Weight Gain

Hi- how much weight have y’all put on? Im up 6 pounds and at 15 weeks 4 days.

Re: Weight Gain

  • I gained 6-7 lbs in the first trimester and now my weight has plateaued a bit.. up about 8 lbs total so far at 17w6d.

  • I am down 7 pounds from pre pregnancy weight. I lost 10 pounds, so starting to gain some back. My appetite is a little better now.
  • I'm up 4-5 pounds at 16w2d, but I was no skinny Minnie pre-pregnancy.  :#
  • I had about 20lbs that I wanted to lose prior to getting pregnant (I had already lost almost 10lbs). Between nausea and lack of appetite my entire 1st trimester, I lost 11lbs. I've gained 1 lb of that back.

With my son, I gained a total of about 20lbs (but I delivered at 34 weeks). I had also lost about 7lbs prior to starting to gain.

  • ugh you all are doing so great! i gained a lb the first trimester and i want to say at least 10 now but i don’t weight myself or look at the scale at the docs haha
  • I've gained 4 lbs and am 17 weeks.  I'm trying to be mindful of not over-snacking!
  • I just weighed myself, and I’ve gained 10 pounds. Meh. I don’t think it’s too much, per se, but I wish it wasn’t so much. Oh well.
  • I’m up 19 lbs and this whole thread doesn’t make me feel good about myself.  I know I posted it another thread but now a whole section dedicated to weight gain is just reminding me I’ve gained too much.  But I dunno maybe this is normal in pregnancy to constantly say how much you’ve gained.  But guess I’m the fatty of the group.  Yay?
  • @karenmarie9 I'm sorry that this thread made you feel bad. I felt kinda weird posting my weight gain too, but I just wanted to contribute to the conversation. Honestly, unless your doctor has said that you've gained too much, I don't really think you should worry about it at all. If you feel like it's too much, you can always try to make changes, but really - eat when you're hungry, and eat things that are healthy for the most part. Indulge when you want to. As long as you are eating decently, I really don't think you have anything to worry about (again, unless a doctor says otherwise). Weight can always be lost after the baby is born. Enjoy your pregnancy as much as you can. You're growing a human.

I'm not comparing myself to anyone because we've all gone through such different experiences so far, let alone we're all just different people to start. Some of us were so nauseated we couldn't keep anything down for weeks, so of course those folks probably won't have as much weight gain so far.

Sending love, friend. Grow that baby, take care of yourself, and don't compare yourself to anyone.  <3
  • @karenmarie20 I echo everything Lisa3379 said. Everyone's bodies are different. Like she said if your doctor is concerned, they'll let you know. I know some women who are normally teeny tiny that gained 60lbs during their pregnancies (both singles), and others with similar builds gaining less than 20. There's no right or wrong, just different.

As long as you're eating mostly healthy/nutritious foods and try to move your body when you can, I say you're doing just fine, regardless of what the scale says. ❤️

  • @karenmarie9 im sorry I didn’t mean to make anyone feel bad with this post! I’ll echo the others that every body is different and our weight gain will be different! My weight shot up in the last couple of weeks and was just curious to see if it was my body catching up since i had lost so much in the beginning from being sick or if it was similar to the others. If your doctor is fine with how your pregnancy is progressing- I would not stress about how you compare to others.
  • It seems counter intuitive to ask everyone to share their weight gain number with no other context but then later tell me not to compare my number to others.  I guess then I don’t understand the point of this thread.
  • @karenmarie9 I’ve probably gained about 15 lbs and I’m only 15 weeks. I had lost weight right before getting pregnant and gained it all right back and a few. My OB was not super happy with my weight gain but I’m just over here trying to survive.
  • @karenmarie9 I mean, I guess the same could be said for HDBD threads  (which we don’t do much of yet, but might later if people are into it). There isn’t any point to see other people’s bumps other than curiosity and maybe some sort of desire to compare? But that’s not for everyone. I’m super unlikely to participate in those because I’m too lazy to bother taking a picture of my bump - I don’t really care all that much (right now, at least). It’s too much of a PITA to take a pic just to post on a forum 😄 So I don’t plan to participate… but if others want to do so and compare, then that’s fine 🤷‍♀️
  • @Lisa3379 - Yup.  And like so many others said we all have different body types and we all struggle with different health issues that may make weight gain or loss different for everyone.  I do think it’s important to be careful how we as women compare ourselves physically.  Sorry to vent and I know this thread was well intentioned.  It’s just important that we realize our health is more than a number on a scale.  It’s a very valid discussion point but needs to have more context than just “what’s your number?”  Again I know this thread was meant to promote a healthy dialogue around weight gain but it needs to encompass more than just the number on the scale.
  • @karenmarie9 I hear you for sure. And while having that context that you mentioned before is something that some of us can include automatically in our own heads while comparing ourselves (if that's what some of us are doing), I can definitely see how including that context in our actual posts can be a lot more helpful to have a productive dialogue about pregnancy health.

Here's a question for all of us: do we want to start a healthy habits weekly thread? Not that it would be focused on weight at all - it would be more about our eating habits and exercise? I know that I could use more motivation in both departments, and in the past, having a group to kind of answer to daily and cheer each other on has been super helpful. For example, there's an app called Stridekick that allows anyone with any fitness tracker (Apple Watch, Fitbit, Garmin, etc) to compete in step count or activity challenges. Anyone interested?
  • @Lisa3379 - I would love to start a weekly positive wellness trend!  I feel like we have all sorts of weekly threads associated with complaining 🤣 but none dedicated purely to positivity or overall health (physical and mental).  So maybe a “Wellness Wednesday” theme- where we talk about what we are doing or focusing on for our physical and mental wellness?
  • @Lisa3379 I'd be up for that!

  • Awesome! I’ll start it tomorrow 🙂👍
  • Just coming here to apologize for being a bit moody and complaining on this post.  I realize now it was a valid question and we should be able to talk openly about all things pregnancy.  I overreacted bc I am sensitive about my weight gain.  I’m sorry again for being negative and if I upset anyone.
  • @karenmarie9 I can understand how it would be triggering when weight gain in pregnancy is always such a sensitive topic but honestly it does vary so so much. With my first pregnancy I lost 17lbs between first and second trimester and then was up 30 pounds overall by the end (so gained 47lbs) my Ob was never worried. With this pregnancy I’m only up 1lb. My point is we will all find weight at different times but I think, especially for  new moms, it’s scary to not be gaining “enough” weight and think they are starving their baby. I remember feeling like that the first time and I believe that is where this post came from.
  • @karenmarie9 No worries! I think it's good for us to feel comfortable voicing our opinions, as long as it's done in a respectful way, which I think was done here. It's an opportunity to have respectful discussions and learn from each other.
Yay?
I’ve gained like 15 pounds! I’m like whatever, this is normal for me.
  • @kcf19 I feel ya! I'm not even keeping track honestly. I let the doctor weigh me and they never mention it.
  • I’m 16w 1d and have lost 15lbs. I had some typical nausea and a bit of morning sickness in the first trimester…there were a few weeks where the only thing I could eat was fruit. I’m so glad to be past that now, but my appetite still hasn’t returned to normal and I get full very quickly. My doctor isn’t concerned though, so neither am I.
  • I am currently 21w2d , I weighted myself as soon as i found out i was pregnant & i was 195 & I am currently 196. I lost 5lbs almost 6 lbs in the first 2 months.
