Did you ask your doc your questions about the prescription? If your doc knows you’re pregnant then they’re going to be recommending treatment options that support the pregnancy.

  • Thanks! Yes, they know I’m pregnant but I’m
Worried because i read in some places that metrogel shouldn’t be used in the 1st trimester. My doctor said it was fine tho and that there were no risks of birth defects. Glad you know that you safely used it and that your doctor recommended that too!
  • When you pick up your Rx talk to the pharmacist. They will have a good understanding of any warnings like that.

Rather have the meds than BV cause more issues than it should.  I had it in 1st tri and everything was fine.  If you don't trust your doctor (who sees this regularly) then ask a pharmacist,  but I'm in the "trust your doctor" boat on this one.
  • Thanks! harpsteal- did you already have your baby? Also, what did they treat you with for BV? Thanks!
