April Questions

I didn't see a discussion for questions on the board for the month, so here it is.

Questions that are pregnancy-related, kid-related, or neither are welcome :)

For those of y'all who just started jobs (in the states) and haven't been with your workplace for a year, how are y'all gonna do leave for the birth of your child? Does anyone have previous experience with this? Do employers typically keep the staff member or let them go if they don't have FMLA protection?

  • @sliztee I am not new at my job but have had staff who get pregnant in their first year and won't be covered by FMLA. Unfortunately often they end up having to resign because they are only allowed to take whatever PTO they have accrued plus 3 weeks of leave without pay (that is how many weeks our company allows in the first year). Some do come back after maternity leave and are welcomed back quickly if their history of work was good prior to needing the leave.

  • @KNB1027 thanks for your answer! It’s good to know that sometimes it’s unavoidable and the employer has to make the cut, even if they don’t want to.
