Questioning dates

I am not sure if I’m being a crazy first time pregnant woman or if I have my dates all wrong.
I realized today that I’m already starting to get bigger in my belly. My husband said he can see it too. I’ve been eating super healthy and know it isn’t regular weight gain and my scale hasn’t changed for the increased belly size.  Is it possible to be getting bigger at only 4.5 weeks??

I thought my last period started June 2nd, but now I’m wondering if that was implantation bleeding. I took my first test June 28th and it was SUPER dark.

Am I being crazy?  Or am I really bad at determining my DD?  I’ve never heard of anyone showing at 4 weeks. I think I’m going to move my first appointment up a couple weeks.

Re: Questioning dates

  • So even if you were 8 weeks, and definitely being a ftm, you wouldn’t expect to see anything yet. With my first I was very thin and didn’t have anything until 20 weeks, and even then only my husband and I could notice it. With my second it was 16/17 weeks but I also had a little fluff and had extra amniotic fluid with that pregnancy that made me gigantic. Anything that you are seeing at 4 or 8 weeks is very likely just bloat.

  • Ditto everything @paytonpedro said.

You really don’t know for sure until a dating scan. But at this stage, your tummy is bloat whether it’s 4 weeks or 8. And it could look totally different tomorrow because of that. It’s still “showing” if you want, in the sense that it’s tied to baby. But it’s too early for a bump that isn’t 95% gas/fluid.
  • I didn’t think it was an actual baby bump this early, but something else. Maybe I am just retaining fluids in a way I never have before.  Not a fan of looking like I gained 15 lbs in my stomach overnight :(
  • The water retention can be insane! My experience with my first was that it wasn’t constant in the first tri, I’d have multiple days where I felt like my belly was totally sticking out and then I’d wake up and look/feel pretty much normal (which would kinda worry me sometimes). All normal. Staying well hydrated helped me. But I definitely felt really puffy really fast (and am experiencing the same thing now).
  • I would just embrace it! I started wearing maternity shorts and jeans at 7 weeks, no shame. It was so much more comfortable to let the bloat hang out!
  • Thanks for talking me out of my crazy moment!  Lol

I decided I’m still going to try and move my appointment up two weeks. I am in Spain for work the week of the 25th. Would like to get checked out before leaving, opposed to waiting till after. Don’t need any nightmare situations happening alone in Europe. :)
  • I had exactly this experience with my first pregnancy. I gained a lot of water weight in my belly very early on (around 4-5 weeks) and I felt like I was going crazy because my body looked different and so I felt like I was showing, but everyone said it wasn't a real bump yet. They were right that once the baby got bigger my bump felt very different, but still I was so bloated that I had to start buying new clothes early in my first trimester, so it was kind of six of one half a dozen of the other. My rec would be to start investing now in lots of non-maternity clothes that are loose-fitting around your mid-section, if you don't already have much in that style. They'll be useful through mid-pregnancy and then again in the postpartum days. And remember that your feelings are valid and this bloat is a normal part of pregnancy! I still like to think of it as 'showing,' because that extra water is getting your body ready, making room for baby.
  • This is pregnancy #7 (hopefully baby #3)...and I'm pretty sure the bloat appeared at the exact moment of conception this time. Seriously, it was my first pregnancy symptoms this time around! With my first I didn't show at all until around 12ish weeks...maybe more...with my second it was right away

(but I had literally just come off a 10 week loss so I think my body just picked up where it left off)

    END TW

So I'm not surprised. Honestly I pulled out the maternity leggings really early on last time...I will definitely be doing the same this time!
