UO Thursday 6.17

Let’s hear your ridiculous and unpopular opinions.😄

Video calls/meetings are my new favorite form of communication at work - trumping emails, chat, phone calls, in person, anything else I can think of. 1 other person, a whole group, it doesn’t matter, I think it’s so much more efficient.  I don’t know if that’s really unpopular or not but I had literally never done a video call before the pandemic and now I’m a total convert!

  • We had done some video calls prior for years, particularly with our off-site colleagues, but no one really liked being on camera and it was a huge IT headache to get conference room videos working, so naturally it wasn't popular.

I have mixed feelings about video...I like having it for our quick, team daily check ins because it was nice to see faces, and it is good now for 1-1s because my boss isn't located in the US, so I'll never actually meet them in person. 😂  But I don't like it for other meetings, especially the ones that drag on....plus I don't want to dress nice if I'm at home.
  • I usually opt out of our zoom meetings. But to be fair, they’re usually during the week and I’m busy. 🤷🏼‍♀️

My UO is that fruit doesn’t belong in salads. 😝 I don’t want strawberry’s, apples, or anything other fruit in my salad!

    I hate summer.
  • @paytonpedro does that mean actual fruit salad is your worst nightmare? lol I've nearly stopped having fruit salad after one too many pieces of watermelon tasting like nothing but strawberry. I like different fruits, I just hate it all mixed together. The juices end up in everything so a particular fruit like watermelon won't even taste like watermelon.

  • @bows22 I agree that a video call is better than a phone call but not that it's better than in person! Large zoom faculty meetings with 60+ just does not work...
  • @inthewoods23 no I actually love fruit salad lol. But it has to be pretty fresh or it does get weird like you said. I just don’t like fruit mixed with an actual lettuce(or other greens) salad.

My other uo on the topic of salad is I think arugula tastes like a dumpster. 🤢
