Product Spotlight: Strollers

Let's talk strollers. What are we looking at so far?

For STM+ moms, what have you used in that past that you recommend? What didn't work for you?

I realize that this may be early but (1) it's something to talk about; and (2) if we start getting an idea of what we like now, we'll have time to scope out deals in the next few months with products already in mind. :)

Re: Product Spotlight: Strollers

  • For my first kid, I used one of those travel systems (car seat and stroller) from Britax, but then I bought a Bob jogging stroller ( we have gravel sidewalks here and there in my neighborhood so it was important to get a beefier stroller) and I couldn't recommend that brand more. You can buy an adapter for the Bob to click you carseat to the stroller (I know they make them for Britax, definitely other brands too but not sure which ones).

When I had my second kid, I needed a double stroller, so I bought the City Select Baby Jogger. It was a double-decker style (smaller kid up top, bigger kid on the bottom seat). I thought that would be better than a side by side, since the side by side strollers just looked so wide to deal with. The City Select was good while the baby was in the car seat up top, but then when he was big enough to sit in the upper seat, he already seemed squished in there. Plus, both seats don't recline all the way, which was a problem if I wanted them to nap in the stroller. So I sold that and bought a double Bob. Best stroller ever. It's obviously wider than a regular stroller, but it's not that bad. Plus the seats recline independently and fully, so it's perfect for taking them to amusement parks and zoos and what not.

  • We got the Graco click connect jogger travel system. It was super easy to use and I definitely recommend a jogger for easier turning and terrain. It has real inflated wheels vs the plastic ones. I could also open and close it in 1 step with 1 hand. My only complaint was that it was huge when folded and didn't fit in my little hatchback. I have a bigger car now, so it won't be an issue.

We also have a Quiny stroller that I got free in exchange for my review (I have a friend who does product development for Safety 1st). I loved it! More compact to fit in my car. With this one though, it's a lot more work to open and close it. It also had no cup holder or place to hold my wallet and keys really, so I bought one to add on from Amazon. This is the stroller we used most when my son was a toddler.

I also have a small umbrella stroller that was great for quick trips where we didn't need a lot of stuff. I took it with my when I flew solo to FL with my 4 year old and it was perfect for navigating the airport.

  • We have a Baby Jogger City Mini for my first kiddo and love it! It pushes so easily, is lightweight, and can be folded one handed.  It folds pretty small as well to fit in the trunk of a car.   I did recently buy a Skip Hop stroller organizer to add to the handle so I could have a cupholder and phone storage, and that has been helpful!

I have just started to look at double strollers since the kiddos will be 27 months apart and we will likely need one.  But they all seem so huge!

I haven't made any decisions yet but I am leaning toward the Chicco Bravo Trio Travel System. I've heard great things about the Doona from multiple people, but it seems that once the baby outgrows the car seat component, you can't use the stroller at all. That seems like a waste of money to me.
  • I have the Graco click connect stroller to use along with the car seat, but I might have to upgrade it since I’ll need a new car seat. I also have the City Mini GT which I love and even though it’s 8 years old it’s still in great shape and I plan on using it with baby #3. The wheels can easily go over bumps, gravel and rocky terrain.

  • I have the baby jogger city select. I honestly don’t love it. It’s massive and heavy and takes up 3/4 of my car storage. I also hate the parent console, it’s always sliding down. I do love how it navigates though and that I can add a second seat for this baby (which is currently sold out everywhere)

For my son we had the Graco Click Connect Travel System. We started out with the basic stroller but then I upgraded to the jogging stroller and love it! I love anything Graco, but that's all I've ever used. With the next baby I'm assuming we'll have to get a double stroller.
  • I’ve had the britax b-Agile that I used when I only had one. We also have a double Bob and a Joovy single jogger. We also have one of those double bike trailer strollers. We do a lot of walking.
  • Thanks for sharing!! As a FTM, I’m overwhelmed by all the options for strollers/ travel systems.. appreciate all the info :)

We have a BOB single and two double BOBs. I could not be more obsessed with them. No they are not compact. And they can be a pain to haul around. But I would never want anything different!

ETA: all were bought used. Not trying to show off some massive wealth here 😂 My double wouldn’t fit in my car when we moved back to TX so I left one at my mom’s house. I swear I’m not that bougie
  • We will probably still buy a new stroller for baby as well but I’m still stoked at my free find!
  • @fifilala516 - I used to get the best stuff in Brooklyn too!  We once found a set of China plates which we still use! It has real gold trim.  It was missing one salad plate but that’s it! Most of my furniture (except for beds of course) is curb finds and FB marketplace!
  • @karenmarie9 that’s a great score! We have the Uppababy system and have been overall very happy with it.

When I was 5 mo pregnant with my first, we visited mh cousin who’s youngest was around 2 at the time, so she sent us home with a treasure trove of hand me downs, including an Uppababy car seat. I hadn’t even started looking at stuff, but Uppababy looked like such a good brand I decided just to roll with it. We got the Uppabay Vista stroller to go with the car seat, and knowing it could be a double stroller down the road was a major selling point. I do really like the stroller, and it was really handy for walks because our sidewalks haven’t been paved in decades and are surprisingly rough, and the vista is RUGGED, so that was really good, but it is also HEAVY and getting it in and out of the car is more of a struggle than I really care for. That said, an unexpected highly useful thing about the vista-we got it with the bassinet attachment, and in the first few days at home when I was still really out of commission from the csection, and DD was napping all the time, MH decided to keep her in the bassinet of the stroller and just roll her all around the house. We have a one story, so that made it really easy. At first I was like wth?! But it turned out to be pretty genius. We always had her nearby, and the ride was so smooth we could take her from one room to the next without disturbing her. We got SO MUCH more use out of that stroller in the first few months than I ever anticipated for sure!!

My in laws got an Uppababy Minu for their house and I love it. It is so lightweight, and easy to open and close, so we borrow it whenever we travel. I liked having the ease of the system with the Vista when DD was still in a bucket seat, but 2 years later, I do appreciate the ease and lightness of the Minu more. I don’t think it works before baby can sit up, though.

Side note-when DD outgrew her bucket car seat, we got the Britax One4Life convertible seat. I can not praise this seat highly enough. It is heavy (so not the greatest for travel), but it is SO easy to install, it’s a dream. If you think you may be interested in skipping the bucket seat altogether and getting a convertible, I highly recommend it (in theory it is the only car seat you will need-should cover all car seat life stages).
  • @shinyobjects Glad to know you like the Britax car seat! That’s the one we were looking at.

We thought we were going to go with the Uppababy Cruz but enough people have convinced us to get the Vista. I really don’t plan on having two kids in a stroller at once, but who knows??
  • @fifilala516 I love it! We got the evenflo sonus as our backup/for travel because it’s so light (which is really nice, that is a downside of the Britax-not super portable), and when we were traveling over the summer, fighting with the Evenflo in a rental car I almost had a breakdown over just wanting my Britax! The click tight install system is amazing.

And I am happy with the Vista overall, it’s just heavy and kind of a pain to get in and out of the car, but pretty much everything else about it is great.
  • so I actually just bought the city select from our good friend.  I know others above said they didn't love it.  But i think for the little we actually use the stroller it should be good.  Maybe when the kids are older i'll get a bob, but i've only used the stroller less than 5 times since we moved in February.  We have the bassinet that was gifted to us for our city mini and a travelling case for it to so it just made sense.

I'm debating on selling our single (since the select can be a single as needed) but saw quite a few out there on the market place so i might wait.

The travel systems are the best IMO, just makes everything so nice and simple.
  • @shinyobjects - super helpful info on what else to buy for it!
  • Does anyone have any experience or heard anything about the Mockingbird strollers? I was just reading really positive reviews online and it seems like a cheaper version of the Uppababy vista but would love to hear if anyone has any personal experience w it..
  • I just bought the Doona car seat stroller system. I’ve heard really good things about it and they are sold out everywhere - had to buy it on back order. We’ll also buy another stroller, probably a BOB, that’s more rugged for walks/hikes.
