@bows22 LOL I am loving this confession 😂. I'm not guilty of leaving cabinets open, but I do have a weird thing where I never screw lids on all the way. Like I just kind set and barely turn the peanut butter lid. It drives DH nuts.
  • My husband’s a chef so kitchen organization is verrrry important to him. I *might* exaggerate my disorganization in unloading the dishwasher just so he continues to insist on doing it.

And @kgg2241, I’m the same on lids. I also only half open pop tops on soda/beer cans. I just cannot handle a fully open tab. My husband mocks me endlessly for that.
  • Keeping with the kitchen theme :D

For some reason, almost every time DH is the one making dinner, I feel compelled to empty and fill our dishwasher. So I am 100% in the way :joy:

Pretty sure I've gotten a couple "dammit woman!" from him. There's just something with me that I feel so judged for not helping in any capacity with dinner. I can't relax. I think it comes from my mom always complaining that we never helped her with dinner when we were growing up :pensive: Even asking DH if he needs help with anything and he says no I still feel like I'm doing something wrong. Someone remind me to write this one down to talk about to my therapist.

  • @kgg2241 🔥🔥OMG, you and MH are the same!🔥🔥 This is the OtHeR thing he gets yelled at for doing incessantly. We had ants in the peanut butter yesterday because the lid was barely on. It’s so eeeaaaasy to do it right the first time!😩😩😩
  • @b_1029 good for you! A secret day off sounds so wonderful to me!
  • kgg2241kgg2241 member
@b_1029 I don't blame you! Enjoy your day off!
  • @b_1029 I almost didn't want to tell DH either about my bereavement time.  Whoops
@bows22 I was visiting a friend who was oblivious to it, with a YUGE kitchen, so many uppers.  And we were just chilling when I glance around and did a double take like, legit Every. Single. Cabinet.  Was just left hanging wide open.  That was my aha moment like,
    <img alt="Shudder GIFs - Find Share on GIPHY" src="https://external-content.duckduckgo.com/iu/?u=https%3A%2F%2Fmedia.giphy.com%2Fmedia%2FtjwzClJM6fyEw%2Fgiphy.gif&f=1&nofb=1" title="Image: https://external-content.duckduckgo.com/iu/?u=https%3A%2F%2Fmedia.giphy.com%2Fmedia%2FtjwzClJM6fyEw%2Fgiphy.gif&f=1&nofb=1">
This is why they always have to be closed immediately upon access.  There is nothing you need to put back in there you can't re-open it to replace.  I realize it's probably weird that I have a defining moment about this.
  • I feel like mine is really a Bfest, but Imma say it anyway.  It's kitchen related.  It's in my kitchen.

The Cabon Monoxide detector.  I'm assuming it's supposed to be wall mounted.  It definitely does not belong on the counter.  But DH insists repeatedly, he's leaving it on the counter as a reminder to hang it.  I have been moving this stupid thing all over the place for the past FOUR YEARS we've lived here.  I tried to throw it out last year, but he insisted it was very important, so.... I *just* moved it again.

  • All this talk about the kitchen cabinets reminds me of a Dear Prudence letter where the writer is visiting a friend's house and closed a cabinet while the friend was unloading their dishwasher. Friend ends up dropping the plates as she was expecting the cabinet door to be open and wants an apology and for the writer to pay to replaced the plates.

Here's the link for anyone that wants to read it. It's the last letter titled "Bull in a china cupboard"

@BusinessWife omg 😂. Your story is so relatable. Eventually I tell DH that I called my dad to do it. That kicks his butt into action. Can't be shown up.
  • edited May 2021
@kgg2241 I like to tell him I've broken out a powertool. "Hey, sweetie?   The skillsaw is the one I want to use to hang the CO detector, right???"  hahah

Never get between a man and his powertools - but if you try, you darn well better be using them appropriately!  :D

@kgg2241 SAME! So far I have a 100% success rate with involving my dad. I have to pick and choose projects selectively though, DH gets all moody and offended if I go there.

@BusinessWife you are a saint! 4 years??? I could never handle that. DH built a wine cabinet for us once and took over a year. I complained about it to everyone so much friends would actually text me to check in on the progress. Wow 4 years....Still just shaking my head in disbelief

@BusinessWife - MH is the same way, so I've just resolved myself to being the one who hangs the CO2/smoke detectors, changes the air filters, replaces the water filter in the fridge, etc etc. Stuff like that just never crosses his mind to do. I just get so sick and tired of being the naggy wife asking him to do all of those little tasks. I know that it's a partnership and he lives there so he should be doing this stuff too, but to save my own sanity, I'll only ask him once and if he doesn't do it, then I will just so I know it's done.

  • LOL @gardenvariety88  Sounds about right! re: the wine rack.  We won't talk about the status of my new reclaimed hand hewn kitchen island. <<face palm>>
  • @babyodo I have considered it... if I can think of a good place maybe I will.  But the thought also of course crosses my mind to put it somewhere absolutely ridiculous just to teach him a lesson lol It would take him all of 2 minutes...
  • oops, i did a mean thing to the drive by.
  • kgg2241kgg2241 member
@anniemarie887 nah, that wasn't mean. Just the right amount of sass IMO.

@BusinessWife please hang it in a random place 😂. See how long it take for him to notice.

My petty ass would hang it somewhere completely obvious and then put googly eyes on it for that little razzle-dazzle.

  • @anniemarie887 seeing the emoji in the thread title I was this close to posting a gif or something saying cry me a f*cking river.

@babyodo I would 100% join you in having a cinnamon roll. Yum!

@BusinessWife By the way, the CO monitor probably is supposed to be wall mounted, but I had 2 people tell me in the span of a year recently  (after going my whole life without knowing this) that you are supposed to put them as close to the ground as possible. I guess CO is really heavy so it takes awhile to rise up. Scared the crap out of me.
  • @bows22 Yes!  I think you're right about that, and it makes perfect sense.  I think I also remember hearing you don't want to mount them too close to like a boiler or whatever, because you can get a false positive?  But that's a good point.  I think people just mount them up high because they are used to hanging smoke detectors up there, without really thinking it through.
