Toy storage question

We live in a small condo, so Damien's nursery is small (10x7). We tried to make sure any furniture we bought would be multi-functional but we're not sure where to put his toys anymore. He is old enough to pull out what he wants but thus far we've stored his toys on shelves in his closet. He can't reach them so we're trying to figure out how to make them readily accessible without losing too much space. Any ideas?

Re: Toy storage question

  • We have a three drawer plastic storage box that ended up in the back of our truck the last time we were visiting her. It's old, and has been through 11 grandkids, so the drawers are a little hard for Miles to pull out, but he can do it if he's determined. I'd say it's about as tall as he is right now. We have our in our living room right now because we have a chest upstairs, but if you have space under the shelves in his closet, you could stash it under there. Out of the way but still on his level.

  • We have two heavy fabric baskets with handles...When he is not playing with is toys, which is really not often, they all fit into the little basket.  It is probably about 10" x 20" and about a foot high.  Since it is soft he basically pulls down the side and grabs what he wants or climbs over the whole thing.  Thankfully we do not have too many toys.  It was something I was actually able to restrain myself on.  I have bought him exactly two toys.  Everything else was given as a gift.  I have similar round bin in his room that has stuffed animals.  Eventually, when more toys show up I will just pack some away in his closet and rotate them on occasion.  Too many toys scare me...I had so many toys when i was younger and they were everywhere...I just cannot imagine.  I am sure someday it will creep up on me and we will be overtaken by toys. My sister plans on giving me her son's old toy storage bins.  They were from Land of Nod and will actually be a good addition to his room.

I also use fabric boxes. I've got one in her room upstairs and one downstairs in the family room and occasionally I will rotate them. It's nice having a place to toss toys each night when I clean up.

I did some math of my own recently:

    24oz/day x 365 days = 8760oz / 16 = 547.5lbs

    32oz/day x 365 days = 11680 oz / 16 = 730lbs

This is a rough estimate of how much milk our body has produced this year. Is that not insane??? Our bodies are truly incredible!

  • We have a small square ottoman (Ikea) that we have toys in but it isn't big enough. We don't have room for a bigger one. I like the bags with handles idea. I think we could get a couple of those to keep in his closet. It's a walk-in (lucky kid) so we have room for them there.
  • we use Delta children toy organizer to store his toys and some necessary tools so that it doesn't take up too much space in his bedroom. Absolutely love this toy organizer. Super easy to assemble. Assembly is also very simple. Highly recommend!
