Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: an artichoke
Upcoming appointments: end of April US and midwife appts
How are you feeling?: better every day! Finally off of the nausea medication which feels soooo great. My belly is starting to feel heavy by the end of the day so I’m probably going to need to start using a pillow at night now to help give some support.
Rants/Raves: we booked our accommodations for Hawaii 2022!!! I will be crossing all of my fingers and toes that we can go by then.
Questions:
GTKY: What was a favourite toy of yours as a kid? I loooooved puzzles and books. Of all kinds. I was a cool kid 😎
@muggsd I STILL love puzzles. Don’t have as much time for books these days, I miss reading! And would love to do a big uninterrupted jigsaw puzzle
Estimated Due Date/Weeks + Days: 9/8, 18w5d.
Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: artichoke
Upcoming appointments: OB on Wednesday but I’m holding out for my AS the following Friday.
How are you feeling?: kinda crampy. Excited to feel movement? And everything is heavy and already bulging south.
Rants/Raves: same as usual, I’m sick of feeding myself
Questions: how many of your hospitals have NICUs? My new hospital is supposedly really bougie but no nicu. I’ve never needed baby to go to NICU but us still giving me pause. There are apparently nearby hospitals where they can transfer if needed. I’m going to ask my doc more on Wednesday.
GTKY: What was a favourite toy of yours as a kid?
I love games. Sorry!, skipbo, Yahtzee, memory, clue, Life. But it varied by age. Oh and my Nintendo ❤️❤️❤️
@agea I do too 😍 my Christmas present this year was a puzzle table and it’s awesome. I can sit on my couch in the evenings and puzzle at the perfect height. I would love to dive into one of those massive ones (18000 pieces or something) but who has the space?! Plus it would get destroyed by kids lol
@muggsd yay for the Hawaii trip and also for being off the nausea medication!! DH is still obsessed with puzzles as an adult, but they were never really my thing.
@agea my hospital has a NICU. I’m a worrier, so I would hate if I was going to deliver somewhere that didn’t have a “worst case scenario” option right there. But that may just be me!
Estimated Due Date/Weeks + Days: 18+2
Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: a sweet potato
Upcoming appointments: anatomy scan 2 weeks from today!
How are you feeling?: pretty good! I’ve been feeling less tired recently, and definitely starting to feel some sporadic movement the past couple of days. Baby really liked the dinner we had yesterday haha.
Rants/Raves: I was home all week last week for spring break and it was so nice!! I felt so refreshed. It didn’t really make going back to work today any easier, but it was so nice to just be home with DH and the cat.
Questions: nah
GTKY: What was a favourite toy of yours as a kid? I liked my barbies and American Girl dolls. And I had about a million stuffed animals haha. Also loved reading anything and everything.
@agea@runningoncookies same here with the worrying 🙋🏻♀️ I like to know that if anything happened we have what we need right there. That being said, I’d probably still be comfortable if I was in a hospital, knowing that they’d be able to transfer quick if needed. I think it’s all about your preference. Hopefully your chat with your doc will help make it an easier decision!
@muggsd Hawaii would be amazing!! It's on my list of places I desperately want to visit. I'll get there one days.
@agea My hospital has a NICU, but I only chose that one because it's the closest primarily English-speaking hospital to me (the actual closest one is mostly French) and I wanted to make sure I could get there fast if needed. The world-class children's hospital is a nice bonus though.
@runningoncookies I was also an avid reader when I was a kid. I lost the love of it during university, but got it back in the last couple of years. Hoping I'll still be able to read some after the baby comes.
Estimated Due Date/Weeks + Days: September 8, 18w5d
Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: a cucumber
Upcoming appointments: Eight days until my anatomy scan! Feels like it's been so long since my last ultrasound
How are you feeling?: I've been feeling quite a bit of pelvic pain recently, little worried what that means for me as we move along. I'm pretty sure I'm feeling movement now, and I think I actually got a kick yesterday.
Rants/Raves: Rant: My husband's second lockdown birthday is next weekend. I'm trying to make things special for him, but he's already guessed what his gift is (I haven't confirmed, but he keeps bringing it up) and guessed about the virtual games night, and is making guesses that are pretty close to the third thing I have planned, so... pretty sure he's going to know everything before his actual birthday. Rave: My office is giving out gift cards for Administrative Professional Day next week and I chose Old Navy for mine, so I can cute maternity tops! Everything is really getting tight on me now
Questions: Has anyone started a new job while pregnant? I have an interview tomorrow and am not sure how I feel about it yet. It doesn't affect my mat leave or anything (legally mandated in Canada), but I can't shake the guilt of starting a new job for a couple of months and then going on leave.
GTKY: What was a favourite toy of yours as a kid? I loved my Pooch Patrol! I had the black one with the fuzzy white ears and loved it to bits.
So update to my NICU question. My hospital may in fact have a NICU. A mom friend who lives in that town told me specifically they did not have a NICU and therefore would require transfer. But according to their website they have a great NICU. Like WTF. So going to ask my OB when I see her this week.
@sawasap I’ve been feeling pelvic pain too. Cramps and aches and pulling. Hoping it’s nothing.
@muggsd for real though, I didn’t even know 18k pc puzzles were a thing. That’s bananas. But also- My kids would destroy a puzzle of any size in 0.0 seconds.
@sawasap highly recommend Hawaii! I’ve been once before in high school for a basketball trip so I’m excited to go with my husband/girls and do a more “grownup” trip.
Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: Sugar Glider
Upcoming appointments: Just had my appointment with an endocrinologist today. She has no concerns about my thyroid or anything so no follow up needed there. I have my anatomy scan scheduled for April 23rd and my first appointment with my OB on May 14th as a video chat appointment(which I am not thrilled about).
How are you feeling?: I'm feeling pretty good. Still getting headaches a few times a weeks, hoping that tapers off. Other than that movement is becoming more frequent which I find reassuring and exciting.
Rants/Raves: Partially both. Since it doesn't seem like I will be having any in-person appointments anytime soon, which seems bonkers to me, I caved and ordered a fetal doppler. My husband and son aren't allowed to come to any ultrasounds or appointments so I thought it could be a nice way for us all to hear the baby and make it feel more real.
With my first pregnancy I was going in once a month from 12 weeks to test my urine, monitor my weight, measure my belly, check my blood pressure and listen to the heartbeat but because of covid none of that is important anymore?
Questions: natm
GTKY: What was a favourite toy of yours as a kid? Lite Brite. Although I truly did spend most of my time outside at the playground, riding my bike or climbing trees.
@agea My googling tells me relaxin is the likely culprit for my pelvic pain, based on how it feels and where it is. I'm going to bring it up with my OB next week just in case, but I'm not concerned.
Lurking from the other board.... @deziraywatt what doppler did you buy? I looked at a few listings for them on Amazon and the listings look weird to me, like shady/fake?
@deziraywatt oh wow that’s weird! Does it switch to in person later in pregnancy? My midwife told me they dialed back the in person appts earlier in pregnancy but then switch back to in person appts later on.
Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the
size of: a hedgehog! Or as DD would say, a “hedgie-hug”
Upcoming appointments: Just had my
anatomy scan and all was well! Another month til my next appointment.
How are you feeling?: Allergies are
seriously kicking my ass and my back is already killing me. This baby is VERY
comfortable sitting as low as humanly possible (they had to tilt my table
upside down during my US to get baby off my cervix because they would not
BUDGE) so that might explain why the 3rd tri back issues are
starting so early.
Rants/Raves: J&J vaccine distribution
has been put on hold in the USA due to some pretty serious complications in a
small number of recipients. I’m concerned what this will mean for our response
as a world…
GTKY: What was a favourite toy of yours as a kid? Ok do
you remember Skip It? The little ankle thing with a ball on the end? I was
weirdly obsessed lmao. Not my favorite toy, but this question made me think
about that dumb toy for some reason lol
@muggsd YAY for being off the nausea medicine!!!!! I hope
the Hawaii trip works out next year!
@agea YES on the Nintendo!!! Kids these days have no idea what
they are missing out on. @runningoncookies I’m so glad you got a Spring Break to stay home with the
family (and a little jealous too – we skipped over Spring Break and only gave
our students one day this semester which has been exhausting on everyone)
@sawasap Now is definitely a great time for a wardrobe swap –
so glad you get that gift card to help out!! As for the maternity leave, I
started a job right after I found I was pregnant with DD1. I told them as soon
as they gave me the offer. My then-supervisor told me “Don’t ever feel guilty
or ashamed of being both a mother and an employee” – that helped a lot. You
have a bunch of support from me if you need to vent the guilt out so you can let
it go because you deserve the opportunity to be BOTH.
@deziraywatt I absolutely agree that the infrequency of
appointments right now is highly frustrating and honestly – confusing. I’m
surprised they wouldn’t let your husband in with you for the US – that really
sucks. I am so sorry! Glad you got the fetal doppler so you could include your
family in the experience.
@agea, there's different "levels" of NICUs...so maybe that's what your friend was talking about? Maybe it's not the highest level so there's still a chance of transfer?
My old OBs used a smaller hospital and that was sort of appealing to me at the time. But when I switched to my current doctor (after previous complications), I was happy he's part of the larger hospital. They'd JUST finished the new women's wing a year or so before my son was born. And it's attached to an amazing children's hospital and NICU. But I'm also in a pretty metropolitan area, so I know it's quite a luxury to have those kinds of choices. Where I grew up, there's one hospital and you're transferred 2-3 hours away for anything serious.
@sawasap My SPD has come back full force recently! Saturday I walked around target for a bit hoping walking would loosen it up and I think I did too much. Sunday I took it easy and did too little. I'm so mad to be this sore so early! I feel like I did last pregnancy around like 30 weeks, and I'm not even 20 yet.
I was looking for jobs FULL FORCE before this pregnancy, but took a pause to let the baby news sink in. A few things have come up recently that look interesting, but I'm not sure if I could put my whole energy behind it right now. Especially knowing that I have at least some maternity leave with the job I have now. We JUST got paid maternity leave (I had to use vacation and sick leave for my son), so I hate to walk away when I feel like I'm "owed" that 8 weeks and then some!
Estimated Due Date/Weeks + Days: 18w, 6d
Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: Sugar Glider
Upcoming appointments: Anatomy scan 4-23
How are you feeling?: Achy and old and tired, but otherwise good.
Rants/Raves: I went to trader joe's this weekend for their GF cinnamon raisin bread to make toast. It did not disappoint.
Questions:
GTKY: What was a favourite toy of yours as a kid? I liked any sort of building toy (blocks, legos, etc) and reading. I was mostly a loner, being the third child, until my sister got annoying and my brother preferred to play with me.
@agea I agree with @marymh80 maybe your friend was talking about the level of NICU? It was really important to me to be at a hospital where my baby or I wouldn't be transferred. I actually drive an hour to my dr and the hospital for that reason. I would also ask your dr about the level of care for the mother in case of an emergency situation. My SIL had a very scary birth experience, the hospital she was at had to wait for a dr to be pulled out ER to do a blood transfusion. I don't want to make you nervous. Maybe look up some local mom groups if you can and see what the hospital experience was like for them?
Estimated Due Date/Weeks + Days:18ish weeks ( I'm not keeping close track, I found it was making me anxious)
Upcoming appointments: Anatomy scan 4-28
How are you feeling?: blah, large lol I can't wear any of my usual clothes which is really weird for me bc I tend to wear looser fitting stuff. I had to go on a target haul to but some dresses and pants for work.
Rants/Raves:I booked a weekend away for DH and myself for our anniversary in May. it will be the first time my mom has kept out daughter a whole week and lets just say that grandma is super excited!
Questions:
GTKY: What was a favourite toy of yours as a kid? toy horses and American girl dolls.
@kissyfir1586 I ended up ordering from this site. The reviews all looked pretty good. It should be here today so I can update with how well it worked out.
@kissyfir1586 My friend lent me a doppler from the same site @deziraywatt bought from and it works well for me. The only thing I'll caution you both about is that the heartbeat indicator doesn't always seem to work properly so I wouldn't necessarily trust the number that shows up. I've had times where I've heard the heartbeat clearly but the doppler doesn't show a number at all.
@deziraywatt awesome! Let me know how your test run goes with it.
@sawasap ok, good to know! I think I'm in that weird in between spot where I'm not feeling a lot of movement yet, so even just hearing the heartbeat would be reassuring.
Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: a gameboy
Upcoming appointments: anatomy scan Friday!
How are you feeling?: Tired and annoyed that I'm not fitting into anything but leggings
Rants/Raves: I've been awful about posting and ghosting so I'm trying to get better at coming back.
Questions: has anyone ordered from Pat Pat? I've seen some cute things but I'm wondering how good the stuff actually is.
GTKY: What was a favourite toy of yours as a kid? I was very into American Girl dolls. I had a birthday party for Samantha that I insisted had to have petit fours that my mom had to get at a special bakery.
@agea my hospital has a special care nursery which is similar to a lower level nicu but if the case is serious I'd need to go into Boston for a high level nicu. I delivered my son there and felt fine because if needed we could transfer and be there in about 20 mins, maybe less depending on traffic.
@muggsd I'm so jealous you have a Hawaii trip booked! That was one of our locations we were choosing between for our honeymoon and decided on a different destination but it's still on my list!
bluebell08 I'm with you on feeling large and in charge! I'm mostly working from home but when I do need to go in the office I can't wear my usual leggings.
@sawasap gahh that would drive me nuts if DH guessed all his surprises!! I mean at least you know he wants them haha!
@deziraywatt oh man if I had no in-person appointments I definitely would’ve gotten a doppler too. So stressful! I’ve been going in every 4 weeks, but DH can’t come which is really hard for him. He gets to come to the anatomy scan which we are both psyched about.
@JustAnotherUsername16 haha I immediately thought of my skip-it too. I loved that thing!
@bluebell08 so exciting for a weekend away! DH and I booked a weekend trip for a baby moon the middle of June and I cannot wait. I miss traveling so much!
@feelingjovani I also fit into nothing that isn’t leggings, and can’t wait until I find some maternity jeans that I don’t hate. It’s hard!
Got my doppler today spent about 10 minutes fiddling with it when I got home from work. Like @sawasap said the heart rate monitor part of it is a little finicky but I for sure heard the babies little heart beating away in there. I bounced back an forth between the baby and my own heart to make sure I wasn't just picking up my own heartbeat. I'm so excited to have this little tool for reassurance between visits especially since movement isn't very consistent yet.
I spoke to my doc about NICU and they have a level 3 which I am satisfied with. She said if they found anything that alarming in utero I’d be moved to a different practice/hospital for delivery anyway but that level 3s can handle most needs (but not like needing cardiac surgery within the first twenty minutes of life and that these arising as surprises are exceedingly rare) I don’t even know the level of my previous hospital so I’m ok with this.
@runningoncookies I thought I'd be cheap and order some maternity jeans and leggings from Walmart and of course they look horrible and were all weirdly too big in the ankles so now I'm on the hunt for others. My jeans from DS are just a bit too tight in the legs since I'm up at least a size from when I had him. I didn't want to spend a ton on jeans being pregnant in the summer but looks like I'll be looking at pinkblush or something.
@runningoncookies My best luck for maternity pants was my local Buy Nothing group on Facebook. See if you've got one of those around you? I got 6 pairs of nice, comfortable maternity pants in good condition. I really don't like the idea of spending tons on clothes that I'll only wear for 6 months (or less, since I don't expect pants to be a huge part of my wardrobe in July), so Buy Nothing has been great for me.
@feelingjovani motherhood is currently 60% off. I got one pair of black pants and one pair of jeans from them. I figure going to the office twice a week, I NEED at least one pair of work pants I'm comfortable and feel decent in. If I end up needing more pants, I might go a bit cheaper. But if I'm wearing them twice a week every week for 6 months, it's worth the $30 or $40!
marymh80 I'm going to take a look! I could definitely use at least a pair of jeans but I'm hoping to live in dresses once it's warmer...but on the down side I'll need to keep up with shaving my legs which I'm horrible at.
@feelingjovani Same! I was on a good routine when I was going to the OB routinely. But once I didn't need to take off my pants anymore, all bets were off 🤣
I have drawstring capris I got last summer that I'm hoping will still work this summer for when I'm at home. Otherwise, I'll keep living in lounge pants.
Speaking of dresses, these are SUPER comfy for wearing under dresses. They're not at all constrictive like spanx, but perfect for preventing chafing.
@sawasap ohh that’s a great idea!! I’m actually a part of my towns but nothing group, I’ll have to ask in there.
@feelingjovani I ordered a pair from pink blush the other day when they were having a sale, and they’re too big ugh. I’m going to try to exchange them for a smaller size. They were super soft so that was promising!
marymh80 oh I have the regular slip shorts but didn't know they have maternity ones! I'm definitely getting a pair, I think the regular will fit since they're super stretchy but these will probably be more comfortable.
@runningoncookies good to know they run big. I think I'm going to buy the only pair I've seen that aren't styled as ripped jeans.
