Upcoming appointments: Outside of having to give blood bi-weekly for my unpredictable thyroid, no major appointments in the near future
How are you feeling?: Pretty good. I had pre-eclampsia with DD so I'm being extra cautious of watching any potential symptoms of that returning this time... I'm slightly paranoid.
Rants/Raves: Sunday was my birthday. DH planned a party, invited my sisters (and families) over to celebrate and planned 3 very large meals. I convinced him to scale back because it was way too much and we are more low key than that. He ended up wearing himself out and was passed out on the couch in the middle of the party by 4pm. It was still a lovely time, but I'm a little bummer that I spent the evening cleaning up the kitchen alone rather than eating the dinner he had planned. It's the thought that counts, right?
GTKY: What is your favorite holiday and why? It definitely used to be Christmas (I love the long season of traditions and celebrations!) but now that my daughter is so creative and interested in Halloween, I might change my mind. This past year she just HAD to be a smoke detector for Halloween and I'm NGL I am still impressed with the costume DH and I pulled off for her. She's already talking about what she wants to be next year and I can't wait to figure out how to make it for her - whatever she ends up deciding!
How are you feeling?: sooo much better. Today I actually got some housework done that had been neglected for far too long. I’m tired but not exhausted and no nausea!
Rants/Raves: my dog/puppy has been so bad on walks lately. She gets frustrated and then jumps all over us, biting anything she can reach. This has happened before but We are getting to the end of our rope. If anyone has any doggy wisdom please share! We haven’t identified any trigger for it which is the worst part. It just randomly happens 😭
Questions: NA
GTKY: What is your favorite holiday and why? I’m definitely in the Christmas camp. I just enjoy all the excitement leading up to it - I also hate winter so it’s a great distraction
@JustAnotherUsername16 bi-weekly blood draws...yuck! Also I love that your daughter wanted to be a smoke detector! Adorable!!
Estimated Due Date/Weeks + Days: 9/11 (19+2)
Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: a hot dog
Upcoming appointments: anatomy scan a week from today! Feeling pretty psyched about it
How are you feeling?: Really really good! I’m feeling less tired, having more energy, feeling more consistent baby movement, and emotionally feeling very positive about just about everything.
Rants/Raves: I finally bought maternity jeans! I got a stitch fix box and specifically asked for maternity jeans and my stylist definitely hit it out of the park. I felt so excited and put together wearing jeans to work today for the first time in at least a month.
Questions:
GTKY: What is your favorite holiday and why? Christmas...particularly Christmas Eve. My parents always throw a really nice party and we do a family-wide Pollyanna that is really fun. I also just love all the decorations and the general feel of Christmas time. I’m so excited to have a little babe for Christmas this year...I feel like it’s going to make it feel even better.
Estimated Due Date/Weeks + Days: 19+5... so close to halfway I can almost taste it 😂
Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: mango
Upcoming appointments: 20w AS on Friday and H can come!
How are you feeling?: pretty decent as long as I stay fed.
Rants/Raves: my nipples are sore. Im still nursing my last babe and they’ve recently gotten super sensitive. Ugh and everything in the nethers is bulging south already. Twenty more weeks 😣
Questions:
GTKY: What is your favorite holiday and why? im enjoying everything more with kids. It used to be Thanksgiving but now Christmas and Halloween top the list. Easter was great this year too.
@muggsd YAY for no nausea! I'm glad you're feeling a little better!
@runningoncookies only one more week until the anatomy scan - how EXCITING! I can't wait to hear all about it in your update next week! Also, Stitch Fix is single handedly responsible for my maternity work wardrobe and I adore them.
@agea I absolutely agree that having kids brings a whole new level of excitement to holidays again! Also, fantastic news that DH gets to come to your AS!! I can't wait to hear all about it!
Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: gameboy
Upcoming appointments: Anatomy Scan this Friday.
How are you feeling?: Feeling pretty good. However I did get my annual changing of the seasons cold and took the day off work yesterday. Normally I would just go to work but with Covid I didn't want to scare anyone with my coughing.
Rants/Raves: our furnace broke on Friday and we had to wait until yesterday afternoon to get it replaced. So it was a cold weekend with a house full of grumpy people. And my son kept insisting that he wasn't cold and didn't need a sweater despite his hands being freezing.
Questions: any recommendations for a dual camera video monitor. With our first we just used the traditional monitor because he was literally beside us all of the time.
GTKY: What is your favorite holiday and why? I love most holidays especially with kids. Probably Christmas now since my son is starting to actually get excited about it.
@deziraywatt I know exactly what you mean about the cold - this allergy season kicked my ass and I ended up staying home for 3 days because even though I KNEW it was allergies, AND have been fully vaccinated, AND still get weekly COVID tested, I still didn't want other people to feel uncomfortable or scare them.
In terms of baby monitors, we just switched to Eufy and absolutely LOVE their baby monitor system specifically as it relates to multiple kiddos on video monitors.
Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: a mango.
Upcoming appointments: Just had my anatomy scan this morning and have to go back in two weeks because the little one was lying on its stomach and refused to turn.
How are you feeling?: Feeling pretty good, feeling like I'm getting bigger every day. Definitely feeling little movements now.
Rants/Raves: Putting this behind a cut because it's complaining about a lack of weight gain and I know not everyone wants to hear it.
I have gained a half pound since the beginning of this pregnancy. I feel like my entire adult life I've been worried about weight gain and the one time I actually want to gain weight, it's not happening. I eat when I'm hungry so I'm not depriving myself or anything. I just don't get it and it's making me nervous because I know the potential complications from not gaining weight are worse than from gaining too much. Baby is measuring on track for now, but I'm just worried if I don't start gaining soon, I'm going to end up with an underweight baby.
Questions: Does anyone know of a group like this for dads? The dad board on TB seems pretty much dead, but I think MH would like to find a community like this.
GTKY: What is your favorite holiday and why? I come from a split family so most holidays since I was a kid are mostly stressful with lots of moving between parents and juggling obligations. I do like New Years, since there's generally no expectation of seeing family, and it's the one holiday where the day/night you're supposed to celebrate is the day before the day off work. Plus, we've built our own little New Years traditions now that are just the two of us and we don't really get that with other holidays.
@JustAnotherUsername16 I love your daughters creativity! I don't think I'd ever have thought of a smoke detector as a costume. That's amazing!
@muggsd Good luck on the anatomy scan on Friday! Hope your little one is more cooperative than mine.
@runningoncookies Good luck on the anatomy scan! I feel like I should get better maternity jeans. I got some from my local Buy Nothing and they're so saggy. But also, I can't imagine wearing jeans in the summer so I don't want to spend a bunch of money on them.
@agea So jealous your husband can go to the AS! Did mine alone this morning and had to resist the urge to open the envelope until I got home.
@deziraywatt I feel so self conscious coughing or sneezing at work now! It's so awkward.
@sawasap Have you asked your OB about weight gain? I didn't start gaining until late 2nd/early 3rd tri with my son. But I was overweight to start with, so my OB wasn't concerned AT ALL. I probably lost 10 lbs in the first tri and I think overall *maybe* gained 10 lbs? My son was born perfectly sized and perfectly healthy.
I'd avoid any research that lumps all pregnancy recommendations into one range. Check in with your OB on what will worry them or when you should worry.
@JustAnotherUsername16 I'm pretty sure my stitch fix stylist was on something when she pulled my box this week. Either that, or she's never been pregnant... I've had such great choices in the boxes I've gotten up until now! this month, I kept one shirt.
Estimated Due Date/Weeks + Days: 19w6d
Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: Hedgehog
Upcoming appointments: Anatomy scan on Friday!!
How are you feeling?: Meh. I slept in a recliner last night because my pelvis/hips/butt are so sore. I ordered a pregnancy belt to see if that helps my pelvic pain. But sitting in that one chair was the only thing that didn't hurt my progesterone injection sites. They're getting worse and worse every week and we're running out of new real estate because of the lumps! I have an appointment with that doctor Friday and I'm hoping she has some tips we haven't tried yet.
Rants/Raves: Rant - see above.
Questions:
GTKY: What is your favorite holiday and why? Christmas. I love watching people open gifts I get for them. I think this year was the sweet spot for DS (he was almost 3) and he was SO excited! That's better than getting my own gifts, honestly.
@marymh80 So long as the baby is growing on track, my OB says she's not concerned. I'm just doing my thing and crossing bridges before I get to them hahaha. I started overweight too, just when I look at charts that take into account starting weight, and I'm still showing under those estimates. But good to know about your son! I'm probably worrying too much, but it's one of the things I'm best at.
Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: I have no idea but she’s moving around an awful lot.
Upcoming appointments: 4/26 for anatomy scan and my husband gets to come with me!
How are you feeling?: I feel like I I can’t eat a full meal already. I have to pee at least 4x a night and I’m already feeling pressure so that’s cool.
Rants/Raves: my son had an exposure to covid from another kid in his preschool class. Rapid tests for everyone tomorrow. Sigh. I want normalcy back.
Questions: none.
GTKY: What is your favorite holiday and why?
Halloween! I love the fall and the decorations and the movies and all things scary. It’s my life mission to give my kids the same sort of feeling towards this holiday. 💀🍁🎃
M14 January Siggy Challenge: Resolution I have no intention of keeping...SHOPPING LESS!
@sawasap lurking from the late sept group but I’ve lost 10 lbs this time so far, I’m a little behind you. But after the OB gave me a talking to about it I looked back at the records from my other two boys and both those times I really only started gaining around week 18. Ended up with two large babies. The OB suggested 3 meals with 2 snacks every day plus adding calories with extra butter, whole milk, etc.
Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: an endive
Upcoming appointments: follow up anatomy scan next week since there were a few things they couldn't see last week.
How are you feeling?: not great. I have some kind of cold/allergies that have been making me feel so run down. I'm coughing and my chest hurts so I got a covid test but it came back negative. I just feel super foggy.
Rants/Raves: The daycare we send our son to is full through September 2022 so we're on the waitlist but likely won't get a spot. There's one across the street but man the sticker shock for infants! $500 a week, ughhh. My son didn't go to daycare until almost 2 so I'm not used to the infant prices. Thankfully he'll go to K in September 2022 so we'll only have about 9 months of overlap.
Questions: none
GTKY: What is your favorite holiday and why? Probably Christmas since it's so magical
@muggsd I'm in a couple of puppy training facebook groups that are helpful. Positive Puppy Training and Support is a really good one for resources!
@deziraywatt I think I have the changing of the seasons cold too. I haven't really gotten sick over the past year (probably from wearing a mask all the time) but this is kicking my butt more than usual.
@sawasap I wouldn't worry too much about not gaining unless your doctor says something. I've been up and down the same 2 pounds for a month so I've basically not gained yet. Since I'm already overweight, my OB said she would like me to gain no more than 15 pounds but if I didn't gain it would be fine.
@deziraywatt sorry for the cold! Ugh. I usually get that every year but (knock on wood) this year has been okay so far.
@sawasap I justified the jeans with I want 1-2 more kids after this one, and will for sure wear jeans in 3 out of 4 seasons! I’m sorry you’re feeling stressed about your weight gain...maybe you will just gain more at the end? I know my OB told me that everyone is so different.
@gutsysneakers I find that I’m getting full way faster now too! But then want to eat again an hour later. Glad I’m not the only one.
Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: Honestly I haven’t been keeping up the the “size of baby” this time around. I did have my 20 week ultrasound today and he’s head down with his feet by my belly button. It explains all my pelvic pain
Upcoming appointments: Had one today! My next one is May 19th which is my birthday 🤣
How are you feeling?: Eh doing okay. Still throw up here and there and tons of pelvic pain this time around
Rants/Raves: Just over that I’m superrr tired during the day and when it comes to night time can’t sleep to save my life 🙃
Questions:
GTKY: What is your favorite holiday and why?
Christmas! It’s been my favorite since I was a kid. I love the decorations, music, baking, food, Christmas shopping and making it “magic” for my 4 year old.
@whatabout2ndbreakfast Thanks! Maybe I'm just one of those people who gains in the second half. I'm loving all these stories about people who didn't gain weight until later and didn't have undersized babies. Also, I can definitely add more butter to my diet, I'm all in on that.
@feelingjovani My OB had said at the beginning to try to keep the weight gain to 20lbs, but didn't give me a floor. I guess it just made me nervous not having a guideline on that end? But now I'm hearing that it's not super unusual to gain later, so that's helping too.
@runningoncookies That makes sense about the jeans! We dealt with IF so this might be our only shot, so I'm not planning in advance for any more pregnancies. But if I knew for sure that we'd be doing this again, I'd probably be spending more on maternity clothes
@feelingjovani I still haven't told daycare I'm pregnant because I'm scared of the cost! I'm pretty sure it'll be more than $500 based on what the pre-school room is currently. I know there's a sibling discount...it better be damn good!
And the pollen is currently insane here. It's been super windy this week, and the oak pollen "tumble weeds" are rolling down the street. It's so gross! I think it was this time last year that I ended up being tested for COVID because my allergies were so bad. I'm just barely going outside this year!
@marymh80 we unfortunately won't even get a sibling discount since our daycare is full through September 2022. But we looked at the Kindercare that basically across the street...you guys use them, don't you? I'm actually looking for a home daycare since we'll have to go to two different places but there's not a lot in our town and I don't want to travel too far because I'm hoping I'll be working part time from home.
@feelingjovani We do use Kindercare. We've been overall happy with them, though I think a lot depends on the director and their communication (we had a hiccup at the change of directors, but I think she's finally learned what we're hoping for and actually appreciates how involved parents are).
One downside is that they got rid of "reservation weeks" last year, so there's no break for vacations. But I'm so happy that we haven't had to deal with many shut downs - they're clear about the 8 or 9 holidays there are a year and closed once at the beginning of COVID and for 2 weeks when there was an outbreak. We really needed a corporate place because of the hours we needed to coordinate with our commutes. Anything home based was a much shorter day than would work for us.
