  • How many kids do you already have, and how old are they? One Son, Parker who will be 4 on August 21

How are your other kids doing this week? Same old - never wants to get out of bed in the morning because he has us at the splash pad every night until 8pm lol. Summer Time!

Rants/Raves: Pretty happy in general with having another boy but after going through the bins of baby stuff, even happier. So much less to buy!!!

Concerns/Questions: Parker doesn't seem to understand the concept of what a big brother is - I'm thinking maybe we need to get some books or something...ideas?

GTKY: are you ready for back to school? / how are your toddlers preparing for the school year? Staying home? Pre-k? Parker will go to Junior Kindergarten in September so I'm excited to say goodbye to daycare payments (need to save moola for Mat Leave)!! We don't get information about what he'll need etc until middle of August. The Ontario Govt just released the school guidelines for the fall. The little kids will return to in class learning. Under Grade 1 isn't going to be mandatory masks.

@makingbacon - We've told Parker but like I said, he's not getting it lol. It's like when we moved in March - wasn't getting it, didn't care, never phased him.

Getting ready to start VPK and 6th grade 😱

    Rants/Raves:
I don’t feel old enough to have a middle schooler 😩

Just need to get the 4yo a backpack, and then everyone’s back to school shopping is done.
  • How many kids do you already have, and how old are they? 1 boy, 2.5 y/o

How are your other kids doing this week? He's a little demon, like all 2.5 year olds. But otherwise doing good lol. Definitely going through a growth spurt because he's eating SO MUCH and eating is usually a huge struggle with him.

Rants/Raves: I really just want to slack off and sleep this week but I got pulled into a new project and have so much work to do :(

    Concerns/Questions: NATM

GTKY: are you ready for back to school? / how are your toddlers preparing for the school year? Staying home? Pre-k? We're just at an all-ages home daycare so nothing really changes for us. I feel like it's probably time to switch him to a pre-school class (he is old for his grade so won't be in kindergarten for two years) but his current daycare is just sooooo convenient. The only downside is there's only one other toddler and she's 9 months younger (but is also my niece so it's nice they get all this time together!). I think I'm gonna ignore it until he can get vaccinated because it seems less risky to have him around a lot of immobile babies than a classroom full of crazy toddlers?

@makingbacon We've been bringing it up to Samson, but he doesn't get it. I don't know if anything I say will really "prepare" him well but I do want to get across the idea that he needs to stop jumping on my belly because a baby's in there. Definitely not making any progress though. He also literally thinks his own name is "Baby" soooooo we have a lot of work to do before February  :D
  • @makingbacon We got a book that my son is loving right now. It is written in the first person, but since my son is young I change all the “I’s” to his name.

How many kids do you already have, and how old are they? One son, Taran, who is 19 months old

How are your other kids doing this week? He’s getting four teeth (molars and incisors), so sometimes crabby, but otherwise good :)

Rants/Raves: I live in northern MN and it’s been so much hotter than normal 😭 (I put up with frigid winters so that my summers are mild…this hot weather is terrible!) and the air has been terrible with wildfire smoke, so it’s been miserable to be outside.

    Concerns/Questions:

GTKY: are you ready for back to school? / how are your toddlers preparing for the school year? Staying home? Pre-k?

I teach, and I have a lot of work to do before I go back Aug 26. T will be starting daycare for the first time (we paid my friend to watch him in our home the last year and a half). I’m pretty nervous. I also am not sure we even have a daycare spot for him, as everywhere in my tiny town is shortstaffed.

  • How many kids do you already have, and how old are they? 1 daughter, 5 years old

How are your other kids doing this week?
She’s doing so good. We’ve been out of our normal routine since I’ve been laid up with first trimester symptoms and are finally getting back to “normal” as I’m starting to feel better. She thrives on routines and checklists and has become a little screen monster over the last month with my inability to regulate. She knows that we’re trying to break the bad habits to prep for school and since she’s so excited to start school she’s very cooperative.

Rants/Raves: Rant: July has been so incredibly boring with morning sickness and I felt even more horrible not getting anything done (I also thrive on routines and checklists like my daughter lol). Looking forward to August though because it’s already so much busier and I feel so much better now that I’m 10 weeks along.  Rave: My parents invited us to Germany for Christmas and I’m so excited! We have trips planned between now and then, but this tops it. One of my sisters lives in Boston and my other sister lives in London (husband is only child and we’re estranged from his parents) so I don’t get to see family very often. Hoping things are still open by then. *fingers crossed*

    Concerns/Questions: NATM

GTKY: are you ready for back to school? / how are your toddlers preparing for the school year? Staying home? Pre-k? She starts kindergarten in a couple of weeks and I’m just as excited as she is! It’s been a rollercoaster of a ride trying to get her into this school and I’m so happy we’re finally here. It was important to my husband and I that she be in a Waldorf school and now I can put a huge check on that goal. Looking forward to temporary new found freedom and getting so much done without interruptions. Now I just need to finish back to school shopping. 😬

@makingbacon I follow a YouTuber who has her kids wear underwear with a pull-up over it to bed to help wean accidents. That way they can feel how uncomfortable an accident is since the pull up is just like a diaper that wicks away moisture, but the pull up over top means no mess to clean up. Not sure if that would help? I found that method after our daughter was accident free so not sure how well it works. 🤷🏻‍♀️ The thing that worked for my daughter was reminding her to go potty after she was done reading at bedtime (she reads on her own for 30-45 mins after we put her to bed and when she didn’t go potty after that’s when the accidents happened). So not sure how helpful that is either? As far as telling her, we still haven’t told her or family. I’m waiting until our next appointment at 13 weeks to let everyone in our family know. They can be….judgey….and I’m afraid what they will say on the fact we’re having twins. I know my daughter can’t keep a secret so since we FaceTime them often we haven’t told her either yet. Our daughter is the only grandchild so far in the family.
  • Holy crap, it just dawned on me that I'm a STM now.

How many kids do you already have, and how old are they? One - DD is almost 10mo

How are your other kids doing this week? She's doing splendidly. Babbling away, crawling everywhere, eating Cheerios like they're going out of style. She has playtime on the couch with MH after dinner while I get her stuff ready for bedtime, and it's so cute to hear them giggling and just enjoying each other.

Rants/Raves: Rant - We have a big project at work coming up on September 1st, and one of the offices involved just pulled out for what I'm suspecting is petulant pettiness, but I'm not high enough up on the ladder to do something about it, so I basically just have to deal with it. It's supremely frustrating, and I'm sure y'all will hear me rant about it plenty as this all unfolds.
Rave - We've had a break from the sweltering summer heat this week, and it's been so nice. It was 66F this morning when I went running, and I so badly wanted to go for an extra mile, but alas, I had to get to work.

    Concerns/Questions: Nope

DD isn't in school yet, but I did email the learning center's director (it's a daycare + preschool) to see if they're accepting donations of school supplies, but she hasn't gotten back to me yet. I'm a total nerd who loves shopping for school supplies, so if that doesn't work out, then I plan to donate to the local elementary school by our house.
