Re: Weekly Check-In 7/15

  • How far along are you?: 15w5d

Upcoming appointments: July 27 for my 16 week appointment (a week late) and cervical length check.

How are you feeling?: I'm actually feeling pretty good now.  Almost as if I'm not pregnant.  Appetite still haven't come back, but I'm able to eat more than before and I'm not as nauseated at night.  I also have much more energy than I did 1st Tri!

Rants/Raves: Rant - we made the decision yesterday to put my senior dog down. Our appointment is for tomorrow afternoon.  He is making multiple messes in our house a day (I cleaned up 2 before 8:30 this morning), and has other health problems that won't get better.  It's gotten to the point that we resent him more than we enjoy him, and he just doesn't seem happy :(

Rave: We leave for MN on Sunday and I'm so excited! It will be a very busy week, but I'm most looking forward to seeing all of my friends and family that I don't get to see very often, especially in the last year+.  Outside of camp, we have plans with someone every afternoon/evening!

    Questions: NATM

GTKY:  Do you have any pet peeves? People who chew loudly; not pulling out into the middle of the intersection when turning left; 4th graders who act like they don't know how to problem solve a broken pencil  :D

  • @magalina_h, so sorry to hear about your dog. That's so rough. But once their quality of life is affected, I believe it's the most humane thing.

How far along are you?: 13w5d

Upcoming appointments: 16 week appointment on August 2

How are you feeling?: Good, actually, knock wood! My boobs still hurt a lot and I have to pee every 5 minutes, but my sleep has been improving thanks to my pregnancy pillow (I went ahead and bought the Snoogle.) I keep refreshing my NIPT results every half hour, so psychologically I am as anxious and impatient as I ever was lol.

Rants/Raves: Rant is that work is really busy and I have a lot on my plate, but we have our long summer break coming up so I am counting down the days for that! Personally, we've also become much busier (like, almost to the levels of pre-pandemic) on weekends, which is both a blessing and a curse.

    Questions: NATM

GTKY:  Do you have any pet peeves? When people ask for an opinion and do whatever the hell they want (although I am guilty of this myself...) and also, NO SHADE at all if you do this, but I personally cannot stand when I see babies out in public barefoot. It's a personal preference thing. I know the little ones especially can't walk, so I get why maybe they aren't wearing shoes, but put some socks on your kid at least! It makes DH laugh at how crazy this makes me. Also...barefoot kids in sprinklers in public parks. Ick. Wear some water shoes!

  • @fifilala516, thanks.  We've been discussing it for months.  We've had to replace flooring throughout our house because he's ruined it - we did waterproof laminate in the living room/kitchen and we have new carpet getting installed next month.  We felt really guilty that we're thinking of putting him down just because he's an inconvenience, but it's started to affect my son and that's where I draw the line.  Plus, after talking to our vet, she reassured me that it's his time and we're giving his life dignity by not dragging out the inevitable to where he's in more pain.

I hope you get your NIPT results soon! Waiting is SO hard! How long is your summer break? Also, LOL to the no shoes/barefoot peeve. I think if it's summer, and baby is not walking/mobile (being carried, in a stroller, laying on a blanket), then no socks make sense since they fall off all the time anyway, but in the winter - at least have some socks or booties on!

  • @magalina_H We have other breaks throughout the year but our big one is in August, and it's 3 weeks, which is very lovely!

Waiting is the WORST. And also, I keep trying to get in touch with the lab about insurance/payment (my doctor told me if my insurance won't cover it - which they probably won't because I'm under 35 and knock wood, low risk - they shouldn't charge me over $250). I keep getting voicemails or a promise that someone will call me back, but they haven't yet.
  • 3 weeks sounds lovely!! I'm very much looking forward to our 3 weeks of fun and relaxation once our camp craziness ends!  Do you have any plans for your break?

My lab sent me a cost estimate as soon as they got my blood sample.  It was $235, but after insurance cleared, it went down to $50 (though I am over 35).

@magdalina.h I’m sorry to hear about your dog. Right before we put our dog down last year, she peed on our leather couch and we knew once she couldn’t control her bladder that her quality of life was poor. It was the hardest thing I’ve had to do ❤️
  • Thanks @kcf19, it is really hard.  We had to the do the same thing with our other dog a few years ago.  It's never easy.

  • @magalina_h We are going away upstate for a few days with my in-laws, who do a big trip every summer. We were supposed to go to Italy last year, but Covid had other plans, obviously! So this will have to do for now. We also have a few day trips sprinkled here and there. We'll be upstate for DH's birthday, which will be nice.

I finally connected with the lab and they told me that insurance is in network! Woo-hoo! So hopefully they'll cover something, if not all.
  • How far along are you?: 14 weeks 5 days

Upcoming appointments: Monday for I think just a routine checkup? Not sure what they do at 15 weeks but assuming it’s measuring my stomach and checking the heart beat and stuff.

How are you feeling?: Anxious since most of my symptoms have stopped. I got my gallbladder out 3 weeks before getting pregnant and that area is starting to bother me so I’m hoping it’s nothing.

    Rants/Raves:

Rant: my daughter hasn’t had a BM for 3 days now, which doesn’t seem like a big deal but it is. Ever since she was born she’s had issues with constipation. We’ve been in an out of the ER for it because it’s gotten that bad. We’ve seen a Gastro specialist. We’ve had X-rays and ultrasounds. When she was 3 we finally discovered Miralax and we literally have to give her it every day once a day in her water. Every time we try to ween off it or stop l, the symptoms start back up again and we end up in the hospital. It has been a God send. But everyone once in a while, like once a year she gets it again. TMI but Usually the only remedy is lots of walks and water and then finally letting her try to go in the bathtub. 🙄 And my son is being a terror and my husbands away on business so I’m dealing with it myself. Luckily this time she hasn’t complained too much of stomache aches (usually they’re unbearable) and I’m hoping it doesn’t get to the point where she starts puking everything up. (Another symptom) 🙏🏼🙏🏼

Rave: I’m really looking forward to my grilled cheese and tomato sandwich for dinner.

    Questions:

GTKY:  Do you have any pet peeves?

Ugh probably too many to name. But recently, parents that don’t discipline their kids. I know “kids will be kids” and all that shit but I’m tired of seeing spoiled entitled brats everywhere. For example, a recent playdate where my son is a few years older than my friends 4 year old. He loves to wrestle. Which is fine. But it gets to the point where he’s not even play wrestling it’s like real fighting. My son kept asking him for a timeout and to stop the game and he wouldn’t and my son’s too polite to really hurt him back since he knows he’s older. (Even though I was telling him to 😆😬) I finally had to step in and say that game is over and if anyone wrestles anyone they’re out of the trampoline, making a general announcement so I wasn’t just yelling at the kid while Mom just sat there. And right after saying it the kid tackled a 2 year old girl, like hard football tackle. So I kicked him out of the trampoline and he was so surprised. Fast forward to us at the icecream place and him and his brother literally picked up the nice bistro tables and chairs they had set up and were just tossing them around while Mom said “No. Stop. Please don’t.” from afar and never got up to do anything. Ugh! Sorry this should have been my rant! 😆😆

  • How far along: 12w3d

Upcoming appointment: I’m currently OOT and get back next Thursday and then I have so many appointments the next few weeks doing genetic testing and ultrasounds.

How are you feeling: I’m finally starting to feel a little better, still don’t have enormous amounts of energy but better than the last two months. Nausea is still there but not as bad.

Rants/Raves: I’m just happy I’m not feeling terrible all day every day.

    Questions: nope

GTKY: one of my biggest pet peeves is when you park further away from a store because you want space to get in and out of you car and someone parks right next to you when there are many other parking spots open.

@magalina_h so sorry to hear about your pup, sounds like you guys are doing the right thing and that he’ll be out of pain soon.

  • @laurabridget, that annoys me too, about parents who don't discipline.  It's really hard for me sometime to turn of my teacher habits when out in public and I see other kids misbehaving.  I'm sorry about your daughter, that's gotta be so rough for all of you.

How far along are you?: 13w/4d
Upcoming appointments: My regular monthly is coming up in a couple weeks 🤷‍♀️
How are you feeling?: Pretty good- started working out again, so I'm sore. Got a little cold and needed a nap the other day!
Rants/Raves: Since I'm about to be in my second trimester, the pressure is on to do everything!! I'm scattered and am feeling a bit overwhelmed and don't know where to start. Budget, declutter, make room for crib, registry, plan vacation... What else!? Seems like a lot when I also have a full time job and a toddler.
Questions: What baby monitor do you all love? I need a non-internet one for traveling. So many of the reviews are mixed..
GTKY: Do you have any pet peeves. Not really... however, I do get annoyed when my husband leaves bottles and cans and spoons in the island sink. (The recycling can is just 5 feet away!) Or anything in the sink main sink too. like, I have to remove those things to do the dishes.. not helpful.

How far along are you?: 14+5

    Upcoming appointments: July 29

How are you feeling?: okay-still struggling emotionally but made my first therapy appt! Feeling somewhat better physically but still dealing with nausea. I do have more energy.

Rants/Raves: I just cut the grass and now my back hurts-it’s too early for that.

Questions: anyone else already making freezer meal lists? and hospital lists. I’m a list maker.

GTKY:  Do you have any pet peeves? Yes but I can’t think of any ATM.

  • @laurabridget ugh, that is so rough about your daughter. I too have had chronic constipation since I was a baby and it’s awful. I’ve gone to the ER twice in my 20s thinking I needed my appendix out only to be told I had to poo!! Miralax is a godsend but I hate doing it in water - can you do it juice for her? Also prune juice helps, even though it is gross.
  • kcf19kcf19 member
@laurabridget ahh! I’m sorry. How old is your daughter? My 4 year old struggles with constipation too. He will hold it at school and although he eats a ton of fruit, his diet could be better. He’s actually had a prolapsed rectum a few times which is scary AF. He loves prunes, baked beans, and chia seeds in his yogurt. He can’t really eat banans even though he loves them. I also give him juice sometimes even though we aren’t usually juice drinkers.
  • How far along are you?: 13 weeks

Upcoming appointments: had one today  don’t have another till August 20th

How are you feeling?: still pretty nauseated but I think I’m moving in the right direction. Exhausted but my Vitamin D was low and that’s probably contributing.

Rants/Raves: baby’s heart rate was great today so that’s reassuring  I guess my rant is at the thought of having a second covid baby. With my first we were 5 months pregnant when COVID came around. I didn’t really know what I was getting into or really have any say in the matter. This baby was an oops or I certainly wouldn’t have made the choice to have another covid baby. I guess I just never realized how traumatized I was by everything that has happened in the last year until I was going to yet another OB appointment alone.

    Questions: not today

GTKY:  Do you have any pet peeves? So so many lol

@fifilala516 when did you get your NIPT drawn? Mine only took 5 days so maybe yours will be in soon. Also with my son I was told insurance wouldn’t cover it since I was under 35 and they covered it entirely. I’d just let it process through insurance and then contact the company for an adjustment if they don’t cover it. It’s what I was told last time.

@limes030 I always suggest coming up with a budget and then declutter and make a registry. It’s hard to know what to register for if you haven’t decided what your budget will be and gone through everything you already have to see what’s needed.

  • @beckylookatherbump I got my blood drawn on Monday and Tuesday morning I got an email saying the lab started analyzing my DNA sample. So fingers crossed they finish quickly!
  • @kcf19 yay for that first appointment! 😊

How far along are you?: 12w1d

Upcoming appointments: In two weeks - another ultrasound. I think it is the anatomy one. We already know the sex from bloodwork but will probably wait for double confirmation before telling anyone.

How are you feeling?: Much better. Nausea seems to have been replaced by headaches but as long as I drink water, eat, and go outside I'm OK. A lot of my symptoms seem to have subsided. I'm just waiting for my energy to come back!

Rants/Raves: Rant - it is has been so hot and humid here. I want to go outside more but it is so miserable out there 😫

Rave - taking time off from work to go to the beach this week 🏖🌊 I can't wait! (Hoping the cool ocean breeze will make it pleasant!)

Questions: Has boob pain/soreness just vanished suddenly for anyone else?

GTKY:  Do you have any pet peeves?

    - people who drive with their high beams on in the city.

    - people who dont set good boundaries but then want to b*tch about other people not respecting what they need (do they expect others to be mind readers???)

    - people with poor spatial awareness in the grocery store 😂

I know there are more but those were the first ones that came to mind!

  • So my doctor's office has the results on the portal and said "your test results are in normal limits" and it says 'within range' for Down Syndrome and Trisomy 13/18 but they didn't include the sex. BUT I called the actual lab processing the test and they said it's still in progress. WTF?!
  • @magalina_h Yes, so sorry to hear about your dog.  That's always a hard decision but it sounds like you have given him a full life and his time has come.  We aren't there yet with our dog, but i fear it's close.  We have accidents 2-3 times a week.  Enjoy MN, it's good weather right now with nice highs in the days but actually cooling off some at night!

@fifilala516 I love the snoogle, i'm going to have to bust mine out again soon.  Thankful for the king size bed and the snoogle.  I love barefoot babies!!

@laurabridget ugh, sorry to hear you're waiting on the BM...that is the worst, and chronic gastro problems are so hard.

@elksamm That is the worst--i feel like peole don't think when they park. They do the same thing at daycare pickup, there are tons of spots and you park next to so it's impossible for me to get my kid in the car? why??

@Limes030  I think we had this Vtech one, although an older model because ours was only $20 and i don't think it vibrates. .  It works great when we travel.

@kcf19 oh man, i'm not ready for lists yet.  that's more of a 36 weeks thing for me.  haha.  right now i'm just trying to get through the day.

@beckylookatherbump I'm sorry to hear you still have to go to your appointments alone.  Is it a practice policy to not allow others? I wonder if you discuss your feelings with your OB they can make an expception.

@lilyfox That sounds early for the anatomy, usually that's closer to 20 weeks.  But exciting for another ultrasound! And enjoy the beach!

Hi Ladies! sorry, I've been a bit absent! Just juggling all the things.  hopefully back and active again.

How far along are you?: 11+6

Upcoming appointments: Next week for my 12 week

How are you feeling?: Feeling better, still low grade nausea and tired but i'm not napping 2 hours a day anymore so that's promising.  Bloat is mostly gone right now too so i've been able to keep my pants buttoned all day!

Rants/Raves: MH painted our other bedroom last night and we got the new bed frame set up.  DS is excited for his new room.  But i'm keeping him in his crib for at least another month.  He's 2 but sleeps great and i'm worried about the transition to a big bed.  (crib does convert to a toddle bed, but we thought why convert since we have a baby coming in January).  DS will get a queen size bed, but mostly so we can still use it for guests when they come.

    Questions: n/a

GTKY:  Do you have any pet peeves? so many, but i guess the biggest would be someone pretending they didn't hear me.  Like i know you heard me, don't be an ass.

  • So my doctor's office has the results on the portal and said "your test results are in normal limits" and it says 'within range' for Down Syndrome and Trisomy 13/18 but they didn't include the sex. BUT I called the actual lab processing the test and they said it's still in progress. WTF?!
So what I got this morning was not NIPT - it was the blood work for other protein markers but all was normal and showed low risk for trisomy. So we wait still.
  • @magalina_h  I'm so sorry about your pup. I have two dogs - one's 12 and one will be 14 soon - and I'm absolutely dreading it when their time comes.

@fifilala516 I laughed at your pet peeve of bare feet and babies. I can't tell you how many times I've retraced my steps on walks because my kids have launched their socks out of the stroller  :D  And yay for your other blood test results, although I know the waiting is so annoying for NIPT. But look at it this way - the more days go by, the more likely you'll get them any minute?

@laurabridget YES to your pet peeve of parents not disciplining kids! That's crazy. I mean, sometimes I struggle with what to allow (kinda like I need to choose my battles) but that's mostly within our own home. If my kids are out in public, I definitely am more strict with them, especially with being rough. My youngest can get "handsy" at school and when I hear that from his teachers, I'm like yup, give him all the time outs for sure if he's like that! And I hope things are flowing better for your daughter. That's so hard. Literally.

@elksamm Glad to hear you are feeling better! And I agree with your pet peeve - especially if they park like an idiot. So annoying.

@Limes030 We really like the Infant Optics DXR-8 (I think that's what it's called). We've taken ours on vacation and to my parents' house so many times. We've had one camera since 2016 and the other since 2018, and they're both running strong. We replaced the screen because it had battery issues about 3 years in, but other than that, we've been happy with that brand.

@kcf19 I'm also a list maker, but haven't quite gotten there yet, haha! I've started making lists of things to do up until the birth, and the months in which I want to do them. But I did freezer meals before both my other kids were born... that's a good idea for a future thread here for sure!

@beckylookatherbump OB appointments alone are such a bummer, I'm sorry. All mine are alone, too, and when I went for my NT, I was a ball of nerves. It makes me sad that my husband won't be there for the anatomy scan and our fetal EKG (something we have to do because of IVF I guess). Solidarity, and sending hugs. Maybe you can FaceTime during future appointments? They offered that to me during the NT scan but it just sounded kinda like a pain at the time, haha.

@lilyfox Yes! My boob pain is pretty much gone, and I'm also waiting for my energy to come back. I'm feeling better, like you are, but yeah - more energy would be great (as I sit amidst so many toys without the willpower or energy to clean them up).

@blackhottamales We're also considering transitioning our 2 year old to his toddler bed. He'll be 3 in October, and we've ditched his nap time diaper, so we figured it might be a good time to let him be able to get up on his own when he wakes up to go potty. He's a champion sleeper, and yeah - I'm super scared to rock the boat. I think he'll still sleep fine, but I'd rather not open the flood gates regarding him getting up a million times after putting him to bed at night.

How far along are you?: 15+2

Upcoming appointments: 2nd tri blood draw when I get around to it (probably Monday) and anatomy scan in August sometime

How are you feeling?: Pretty good! Energy slowly coming back, but the nausea is pretty much gone, and I actually did the Peloton the other day after months of inactivity! My butt still hurts, but that's to be expected, haha. And my sex drive is through the freaking roof now, which is ironic, because I had zero interest for so long... and now I have this belly and am feeling less than cute with it. Oh well.

Rants/Raves: I dunno, I feel like I'm just moving along through the days without anything super notable... we're going to the lake next week for a few days and visiting with a bunch of family we haven't seen since the pandemic, so that'll be fun. I love road trips, and I love staying with my in-laws. My boys will see their cousin for the first time in 18 months, and she's right in between both of them in age, so it'll be fun to watch them all re-connect and play.

    Questions: nope

GTKY:  Do you have any pet peeves? I feel like I have a ton, but I'm on the spot and it's hard for me to think! Hmm... one is people cruising in the fast lane and letting people build up behind them. You use that lane to pass people, and yes, you may be going above the speed limit already, but GTFO and let people pass if they want! I remember getting back to the states after some time in Germany (where they really take the passing lane seriously) and getting hella ragey at people camping out in the fast lane.

  • Thanks @Lisa3379 - I was totally looking at the infant optics one.
  • Ugh she finally pooped yesterday!  And TMI it was legit the size of my shampoo bottle and she felt great and was back to normal. So I thought. Last night she had horrible gas pains and couldn’t sleep. We were up till 2am. I tried Pepto, massaging, heating pad. Finally I said to try a hot bath even though she was exhausted. I wanted to take her to the ER because I was scared for appendicitis but my husband is more level headed than me and didn’t want to cus we’ve done it twice before and was told it was gas 😆 Anyway, she threw up in the tub and felt way better, did another BM and slept till just now! Bland diet today it is!
@fifilala516 she hates juice or milk and the only thing she drinks is water. I’ll make her have it with juice sometimes! It’s just crazy she’s my good healthy eater and my son could live off french fries and fried chicken and he’s fine!
Ugh fingers crossed the worst is over and we get back to normal!
  • How far along: 14 +6

Upcoming appointments: Next OB appointment is the 28th to start every other week cervical length checks (yay high risk pregnancy) this week I see hematology to reassure anesthesia and my OB I won't bleed out during delivery

Rants: Understaffing at the hospital I work at leaving me, a pregnant nurse, to try to restrain patients with not enough help while trying not to get kicked in the stomach

Raves: I got an internal transfer at work and starting in late August will transition to an outpatient clinic (no more night shifts, weekends, or holidays)

Questions: None right now (other than why am I so tired but I know the answer)

Pet Peeves: People who don't pick up after their pets

  • @laurabridget have they done a manometry study on her? They do a clean out (lots of laxative) then usually a endoscopy/colonoscopy and then leave a probe in their bottom that measures how well their bowels are moving (if the waves of peristalsis actually move correctly) and then after they get a baseline they let the kid eat and see how the bowel reacts. The probe comes out before they go home from the hospital
