TTGP and Covid Vaccine

Hi everyone,

I have been going back and forth on getting the Covid vaccine while TTGP. To complicate matters I am still nursing my little one from time to time so I am not sure what to do. I know there is the thinking that it can help transfer antibodies but I also feel we don't know enough about these vaccines so I really am not sure what to do. What are everyone's thoughts on this?

    I'm in the middle of IVF and have already gotten my first shot and will get my second sometime next week or so - I might have to reschedule because my second shot might coincide with an embryo transfer, because of course it would work out that way. Anyway, for me, the risks of getting Covid while pregnant outweigh the potential risks of the vaccine. The way I look it at is this: so many people have gotten the vaccine at this point, and so far I haven't heard of any real problems associated with the vaccine and pregnancy, so it's probably ok? My situation may even be more awkward because I need to get my second super soon after my transfer. I could've waited to transfer until later, but I'm impatient, haha. If I were you, I'd get it as soon as possible, so chances are pretty good that you'll be done with your vaccines by the time you get pregnant. For what it's worth, my doctor had zero concern about me being in the middle of my vaccination process during the IVF/transfer process.

    It's a valid, albeit possibly contentious one.




    I will just start off by saying it's a highly personal decision and everyone has their own unique situation of pros and cons to weigh out.

    I am personally not in a rush to get the vaccine, for various reasons, some of which I don't care to specify or elaborate on here.  But generally I am also living very low risk lifestyle, stay home much of the time, I don't work with the public etc. so I would rather let other people who feel they need it more get it ahead of me.</div>

    I got my second dose two weeks ago and am in my 3rd cycle TTGP, didn't bench ourselves. Personally, the research on the vaccine and on COVID was enough for me to get the shots because I'd rather not potentially contract COVID while pregnant, since research shows that COVID while pregnant significantly increases risk of severe illness, pre-term birth, and death; research also did not support claims that the vaccine increased miscarriage rates or difficulties conceiving. Research is supportive of antibodies showing up not only in breastmilk but also in newborns whose mothers received a vaccine while pregnant - not sure yet how much immunity it provides but certainly it's some. 


    ETA: my profession is in close contact with people who are unable to stay at home for a variety of reasons, many of whom have contracted COVID, and MH is high-risk. At the time I got my shots, he wasn't eligible for it but he has since gotten his first dose as well. 

    That said, I know this is a sensitive topic for many. It's your personal choice, and there are still unknowns as with any new vaccine or medical treatment. You just have to do what's right for you and your family.
