Wellness Wednesday (and Stridekick challenge info!) 8/4

There was some interest in adding a weekly thread dedicated to healthy habits - eating well, exercise, etc. Personally, I've had way more success maintaining better nutrition and an exercise plan when there are others doing to same. I need to be held accountable! So maybe that's true for you, too. 

Feel free to use this thread to share your wellness plans, comment on what you ate/did that day, share healthy recipes/snack ideas, ask for advice, etc. Let's keep weight gain out of it, too :) 

Also - I'm going to start an exercise challenge for all that want to participate. The Stridekick app is compatible with Apple Watch, iPhone 5s and above, Garmin, Fitbit, and Androids with the Google Fit app. The challenge will start on Saturday, August 7 and will last 2 weeks, and the person with the most steps at the end of that time wins! It's open to the first 10 people (well, 9 now) that sign up.   • Thanks for starting this! I just signed on to the challenge. We'll be in Branson all week and then work starts the next week, so I shouldn't have any trouble getting some good steps in! 😉

  • I joined the challenge, hoping this will get me moving more. I’ve been feeling so terrible that exercise - even just walking - has been nonexistent. 
  • @Lisa3379 - thanks for starting this!!! This week I haven’t gotten as much exercise as I would like.   I definitely have more energy when I do motivate to go to the gym but it’s been so hot lately I’ve been choosing naps over gym.   The challenge sounds fun and motivating!

  • Bumping this up to say the competition starts tomorrow, and there are 4 spots left! 

    As for my healthy habits this week... I could've done better. I walked the dogs a few times, which was great, and felt really good (although my shins are kinda sore - part of the walk is up a pretty steep hill). As far as eating goes, I had a bowl of granola for a snack yesterday, which is SO high in calories! But I crave it like crazy. Then I had a salad for lunch, so I feel like that helped balance it a bit? Haha. Today I want to get a Peloton ride in and I've got a salad with chicken lined up for lunch. 
  • I just jumped in. I have absolutely been a bum lately and could use the extra motivation. Still dealing with nausea so I’m eating anything that sounds mildly appetizing...which isn’t much but luckily salads sit ok. 
    I spend my days chasing these kids as a workout. Next week I’m going to put my exercise bike together and get on that. 
  • @MrsJessS I’m also still dealing with mild nausea, it’s not terrible like before but nothing ever sounds that great or is satisfying once I eat it. Definitely eating way more carbs than pre pregnancy. Just trying to focus more on the quality of the ingredients as opposed to having a perfectly balanced diet. 
  • @elksamm Yeah mine isn’t nearly as bad, but it’s still enough that I am just never hungry. So if something sounds good I eat it. Never ends up actually being satisfying but it’s something 🤷🏻‍♀️ And that’s how I ended up eating two disappointing cheeseburgers this week.
  • Not sure when the challenge starts but I got my 2nd covid shot yesterday and am spending the day in bed. Hoping to get my watch back on by Monday to participate.
  • @MrsJessS I am still in the nausea at times boat as well and dinner always seems to make me feel sick.  I've been trying to add in more protein as meat and eggs are still on my list of rarely tolerated foods.

    @elksamm - I slept a lot the night after both of mine (were in January before I was pregnant though which made sleep easier) and that helped me
  • @elksamm challenge started yesterday but it goes for 2 weeks, so plenty of time! How are you feeling today? 
  • @elksamm - the second dose is definitely no fun!  I was laid up all day when I got it.  I recommend soup and some trashy TV to make it slightly bearable.   Feel better! 
  • @Lisa3379 @karenmarie9 thank you! Thankfully I’m feeling a good bit better today. I didn’t sleep well two nights ago - only 5 hrs of crappy sleep - yesterday I was in bed all day and binged the new season Glow Up. I slept 12 hours last night and the fever/chills are gone. I’m going to take it easy today but might go for a little walk if I feel up for it.

  • The challenge is definitely motivating me so far!  I usually sit in the car while my husband runs in the grocery store for quick pick ups.  Today I was like “I’m coming with- I need more steps!” 
  • @karenmarie9 agreed!  We were outside most the weekend so that helped as well...hoping I can keep it up during the week. 
  • @karenmarie9 @claire54321 Yay! We're having work done on our yard so I've had to take the dogs for walks almost every day, so that's helped for sure. 

    It was my dad's birthday over the weekend, and the boys and I made the BEST carrot cake. It's a good thing I'm getting more active lately, because I am absolutely indulging in leftovers of that later. But I'm doing a salad with chicken for lunch, so it's all good  ;)

  • I finally started the challenge today (I forget to wear my watch) and I did a Barre workout! I definitely feel better when I work out so I hope to keep up with it!

  • @claire54321 it’s so strange. With my first two kids I could go to town on scrambled eggs, any time all the time. Now I have chickens, a million eggs, and zero desire to eat them 😅
  • @MrsJessS I haven't been able to eat eggs both times I was pregnant now and I usually love them.  Pregnancy is just so strange! 

    It has been SO hot and humid here that I've been struggling to go on walks.  Yesterday it was 92 degrees but feels like 106 still at 6 pm!  Hopefully you all live somewhere with more tolerable weather!
  • Great week so far in the Stridekick challenge! There's a close race at the top - less than 2000 steps separates 1st and 4th place!

  • @elksamm. - yay! I was hoping you weren’t still knocked out from covid vaccine.  The challenge is definitely motivating! 
  • Good for you all! I'm so behind!! And working from home just kills it for me .. everything is like 10 steps away!
  • @Limes030 - I’m sure it’s hard! I start a new job next week after almost a year of unemployment.  Being unemployed meant my doggo got lots of walks!  I’m sure my steps will drop a ton next week when I’m once again chained to my laptop! 
  • So not too sure what happened but my steps on Stridekick are no longer accurate and do not match what my Fitbit app says.  All of the sudden today the Stridekick add doubled a bunch of the days steps?!  I will try to update my app and see if that fixes it.🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️
  • @claire54321 - I was so impressed lol!  I just got to the park for a walk and checked the app and was like “OMG there’s no way I can catch up - she’s ahead by 50K!”  

    On a side note- this challenge was super motivating for me.  Definitely found myself tagging along for more night walks with the dog and even running around with the pups at the park! Thanks for organizing @Lisa3379 !
  • @karenmarie9 🤣 definitely not that impressive... I clicked back and it added to random days and does not match up at all now.  Some days it added like 10,000?!  My Fitbit still has all the correct amounts though...should be roughly 94-95000!

    Yeah, it’s been pretty motivating for me, too. Just sucks I had a cold for a few days there! I can set up another challenge to start maybe on Monday? 
  • I finally found my watch and it’s charging now - looking forward to joining! I’m assuming we’ll restart the challenge every two weeks? 
  • I think that’s what I’ll do, @elksamm! I forgot about starting a new one to begin today, but I’ll set one up later today and post the link here, and the new challenge will go 2 weeks starting Monday.
