This is a place for FTMs to ask questions and S+TMs to share the wealth of knowledge they've accumulated on baby products. Each week we'll spotlight a new category of product to help streamline and make it easier to refer back. This week it's....Maternity Clothes! Since some of us are either already wearing a few pieces or will be soon it seems like I good time.

Please use the prompts below to try to share as much relevant info as you can in a format that is easy for those reading to absorb/respond to. If you'd like to recommend/ask questions about more than one product, please copy/paste the prompts as needed.ย ย

    • Any questions about it/them for S+TMs?: I saw someone on instagram link an outfit she had on from this website. I don't know if anyone has gotten clothes from here before but they seem SUPER cheap and cute, especially for maternity shoot dresses. I just don't know if its like a wish.com situation (iykyk)

  • My opinions on maternity clothes are as followed. Fitted is betterโ€ฆ Itโ€™s better to be obviously pregnant then โ€œcanโ€™t tell if youโ€™re just fatโ€. I wonโ€™t buy anything flowy (although I know some people do prefer that).ย

Cheap maternity clothes are cheap for a reason. I prefer every day brands like target, Old Navy etc. you can get good deals on them but the quality is still OK. I canโ€™t bring myself to spend a lot of money on anything maternity since we only wear it for such a short time.ย

Full panel on pants only. Itโ€™s so much more comfortable. Especially near the end.ย

  • Iโ€™m not going to use the format, because my best advice is FACEBOOK๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ MARKETPLACE ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ!

I already had stuff from my first pregnancy (Arlo was due Oct. 1, fetus is due Nov. 1), but decided to give marketplace a look and I have found TONS of super cute stuff for VERY little cost. Wins!
  • I remember with my last pregnancy my maternity clothes were so stretched out from wearing them twice at 9 months pregnant that they didnโ€™t fit for ages. So I ended up having to buy some more maternity things. Itโ€™s for that reason that Iโ€™m in favor of cheap maternity clothes. I have some really expensive, nice maternity clothes that Iโ€™ll be able to wear again when Iโ€™m 7-8 months along though ๐Ÿ˜‚

I agree with full panel pants 100%ย

Try to find maternity tops that double as nursing tops. Nursing hoodies are a fav of mine.

You can usually get good deals on Amazon.ย
  • Agree on the full panel pants. Other kinds get you through like the 2nd trimester and not worth it. I wear scrubs to work (maternity scrubs suck, so just get stretchy scrub pants in a bigger size and wear maternity t shirt), so I โ€œinvestedโ€ in one nice pair of pants and one nicer dress and everything else consisted of t shirts, leggings and flowy sweaters.ย

  • Yeah, I did/do exactly like @mkp0903
Full panel 100%. Mostly I live in very stretchy leggings and tunic tops when I'm pregnant, with a few "nicer" actual maternity outfits and a pair of maternity jeans. Also about a million nursing tanks/bras. My boobs get huge from the very beginning, and you can use them for a long time afterwards too.ย
  • I have extra large Greys anatomy impact scrubs, super stretchy and I also wore the pregnancy t-shirt to work with our fleece over it.

PinkBlush for dresses, I would wear them even not pregnant they are so pretty and comfortable. Found some cute finds on Zulily, target looks like it's upped it's Maternity clothes game.ย
  • What kind of โ€œlistโ€ should we aim for? Like, 1 dress, 2 pants, 4 tops, etcย

  • @jackie_dunny I think it depends on the number of kids and gap that you're planning. My son is going to be 2 at birth and we're planning on a similar gap for kid 3, so I do wish that I had bought more tops and dresses the first time around rather than struggling to get dressed every day haha.

This time around I'm getting a bunch of full panel leggings (I lived in them post partum) and tight, stretchy tops and nursing ones.ย

I only shop big sales, but loved target, old navy, Motherhood maternity, and pink blush (I wore several dresses post partum)
  • How do I figure out my size? I found someone on Facebook marketplace who is giving away loads of clothes for free. Sheโ€™s listed them as my current size but how does it work for maternity size? Iโ€™m not the skinniest but Iโ€™m not super huge either. Definitely not maternity size lol so Iโ€™m confused how my current size is classed as maternity lol did she just have a really tiny bump orrr?? Iโ€™m confused lolย

  • @jackie_dunny Usually your prepregnancy size, is still used for maternity clothes.ย ย
  • @jackie_dunny Just go by the size you have been prior to pregnancy ๐Ÿ™‚๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ
  • Favorite [maternity clothes/websites/stores]: H&MLink/picture: https://www2.hm.com/en_us/women/products/maternity-clothes.html?sort=stock&image-size=small&image=model&offset=0&page-size=216Cost (either actual dollar amount, or just $, $$, $$$, etc.): $What you like about clothing/stores: Maternity stuff I bought was true to their size chart. Their nursing tanks and T shirts were my favorite over other brands I tried although I went up a size for those so they wouldn't be so tight. Also their prices are pretty good, they have sales often, and their kid stuff is great too. What you don't like about them, if anything: Nothing I can think of at the moment. I guess I wish they had maternity pajamas!Additional thoughts on [maternity clothes]:
