  • @hkom I love the shopping cart theory that you can judge a persons morals by what they do with their shopping cart. I know that not everyone who leaves a cart out is bad, but you can bet on the fact that I will side eye you hard!!

@Blondesweety444 I totally abide by that theory!  And other similar situations like making a mess in a public bathroom, or not blocking the sidewalk with your trash cans (always leave enough room for a wheelchair, but also a double stroller if you are able!).  I'm sure I could think of other specific examples but don't have the brain power at the moment).  I truly believe it tells you a lot about a person.  These are such simple things, and not doing so makes someone's job/life harder than it needs to be.  If someone can't do something that easy, then they probably disregard others in multiple other ways as well.  Always think about how your actions directly affect other people.  I could go on and on about this lol.

  • @hkom ok I have to admit-- I'm sometimes guilty of the cart thing but only when I'm with my baby. I usually put him in his seat, put the groceries in the trunk then I dont want to leave him alone in the car to put my cart back. I think that's ok. The alternative would be to leave him in the cart while I unpack the groceries then return the cart and carry him back but I am always worried about he cart rolling as I'm unpacking and a car hitting the cart with him inside :(
I make sure to never leave it near a handicapped space and I always put it inbetween parking spots so a car can still pull in or out without hitting it.
And, when I'm alone, I return the cart!

    Don't hate me-- I'm a good person, I swear!

  • Pet Peeve: People who are line cutters in traffic! And the people that let them in!
I can't stand when I'm waiting for a mile in bumper to bumper traffic to finally get to my exit and then see a car try to sneak in. Hell no! You are not getting passed me! But, it makes it 100x worse when the person ahead of you lets them in and they get away with it

  • Pet peeve: when people consistently cancel last minute. I blame cell phones. Too easy to send a cancel text, and not even have to look your cancelee in the eyes.
  • When people sniff their snot. For the love of god get a tissue and blow your dang nose.
  • @winterviolethope ooooh. I’m one of those people who lets in car cutters… I even car cut occasionally, but never ever on purpose. It’s when I’m driving somewhere unfamiliar, and I’m like “oh I’m glad my exit is a couple miles away so I can get by all this traffic” and then realize the bumper to bumper is for my exit. Cue panic.

When I let in cars, I give them the benefit of the doubt and assume they’re in a similar clueless, desperate situation. Sometimes I make judgment calls by how aggressively they are driving. An apologetic wave goes a long way. I’m probably being duped most of the time, though.
  • @thisnthat314 I recommend a good allergist for a more long term solution. :D

@thisnthat314 When I was a kid my step-dad made my brother wear a roll of toilet paper around his neck because he WOULD NOT STOP doing that.  It was hilarious.

When people disregard traffic rules to try to be nice.  Our neighborhood has stop signs like every block, and people are constantly waving others through even though they got there first.  All that does is confuse people.  Yesterday I watched two people try to wave each other through a 4-way stop for like 20 whole seconds after the car in front of me went.  so eventually I just went because they couldn't figure themselves out.

People also will stop their cars on our very very busy and congested main street in order to let a pedestrian cross.  Which technically you are supposed to do at a crosswalk, but a lot of people will try to go around the stopped car, because they can't see the pedestrian and/or are being impatient.  A lot of people have almost been hit this way.  Building on that, while yes, pedestrians are supposed to have the RoW at a crosswalk, do not just step out into the street assuming that cars are going to see you and stop.  People do this also all the time in my neighborhood (and complain about the consequences on our neighborhood FB page).  They all want to believe we live in damn Mayberry where every car will screech to a halt at the mere sight of a pedestrian, but that isn't the case.  A lot of drivers just don't pay attention or don't care, and a lot of them might not be able to see you until you are physically in the road, and then it's too late for them to stop.  Is the principle of you having the RoW worth getting hit by a car?  Not for me. I never ever cross a street unless there are absolutely no cars coming, or if a single car is present and I make eye contact with them and they wave me across.  Two or more cars present and I will not budge.

  • @loveanddatadriven we’ve all been that person when in an unfamiliar area. I’m more referring to people I can tell are being aggressive. I commute to NYC and we have a lot of a-holes around here!

  • Yes to the shopping cart pet peeve!!

One of my biggest pet peeves- people who walk slowly, in groups, blocking the whole sidewalk and don’t move over a bit for a runner to pass them or for someone coming in the other direction. It comes down to the same thing, being considerate of others.
  • People who ask a bunch of questions to be polite or make conversation but then don't retain any of the information and ask me again and again and again. Like, you don't have to ask me - it's okay, really. Please waste neither of our time. Silence is fine.
  • @winterviolethope @loveanddatadriven, I definitely look at cutters license plates before letting them. I'm way more likely to let someone from out of state cut than someone who lives in the county. Sorry for those who are just exploring a different part of the city!
  • I'm pretty calm reading through text filled with typos, and I'm definitely not a grammar or spelling expert, but a couple common errors bug me. Using "loose" instead of "lose." "I hang my keys by the door so I won't loose them." Using apostrophes for plural constructions, such as "I lost hundred's of dollars on that bet."
  • @loveanddatadriven My best friend ALWAYS uses loose instead of lose and it drives me crazy! I’ve corrected her once and it didn’t stick. I don’t want to be an a-hole so I just casually try to slip in the correct spelling into my response. It’s so funny... it’s that one word with her!

  • @winterviolethope I fully agree with bad traffic manners. Lack of blinkers BEFORE someone starts to change lanes is included in that for me.
People standing in walkways or doorways. Full grown adults just randomly stop walking as if they don't know they just went through a doorway and anyone else might be entering the store behind them

Sweet corn. I hate when people rip part of the husk off or pull it down in a grocery store, then put the ear of corn back on the shelf. It dries it out and makes it unsellable. Drives me nuts! Squeeze people!! Squeeze the tip of the corn on the outside of the leaves (husk). If it feels full, and the body of the corn feels full and isn’t too thin, it’s a keeper.

  • @boymom312 I also hate this. So much extra work for the store employees, even if they provide a bin for the husks. Corn is like, 50 cents and ear or less, maybe $1 if you buy local. Just get the corn and if you have a bad one suck it up. Buy extra to cover that loss.

I used to be a grocery cart leaver because of my kids-I do do the leave them in the cart and take it back thing now if the cart return is far away or I'm at a co-op that doesn't have one. I try to park as close to a cart return as possible so that I can put my kids in the car and run the car over in 10 seconds or less without people side eyeing me about leaving my kids in the car.

My pet peeve is people who make rules and don't follow them, or when there are rules and I follow them but others don't. In school settings, this is things like playground rules or dress code (if we don't want to have those rules get them out of the handbook) but also meeting norms. I find that if you don't have buy in on norms and really follow them then everyone ignores them and it gets confusing for newbies to know how to act. I love meetings where norms have been well established and are respected.

Sidenote: If you knew me, you would never guess that I have a rule pet peeve, lol.
  • @boymom312 YES! I grew up working on a farm, picking corn in the summers, and this makes me BONKERS!
