High Risk Check In - August

August is almost over but whatevs! How’s everyone doing?

Re: High Risk Check In - August

  • I had my first appt on Thursday. I thought I knew everything, but I learned a lot of things I didn’t know.

    - I had a different type of csection (I knew this) with my son that puts me at a higher risk than I thought. They had to check and make sure implantation didn’t happen over the previous scar. If it did I would have to terminate because it’s considered an ectopic pregnancy at that point. They said it would certainly rupture and kill me. 😳 They will continue to watch and check to make sure the placenta isn’t attaching to the scar tissue. But so far they don’t seem concerned.

    - Because of above I am not allowed to have contractions at all due to risk of rupture. I will have a scheduled csection at 37 weeks (if we make it that far, see below)

    - for some unknown reason my body doesn’t like being pregnant. He thinks they have me on the right medication for a successful pregnancy. But starting at 30 weeks I will have to start going in for twice weekly NSTs. He said that his hope is to make it to 36 weeks (which makes me a little nervous that there’s a high likelihood we won’t get that far). I don’t wanna have another baby in the nicu for 90 days. 😢

  • @Blondesweety444 Hopefully with them monitoring you so closely they'll be able to make adjustments as needed and keep you cooking for the full 37wks 🤞🤞🤞
  • Last time around I developed preeclampsia at 32wks that turned into HELLP syndrome and was induced just shy of 35wks. Frustrating because I had zero risk factors and was having a very healthy active pregnancy up until that point 🤷.Good thing I was prepared for and wanted a natural birth, because my platelets were too low to get an epidural if I'd wanted one.
Luckily my midwife practice (that is absolutely amazing) is still willing to manage this pregnancy and just have me consult with MFM as needed. Hoping for a pitocin and magnesium free labor this go round 😁
  • Fingers crossed for a easy and healthy pregnancy @jennykatedvm!

my MFM mentioned that they typically treat prior preeclampsia patients with baby aspirin in future pregnancies. Have they mentioned this to you? I’m currently on baby aspirin but more because I had clotting issues with my last pregnancy but they weren’t bad enough to need full blood thinners (at least we hope not)
  • @Blondesweety444 Yes! They did mention baby aspirin. I think I start it after 12 weeks. I was just on it for the FET, but my RE stops it after two good betas. There are some newer studies on supplements and special diets too that I plan to ask about. One paper talked about poor diet in the first couple months, way before the preeclampsia actually shows up, potentially being a big factor. There definitely was a month or so when my MS was terrible where all I could stomach was pepperoni or cheese pizza lean pockets 🤣.
  • lol I guess I'm in trouble then because that's all I'm eating right now! whoops!

@Blondesweety444 I was thinking the same thing... :#:p

edited to add: *dirty lurker* sorry not supposed to post here!
  • 😂 With the number of mamas who eat mostly carbs and salt/grease the first few months...90% would have it! Gotta eat what stays down! 😁
