Fourth pregnancy here but can’t remember things. When did you start feeling baby with subsequent pregnancies?! My dog pounced on my stomach this morning and it made me wish I could feel baby for reassurance. Hopefully baby is still tucked under pelvic bone.
@kcf19 I also was struggling to remember when I started feeling my first two. I want to say it was shortly after 20 weeks? But that's a pure guess on my part.
@fifilala516 I want to say maybe the middle of 2nd trimester? Only because I tried those belly bands with my regular pants and after a few weeks of those, I got fed up - they just didn't work well for me. Then I bought maybe one pair of larger jeans, because I figured I'd probably wear them for a time postpartum anyway. So yeah, maybe around 20 weeks or so. I say get them now if you want them! Every morning I keep looking at mine hanging in the closet but I'm trying to use my current pants for as long as possible! I know I'll be wearing them in the next couple weeks, though. I really liked the maternity jeans from Jessica Simpson, I don't know if they still sell them but they were the most comfortable for me. I also went with full front panel instead of the side panels. I was always pulling the side panels up, but some people like them. They just didn't work for me.
I was like 13 weeks I think. I always have to take 400mg of progesterone (chronically low for both of my pregnancies now) and that makes me bloat so my clothes stop fitting very quickly. I say wear them whenever you want. I definitely brought out some of my pregnancy leggings this week.
I was definitely in my second term - but i also did the hairband trick where you wrapped it through the button hole and in the button- and I wore leggings until those no longer stretched ! This time im just living in dresses !
I think around 18weeks. I hated maternity pants, so I wore my regular pants throughout my pregnancy, just with a bella band. We'll see this time around.
My husband first felt our daughter kick at 20 weeks, so I probably felt her before then.. My pants button definitely don't want to be closed only at 9 weeks now. Definitely in leggings already- but to be honest that has been my wardrobe for the pandemic 😂
To my STM and more- what do you think is important in picking an ob? So I am going to see my ob on Thursday and she’s nice enough (I only saw her once before for a regular gyno visit). But my fertility doctor was asking me if I definitely liked her and what hospital she’s at and all this other stuff. So I thought I’d ask on what are some key things that impacted your choice? Did you tour a few hospitals? Does that even matter? A part of me figures that the babe will come when it wants so I may just get whatever doctor is on duty? How does all this work lol?
1. What hospital was very important to me because some in my area are better than others for labor. 2. Who will deliver your baby? Is it always that ob (which is the case at mine unless they are on vacation). If not, do you get to meet the other people who may potentially deliver your baby? 3. How they felt on inducing/ epidurals/ etc. 4. What services do they have in office? Ultrasound? Lab? Etc. way easier then having to go to a different lab place. 5. How quickly do they reply? I almost always get a response back within a few hours at my office. overall I picked my Ob because she’s super laid back. She focuses on the important things for pregnancy safety but isnt like over the top. I really appreciated someone more relaxed because I am not. It really helped my anxiety when my sons pregnancy had complications. I was a basket case and she really helped my nerves.
@karenmarie9 I chose my OB because she is affiliated with my medical group (PAMF) and she was well-reviewed. Her patients deliver at Stanford, and there are 5 or 6 doctors rotating all the time, so my doctor delivered my first kid, but another doctor (who I had seen for one check up appointment) was on duty when my second kid was born. It’s just luck of the draw for me. I like my doctor better (I could talk with her for hours, she’s so fun) but when push (literally, haha) came to shove, I was just happy to have someone helping me give birth, haha. The fact that I deliver at Stanford vs other hospitals didn’t occur to me as a big deal, but one thing that sticks out to me is the maternity wing was under construction when my first was born, so I had to share a recovery room for a couple nights. Would I have changed doctors and hospitals knowing that months before? I don’t know. Ultimately it was fine 🤷♀️
@beckylookatherbump - that’s great tips! I got the vibe my fertility doctor was maybe encouraging me to look into other options the way he was probing (specifically around what hospital).
@Lisa3379 - thanks! We went to Stanford fertility and I do all my oncology stuff there so kind of want to stay there as well. The sharing a room would be a deal breaker for me though.
Thanks both! I feel way more ready for my meeting Tuesday.
@karenmarie9 yeah, I’m not sure how it is now, or if that’s an exceptional situation in the Bay Area (I wouldn’t be surprised with the population density if sharing a room for at least a short time is kinda normal) but it might be something to ask about. Luckily my husband was super persistent and they moved us as soon as they could, haha! Otherwise, I was pretty happy with Stanford.
FTM here but I chose the practice because it’s the one my MIL uses and delivered DH! I loved my old doctor but we had moved and it wasn’t feasible to keep seeing him.
In this practice, they require pregnant patients to see all the doctors in the rotation because you never know who is going to be on call when you deliver. So far I’ve only seen my primary doctor but my next appointments are with different ones.
They have ultrasound machines but I do have to go to a separate lab for bloodwork.
This is the first time I’ve ever had a choice really. I picked my hospital because it has a midwifery birth center which is so awesome and not something I had ever heard of. Then I went with the women’s health office that delivers there and let them put me with whatever midwife and luckily I really like the one I saw. They are on a rotation schedule for delivery so odds aren’t that my midwife won’t be the one to deliver my baby but honestly both of my other kids were delivered by doctors I had never met so it’s not something that bothers me.

I liked my first OB well enough but switched after I felt like I was pressured into an induction. I found my second OB on a moms group-he came highly recommended. I’ve since had two more inductions and I just really love how calm he is during my appts and delivery. I’m an anxious person so I need calm. Plus no tears when he’s delivered my babies which is probably coincidental.
@karenmarie9 I know I'm late to the game but for me, it was the hospital, and knowing that hospital had a level 3 NICU. Being AMA, having gone through IVF I just wanted to make sure if my baby needed to be in the NICU, we'd be in the same hospital. I've heard many stories of moms checking themselves out early of a hospital to go see their LO at a different hospital with a NICU.
I'll also be asking my OB if this hospital still will work for me. I had three pushes for my first so there is some worry that the next baby will come fast and we live much further away than we did before.
Anyone who has experienced Round Ligament Pain can tell me what it feels like? I’ve been having sharp pains in the same specific spot on my very lower right abdomen, almost in the groin. I’m trying not to worry but it’s freaking me out!

This sounds exactly like RLP. Is it happening when you move suddenly, or go from laying/sitting to standing up? That's when I feel it the most. Mine is almost up in the hip bone area but moves through my pubic area.
@fifilala516 I've been getting that for a couple weeks. It's just like @magalina_h described - it happens mostly when I move suddenly. Super normal stuff.
@fifilala516 *lurking from Feb* tRe: RLP That sounds accurate to me! I have already had a few instances of it around 5 weeks this time! 😱 It's caused by hormones, mainly relaxin, not necessarily anything super big physiologically going on yet. And it can really catch you off guard!

For me it’s been super painful, but doesn’t last long. From what I remember with my first and third pregnancy it was during first/maybe second tri and both times I had to lay down. Last pregnancy I was at work with a patient and I remember calling my coworker asking her to walk the patient back because I was in so much pain. It also made me nauseous. It lasted maybe 10 minutes? It almost felt like something popped/stretched and then I was fine. I keep waiting for it to happen again! I would get more mild pain with sneezing or moving wrong/too fast also.
