Hey ladies. Figured I’d start a discussion for any of us with upcoming vacations while pregnant since we are in the summer months now and any concerns you may have.
Me, DH and DD are traveling to Tennessee next month and I’ll be around 20ish weeks. I know it’s going to be hot so I’m kind of concerned how long I’ll even be able to enjoy myself but I am most definitely looking forward to getting out of here for awhile and letting DD enjoy herself. It’s also about an 8 hour drive so I’m worried that I’ll have to pee a million times. I have never traveled pregnant. Any tips of suggestions? Anyone else going anywhere fun soon?
Re: Vacations!
We've got a couple of camping trips planned for this summer! Nothing super far, some Indy camping though I think that is 4 hours away.
For the actual vacation time, don't overplan and really try to go with the flow. Like have an idea of what you want to do, but try not to pay for anything in advance in case you aren't feeling it for whatever reason. Pregnancy is not a great time for those overloaded action packed vacations, imho. Take a water bottle wherever you go and refill it frequently.
If you are going on any hiking trips, make sure you understand the map and don't take stranger's advice on trails. Easy to them is not going to be easy to you at 20 weeks pregnant (learned that the hard way in Mount templais state park - beautiful scenery, but we were woefully unprepared for *that* level of a hike.)
@madiirosee your comfort level is your comfort level so I can't tell you if you're being unreasonable, but I personally would be fine with short trip 3.5 hours away if you aren't high risk. If you're still in the US, you'll still be able to receive emergency care wherever you are, even though you'll be unlikely to need it (again, assuming you aren't high risk). Talk to your doctor as it gets closer. You can break up the car ride into shorter chunks if you're concerned about sitting for too long and bring all your comfy stuff (pregnancy pillows, blankies, etc.) too.
But only you can decide what you're comfortable with!!!! If it really makes your anxiety spike, your DH might need to go alone.
We are going to road trip to Michigan (18hrs) to see relatives and then make a mini vacay as a family to the upper peninsula. It'll be nice to escape the super heat here and see family that we haven't seen much this past year or so. We planned it before we got pregnant, so we had to adjust the trip a bit and cut some parts out but I think it'll still be fun!
Then we have our babymoon planned for late June in Northern Michigan which I think will be great because the weather is pretty mild up there that time of year
I just drove 6 hours each way by myself to see my parents this past weekend and honestly I was fine (i'm 20w0d today) but the only problem I had was my sciatica acting up so i made sure to stop a few times and stretch!
@kandb4 fun!!!! I grew up in SW Michigan - where are you going in the great Mitten state?!
@madiirosee giiiirl you do you. If your pregnant self wants to have a weekend alone to just be pregnant and watch Netflix I say go for it but of course, it's whatever makes you comfortable! Plus end of August is gonna be HOTTTTTT.
I brought my own pillow but didn’t bring the pillow I put between my knees and night and regretted that. I also ended up buying Unisom while there and taking 1/2 tablet every night because the first two nights I didn’t sleep well at all. Probably because of my dang knee pillow LOL
We are traveling with just us and no kids in late July. We will fly which I’m dreading because I’ll be 30 weeks and probably so uncomfortable! And I won’t be able to pack my pillows because it’s just a weekend trip and we’re only bringing carry on’s! 😭😭😭 we are not letting our kids fly until they’re vaccinated but since it’s just us we’re going to fly. Thank goodness because otherwise it’s like a 15 hour drive and no way am I doing that at 30 weeks!!!!
