Rants/Raves: enjoying this lovely 3 day weekend! We’ve finally got sunshine and nice weather in the UK 🙌🏻 only took until the end of May
Questions:
GTKY: What is special about the place you grew up? To an outsider (and probably a lot of insiders) not much but it’s just “home” ya know? I love all the memories I have from there and I loved showing DH around
Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: Umm...game controller, I think?
Upcoming appointments: In two weeks
How are you feeling?: Just fine, physically. Mentally, I’m craving alone time, which usually means I’m not caring for myself enough.
Rants/Raves: My folks rented a cabin about an hour out of the cities for later this week; Thursday - Sunday and invited us to join. Looking forward to boating and feeling the hot sun on my Midwestern winter skin.
Questions: N/A
GTKY: What is special about the place you grew up? Nothing except that the house I grew up in is a frequent setting in my dreams because I lived there for so long. Otherwise, I can’t stand that fucking town.
Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: onion? I think
Upcoming appointments: couple weeks
How are you feeling?: Pretty good. Not sleeping great, little guy is just tucked up on my lower left side and I usually sleep on my stomach/ left side and I just can't seem to get comfortable at night. I'm hoping he shifts over soon.
Rants/Raves: I'm loving the 3 day weekend and all the delicious "summer" foods and family time. I'm really craving cold pasta salads lately.
Questions:N/A
GTKY: What is special about the place you grew up? Not a lot, other than it just being home there isn't much to brag about. Most of my family lives here or really close so that is really nice.
Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: Éclair (french pastry with cream and chocolate)
Upcoming appointments: 7th June (16 week check in)
How are you feeling?: Eh other than the HORRIFIC few days of migraines and vomiting I'm actually feeling okay now. It's been a journey though and I've developed a health anxiety because I find it hard to predict how I'll feel from day to day.
Rants/Raves: loving the fact the sun is shining!!! I had a small glass of rosé to celebrate
Questions:
GTKY: What is special about the place you grew up? Nothing other than it was well know for having a nice motorway service station for people traveling to the coast. Oh and a pond. Other than that I have no desire to live there again!
Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: a baked potato
Upcoming appointments: Tomorrow!
How are you feeling?: Ok most of the day. I mentioned elsewhere that I gave in to my achey brakey hips and brought out the giant u-shaped pillow. Move over, DH, I need like 3/4 of the bed now. Also, I fell down the stairs several steps while holding my toddler yesterday. The little guy is fine, but I definitely sprained my right wrist, bruised the top of my right foot, and bruised my tailbone. I'm so glad I already have my OB appointment scheduled for tomorrow to make sure baby's doing ok too.
Rants/Raves: Enjoying the warmer weather and long weekend. After DS's nap today, we're going to my in-laws for a Memorial Day cookout and I don't love parties but I do love not having to cook dinner.
Questions:
GTKY: What is special about the place you grew up? I remember my daycare was within walking distance from the beach with a gazebo. During the summer, we'd sometimes make trips to this beach. To this day, seeing a gazebo gives me major nostalgia.
@mayoduck I’m sure everything is fine, but keep us updated after your appointment and I hope you don’t have to do too much cooking today so you can rest your wrist.
edited because I just reread your post and saw you don’t have to do any cooking today 🥳
Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: apparently her thumb is the size of match head which actually seems huge?!
Upcoming appointments: June 21 for full 20 week ultrasound and then meeting with my OB later in the week
How are you feeling?: Still tired. Just easily exhausted. And if I don't eat often enough the nausea and vomiting will still come. But overall closer to feel normal
Rants/Raves: going home to Seattle this weekend. We moved to Texas only a few months before COVID lockdowns and all my plans to go home frequently were put on hold. I cannot wait to see my mountains and my people.
GTKY: What is special about the place you grew up?
I grew up in Oregon and as a kid raised to hunt, fish, hike, forage, and just basically slide into nature as naturally as a bear, there is no place I love more. It is just beautiful and wild
Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: apparently the size of a hacky sack 😅
Upcoming appointments: not till the 16th
How are you feeling?: Good! The second trimester has been much kinder than the first 🙌🏻
Rants/Raves:
Questions: Best pregnancy pillows to sleep with? I just can’t get comfortable these days.
GTKY: What is special about the place you grew up? I grew up in Hershey, PA... like Hershey’s chocolate. So whenever it rained the town would smell like chocolate because of the chocolate factory! Haha.
@doodleoodle@jackie_dunny Thank you! Still have a sore wrist and tailbone, but had my check-up with the Ob/Gyn today and the baby's heartbeat sounded strong and healthy! She said falls are typically more of a concern at 24+ weeks when the baby is bigger and has less cushioning around it, when there's direct trauma to the abdomen, and/or bleeding/cramping starts within 24 hours of the fall. I check none of these boxes so I'm going to assume my butt adequately cushioned the fall. Who says nothing good can come from regularly eating ice cream?!
@kwalms128 My personal preference is for the u-shaped pregnancy pillows. They take up an ABSURD amount of space and are not cheap, but since I switched sides often, it's nice not to have to lug a pillow around with me every time I changed sides (it's hard enough turning over with a big belly once that third trimester comes!) and having something both in front and behind me allows me to lean back without lying flat on my back, which is sometimes the *only* way I can get any relief from the hip pain. I sleep with the top of the pillow oriented by my feet so I can use my regular pillow under my head instead.
Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: a troll doll
Upcoming appointments: Thursday! I think it will be a pretty boring one, although maybe I can convince him to do a quick scan.
How are you feeling?: Pretty good. My hunger has lessened and I seem to get fuller faster, which is great since I gained so much weight in the first trimester. Night time is terrible for me though. Everything aches and the reflux is in full force, even if I stop eating a few hours before I lay down.
Rants/Raves: My nephew is out of the nicu/hospital! Back story, my sister had boy/girl twins in March. Her little boy developed meningitis from h flu about a month ago and had seizures and had to be intubated. It was pretty scary and we didn't know if he would make it for awhile. But he finally turned the corner and has been doing really well the last few weeks. They finished his antibiotics and he was released early on Sunday! So I got some snuggle time in before we had to head home from the long weekend.
Questions:
GTKY: What is special about the place you grew up? I grew up in East tennessee and currently being in Texas I miss the mountains. Something about the air in the mountains is so calming.
@chartput oh thank goodness he’s home safe! ❤️ my mom and step dad moved to east TN a few years ago and that’s where we got married on their property. It’s STUNNING there
@chartput I'm so sorry your sister and her family had to go through that but I'm happy to hear that he's recovering! That's positive news indeed! ❤️
@mayoduck funnily enough I fell down the stairs too and injured my wrist about a month ago and I was also grateful to my cushiony bum for taking most of the damage! My two dogs came charging down the stairs to "help" me and one of them ended up slipping and falling into me. It was a whole mood 😂
Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: the size of a peach and about as fuzzy
Upcoming appointments: midwife later tonight
How are you feeling?: I dont have the feeling of fainting in the morning while standing, I may be exhausted but a tad better but the heartburn is hell, ever have it so bad that you actually throw up from a burp?
Rants/Raves: my body hurts!!! I misplaced my SI a year or so ago at work and that injury is coming back to haunt me.
Questions:
GTKY: What is special about the place you grew up? I grew up in 3 different states, AK when youngest and I remember not be able to get on the bus because of a moose. Then PA which wasn't a great place but I could roller blade to Don's market or across town to my friends house which is crazy to think about because I passed major roads. Then CT played hockey, met my husband, never knew there were beaches until I was an adult.
Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: a pomegranate
Upcoming appointments: AS next week! I'm nervous
How are you feeling?: Fine, just a bit tired. I wish I felt more movement, it would be reassuring. I feel the occasional flutter on my right side but it's not regular.
Rants/Raves:
Questions:
GTKY: What is special about the place you grew up? I grew up moving every three years, mostly overseas, it was dope (I'm an extrovert). It's going to be weird raising my kids in one place.
@MaximumEffort I have the same issue with heartburn. I would get these gagging fits and realized it is only when my heartburn/reflux is bad. I hate pregnancy 😆
@jackie_dunny I realise CT is tiny as heck but I didn't think of there being beaches worth going to in CT, instead we would go to RI. Even now most of them are private beaches and rocky.
@artsiefartsie I've had episodes where I've been laughing too much from messing with DH and then I start gagging and throw up. I take about 1 zantac a day but forgot them at home yesterday
