Weekly Randoms 7/5

I’m going to be that rah-rah cheerleader for the group today and say this: for anyone who has introduced themselves/is kinda lurking, please start joining into some conversations! I feel like it’s been pretty quiet around here, and that makes sense with the holiday weekend that just ended, but let’s get some more conversations going! If anyone has an idea for a GTKY (getting to know you) thread, please post it! And feel free to post any regularly scheduled threads if you don’t see it up yet. 🙂

Anyway, how was everyone’s weekend?

Re: Weekly Randoms 7/5

  • We spent the day yesterday at my parents’ house and told our kids about the new baby. My older kid (4.5) is thrilled, and the 2.5 year old was pretty meh, but that’s ok. We had a big water balloon/squirt gun fight and watched fireworks with a bunch of the neighbors. We live in a semi-rural area so the kids were so excited to hang out with neighbors 😂 and they had a sundae station set up so maybe the third dessert had something to do with it. They set off fireworks for an hour and a half because everyone pooled their stashes. It was nuts. But the whole night made me want to move to a neighborhood like that.

  • @Lisa3379 - omg a sundae station sounds amazing!!!!! How fun.  Glad you had a good time.

We went to Sonoma for a quick weekend getaway.  We took the pups and I was DD.  It was super fun.  Even though I couldn’t drink, I ate tons of yummy food!  I definitely am enjoying the no guilt over eating whatever we want.  My husband starts a new job tomorrow and will be working East Coast hours so I’m a little nervous for next week since that means I have to take over the 7AM dog walks/dog park.

I feel ya on this board being kinda quiet!  I’m guilty of checking it a lot and being bummed there’s no new posts but then not being one to create new posts.  As a FTM I’m definitely more on the lurker side.   But I’ll try to add more!!
  • We are in Rhode Island with friends for a few days and it’s beautiful. However DH and I like to do our own thing and don’t like to be beholden to a group. But it’s been fine so far - and if I don’t want to do something, I claim “pregnant lady is tired” and I go nap 😂 I’ve been jealously eyeing my friends’ delicious cocktails, but it’s ok.

We were able to snag a last minute reservation at a popular restaurant last night and had THE PERFECT seat for fireworks on the beach. It was really awesome.

@Lisa3379 if it makes you feel any better, when we told the kids, my 6 year old told me it was going to be hard for me to take care of 4 kids. 😭I was like thanks for the vote of confidence kid! My 4 year old was like..okay, can I go play now? which is 100% his personality and my 2 year old is still oblivious. Balloon fight sounds fun! I need to order some of those quick fill ones. It’s so hot here so that sounds fun.

@karenmarie9 jealous! We went to Napa/Sonoma a few years ago and had so much fun.

We’ve been at the pool all weekend and my poor H is demoing our kitchen 🥴. He also picked up this beer for me. It’s good!
  • Hi all!
My mom and I took my kids to the local carnival/festival thing and it was too dang hot. I really just wanted a sno cone but they didn’t have anyone selling them. Just turkey legs and corn dogs that looked like they had been sitting too long...because nobody wants hot food when it’s 100+ outside.
Going to get sno cones w a friend today instead. And just found out she is pregnant too so I’m super excited. My daughter and her some were born 2 months apart and these babies should be about 2 months apart as well.
Planned on heading back to my house tomorrow, but apparently my gramma had planned that I was driving her to a store Friday (it’s about 1.5 hours and she doesn’t drive on highways) so instead I am going to make a day trip back and forth to my house to water my plants and get some different clothes then come back to my mom’s 😂
I have no plans or friends near where I live so it’s not a big deal and my mom’s yard is better for my kids anyways.
  • Sounds like everyone has had a good weekend!

We have been go-go-go! Yesterday we went to 5 different friend's or family's homes starting at noon and not getting home until after midnight. It was exhausting, but a lot of fun!

Today DH had the day off, so we spent the morning/early afternoon at the amusement park/water park, and then went to friend's house. We stopped for ice cream on the way home and now we're finally just vegging on the couch. 🙌

Tomorrow we hit the pool, and Wed/Fri my son has camp in the afternoon. We're doing a garage sale next weekend, so I have that to get organized and ready this week.

  • @magalina_h - that sound so fun but also I need a nap after reading about your weekend and upcoming plans!!!
  • @karenmarie9 ooh, Sonoma! And yes for the no-guilt eating. I haven't been totally binging or anything, but I had a huge burger last night for dinner and it was AWESOME. And I'm like, there's absolutely nutritional value in this, so we're good! 7am dog walks sound... early. I need to take our dogs out more. They're little and old so getting a ton of exercise isn't of utmost importance, but they'd probably appreciate it.

@fifilala516 I'd love to visit Rhode Island. I've only driven through on my way to Boston but it seemed pretty. That whole New England area seems awesome, actually.

@kcf19 Yes! The big pack of quick-fill balloons! Those things are amazing! We left a ton of tiny pieces of balloon all over my dad's backyard, I felt bad, haha. But it sure beats the old school way we used to do by filling them one by one! Whoever invented the new way is a genius. And are you doing a full kitchen remodel? I'd love to do ours!

@MrsJessS That sucks that it was so hot on your festival day. We're taking the kids to an amusement park on Thursday and the forecast keeps getting warmer for that day, I'm not happy. And yay for your friend! I keep sending my SIL pregnancy vibes (I'm not even sure they're trying right now, haha) because I just think it would be neat to have kids the same age.

@magalina_h Wow, busy week! I'm trying to be busy with the kids this week too because they're on vacation from school this week and I want to take advantage of their time off to do some stuff... but even just the planning makes me tired, haha! Good luck with organizing your garage sale stuff, that's a big job!

So yeah, we're looking to go to an amusement park on Thursday that we've never been to. It's geared toward younger kids, so it seems like it'll be pretty low-key? Hopefully it won't be crowded, and yeah, it'll be a high of 87 that day. Gross. But that's the day my husband could take off work so oh well! I was planning to take the kids to the Jelly Belly factory tomorrow, and my best friend is going to bring her kids too. Her kids are older (10 and 7) but they get along so well with my little guys, it's awesome. And yay for another adult to help me wrangle mine!

  • We are visiting family in nor cal for the next couple weeks. This week we’ll be in Santa Cruz, H has DS at the Boardwalk and I’m just chillin’ at the hotel since I can’t ride any rides and it’s awesome just relaxing by myself.

We told DS(8) about the baby this morning, he was super excited and it was really cute. Starting to feel real! I mean I’m physically reminded all the time (still pretty nauseous 😣) but it’s nice being able to share with others.
  • Like some of you, we also told our boys about the baby this weekend. Our almost 4 year old was really sweet and excited, but also informed us that he only wants a sister and that, no, another brother would NOT be fun.  :#

My mom is coming over to hang with the kids tomorrow so I can run some child-free "errands" (if getting my nails done counts as an errand  :D), and I am SO excited. I love that I have summers off with and can be at home temporarily with the kids, but, man, it is exhausting. Kudos to those of you who stay at home full time!
  • I am a little bit jealous of your nail appointment! @felix08 I have had some moments of childcare lately due to the show and have seriously entertained how I could possibly squeeze in the nail salon... :/

  • Just saying. I'm here. Just busy with a crap ton of kids.

Hello second tri energy! I’m nesting and want to throw everything in my house away and do capsule wardrobes for everyone. I also swam laps today! It’s been…3 years?
  • Anyone still POAS? I do it sporadically to quell my anxiety and the lines are super faint (I keep telling myself it's the hook effect.) My anxiety over my upcoming NT/NIPT scans (I go on Monday) has skyrocketed.
  • @fifilala516 - I’m not but I think it makes sense the lines would be fainter bc doesn’t your HCG go down after first trimester? Not sure though.

I’m such an anxious blob too though.  I had my blood drawn last Tuesday for the NIPT and check online every hour basically (still says lab processing).  My next appt is next Thursday and I just can’t stop stressing.  I’m moody as heck too!

I think if you dilute them they will be stronger lines. If I’m remembering correctly, the tests only pick up a certain range of hcg.
  • @karenmarie9 yay for everything looking good, and yay for a boy!
  • @karenmarie9 Congratulations!! That's great news!

  • Soo we found out...it’s a boy! It’s crazy...my whole life I thought I would have a daughter (first time momma here). I know I will love our son so much...but I feel kinda sad too because I always had this dream of having a girl. Please no judgement here! Like I said, I will love our son so much and the baby being healthy is the thing I am most concerned about! But those of you who already have boys...tell me some fun things about having boys! Lol! My mom and I just have such a strong connection I always wanted that with a daughter too!
  • @chelswcu12 I have 2 boys (4.5 and 2.5) and I’m trying to think of “fun things about boys”, but I feel like everything I’m coming up with aren’t necessarily things that are particular to boys. Little boys are freaking adorable. I just took my oldest to his first baseball game and I can’t wait to go again with him and his brother, and then start them with hockey… they’re super in Star Wars, and what’s cuter than a 2 year old pretending to be Darth Vader? Even when they wrestle each other it’s cute. Anyway, no judgment here! You’ll absolutely adore your son. :)
  • @Lisa3379 thank you so much! Reading this made me smile! 💙💙💙
  • @chelswcu12 I should probably also add that there are fart sounds aplenty with these guys, but with little boys, you could've guessed that one  :D
  • @chelswcu12 little boys are so much fun (and a little gross 😆). I can't pinpoint anything specific at the moment, but I have loved everything about being a boy mom.

I'm actually a little nervous about having a girl, as much as I was hoping we were having one. I am just not a girly-girl at all, and the thought of raising a prepubescent/teen daughter honestly scares me shitless. Thankfully I have lots of girl mom's in my friend circle to lean on for advice.

  • @chelswcu12 - I know what you mean! I’m a first time mom and this will be our only child. It’s a boy but in my head I’d been imagining a little girl and couldn’t wait to see my husband being a dad to a mini version of me.  But now I’m thrilled as heck to have a little boy.  We were just at the park and I was having so much watching the boys run around and be little terrors.  I keep telling myself “you’re gonna be a boy mom”.   I’m also looking forward to sporting events and lots of outdoor activities (not that girls don’t do those things too!). But congrats on a boy and I totally feel a little bit of the bittersweetness of it.
  • @chelswcu12 -  I always imagined I would have all girls before our almost 2 year old was born!  And now I cannot imagine life being any different.  He is a total mama's boy and saves all the cuddles/hugs/kisses just for me.  One of my favorite things is watching him and my husband "rough house" and just act totally crazy together.   I know none of this is specific to being a boy, but just some favorite things.
  • @chelswcu12 my first is a little boy. I was devastated because I wanted a little girl so bad. I literally cried when I found out he was a boy. Fast forward a year and this little dude is my best friend. That always say that little boys are always all about momma and it’s totally true. I promise being a boy mom is so great that when we found out this one was a girl I wasn’t sure I knew what to do with a little girl anymore.
  • Thank you all so much for the feedback! It makes me feel good! 💙💙💙 grateful for this support group!
  • @chelswcu12 - i am having a boy as well and part of me is really sad because I thought id have two girls - i even had her name chosen! If it makes you feel any better DH and i chose to have a boy during IVF and im still a little sad, lol! I know when he gets here I will love him as much as my daughter but it is just an adjustment to the plans you had! I have heard that boys are so loving and much easier- my DD was not a chill baby so im hoping it’s true!
